USDA Will Tighten Requirements for SNAP; Some States Are Suing Jan 27, 2020
    Show notes

A new Trump administration rule change, set to go into effect in April, will result in nearly 700,000 people across the country being dropped from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), commonly known as “food stamps.”

In December 2019, the Trump administration said it would limit states’ ability to issue eligibility waivers to single able-bodied adults between the ages of 18 and 49.

A January 26 New York Times report noted that the Trump administration sees record low unemployment and steady economic growth as making this an opportune time to nudge people off the SNAP federal assistance program.

Does New Hillary Clinton Docuseries Portend 2020 Run? Jan 27, 2020
    Show notes

The new Hulu docuseries about Hillary Clinton and the 2016 presidential campaign — entitled Hillary — premiered on Saturday at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. Unsurprisingly, the four-part series, which is set to be released to the public on March 6, is said to be a non-critical look at Clinton and the events surrounding the 2016 presidential election.

Backdoor Attack on Second Amendment Through Credit Card Transactions Jan 27, 2020
    Show notes

Representative Jennifer Wexton (D-Va.) has devised another way to attack the rights of law-abiding gun owners: tracking their purchases of firearms using credit cards.

The core of her bill (H.R. 5132, the Gun Violence Prevention Through Financial Intelligence Act) seems, on the surface, innocuous enough:

To request information for financial institutions for the purpose of developing an advisory about the identification and reporting of suspicious activity … relating to how homegrown violent extremists and perpetrators of domestic terrorism procure firearms … for the purpose of carrying out “lone actor” or “lone wolf” acts of terror within the United States.

Impeachment? What Impeachment? Voters Are Tuning Out Jan 27, 2020
    Show notes

Voters are tuning out of the Trump impeachment trial in droves. After two days of watching the Democrats bash the president, viewership of the six major networks covering it dropped by 20 percent. When the Associated Press asked voters why, they said they’re bored and tired of “the whole partisan saga.”

Most of them made up their minds months ago, said Eric Kasper, director of the Center for Constitutional Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire: “A lot of people have made up their minds, and it looks pretty clear what the outcome of this trial is going to be.”

UK Crosses Brexit “Finish Line” With Announcement of Royal Assent Jan 24, 2020
    Show notes

The United Kingdom is now officially set to leave the European Union on January 31 at 23:00 GMT. With the announcement of Royal Assent on Thursday, the withdrawal agreement championed by Prime Minister Boris Johnson officially became law.

Deputy Speaker Nigel Evans had the honor of making the announcement to a nearly empty House of Commons: “I have to announce in the House in accordance with the Royal Assent Act 1967 that her majesty has signified her Royal Assent to the following act: European Union (Withdrawal Agreement) Act 2020.”

A similar statement was issued by Representative Democrat Pramila Jayapal, who pointed to the need for stronger gun control.

LA Backs Down, Repeals Law Requiring Companies to Disclose NRA Ties Jan 24, 2020
    Show notes

The Los Angeles City Council repealed a law that required companies competing for city contracts to disclose ties to the National Rifle Association.

The vote to repeal was a unanimous 12-0 on Tuesday and came after a federal court judge blocked the legislation from being enforced. The city council had passed the resolution following a shooting at a Thousand Oaks bar in 2018 that left 13 dead.

Gucci-coo: Men’s High Fashion Becomes Juvenile, Feminized “Woke” Joke Jan 24, 2020
    Show notes

High fashion used to be about battling bad taste, not trumping testosterone. But this has changed further with fashion leader Gucci’s 2020 men’s clothing line, whose goal is to battle “patriarchy” and “macho virility” while advancing a “childhood theme” that some view as uncomfortably pedophilic.

Paper magazine reports that it was five years ago that Gucci’s then-new creative director Alessandro Michele created a fashion line ushering in “a new era of gender fluidity and romanticism.” Now he has gone where no woke, low-T soy boy designer has gone before, with clothing that purportedly captures the “purity of childhood, back when carefree days weren’t tainted by societal norms, particularly those relating to masculine ideals,” Paper tells us.

Coronavirus II? Scientists Find 28 UNKNOWN Viruses in Chinese Glacier; Melt Could Unleash Them Jan 24, 2020
    Show notes

China is one of the world’s oldest civilizations. But recently discovered viruses locked in its Guliya ice cap on the northwestern Tibetan Plateau are far older than the Middle Kingdom is, dating back 15 millennia. Of course, while scientists are rightly curious about these ancient and unknown quantities, they’re also concerned — about what could happen if these viruses are unleashed by an ice melt-off.

The discovery was made via recent examinations of two ice cores, approximately 520 and 15,000 years old respectively, taken from the glacier in 1992 and 2015. The analysis “revealed 33 viral populations,” wrote the authors — 28 of which are unknown

Poll Shocker: Bernie Leads Biden and Field NATIONALLY Jan 23, 2020
    Show notes

The Sanders Surge that saw the Vermont senator’s stock rise in Iowa has continued, with a new poll showing the socialist presidential contender leading all his rivals nationally — including longtime front-runner Joe Biden.

The poll, conducted by SSRS for CNN, has independent Bernie Sanders ahead of the ex-vice president by three points.
