The internet is an amazing place where you can access just about anything you want at a moment's notice! However, the comics industry has been slow to catch up to streaming culture like Netflix and Hulu.

Sure, you can buy digital comics individually, but that's like buying single episodes of a tv show on iTunes when you can just stream them for free on Hulu the next day or on Netflix in a few months. That business model is making less and less sense as the years pass.

So is it time that we get a Hulu-style comic service where we can read unlimited new comics for a small fee each month? How would that even work? We talk about all this and MUCH more on today's podcast!

59: How Deadpool Will Save Comic Book Movies Sep 21, 2015

An up-and-coming director named Steven Spielberg remarked that comic book superhero movies will go the way the of the western, implying that their day in the sun is all but over. Meanwhile, an equally little-known director named Zack Snyder disagreed, saying that characters like Batman and Superman are Shakespearian and will be in popular culture indefinitely in one form or another.

We're not filmmakers, but we're still going to try and discuss this topic as if we know exactly how Hollywood works. Specifically, we're going to talk about how the Deadpool movie might be so different that it will successfully push superhero movies into a new era. An era where we don't have to have incredibly formulaic and predictable comic book movies. But that's only if the movie makes money...

58: Do Comic Book Movies Need Origin Stories? Sep 14, 2015

Comic book movies all seem to expect a franchise to be made from them. Because of that, they tend to make the first movie an origin story of the superhero in question. But should they?

Should comic book movies instead just focus on telling a good story in a world where the hero is already established and not feel the need to force feed the audience a character's comprehensive backstory? Or should they make sure that everyone is on the same page by spending lots of time on the origin to make sure nothing is left in question?

48: Why Do We Want Superheroes to Fight Each Other? Jun 29, 2015

It's pretty standard fare when we see superheroes beating up villains in comics or movies, but we're starting to see a bit more of heroes vs other heroes. We want to know why is that?

Today, we're discussing the reasons why we think we want to see Captain America take on Iron Man in Civil War, or Batman versus Superman in some other movie whose name I can't remember.

Is it because we like to see the script flipped around so that there's more uncertainty in who will win? Is it because we like to watch our favorite heroes be pushed to the absolute edge? Or is it simply because we like to watch conflict between two parties who we understand well, and heroes are just the only ones who get a lot of character development?

Comic books are full of superheroes will extraordinary powers, but there is also the power of simply being a comic book character. There are endless tropes and clichés in the world of comics, and we're bringing them into the real world!

Things like splash pages that tell you when something important is happening, having perfect photographic recall of past events in a third person perspective, and, of course, the famous comic book retcon. And even just little stuff like people having alliterative names, or having amazing costume repair skills.

There are many powers that every comic book character has without even needing to be bitten by a radioactive spider or exposed to gamma rays. We're breaking it all down on this week's NerdSync Podcast!

43: What If? (feat. Mr. Sunday) May 25, 2015

We're creating our own 'What If' and 'Elseworlds' stories about our favorite comic book characters! These are basically just stories that we made up that we think would be awesome, but would probably never happen since they would change up characters and entire worlds too much. But hey, it's fiction. Anything can happen!

We've got an interesting Superman story involving his permanent death as the world's greatest hero, and another about the idea of him never making it off of Krypton in the first place. We've also got some fun Spider-Man stories about the radioactive spider that bit him as well as the idea of him becoming a super villain. And, of course, we've got some fantastic and dark Batman stories that dive into his psyche and his ability to kill everyone if he wanted to!

All this wouldn't be complete without a wonderful guest, so of course we're welcoming back one of our favorites, Mr. Sunday! He's the man behind the Mr. Sunday Movies YouTube channel and one of the hosts of the very popular podcast, The Weekly Planet.

The latest film by Marvel Studios is the much hyped Avengers: Age of Ultron! With the 2012 Avengers film breaking records and being almost universally loved, how will the sequel stack up? Well let's freaking talk about it!

We've assembled our own team of Avengers from around the YouTubes comprised of Ricky from Stewdippin and Chris from Csandreas to help us break down this movie. We'll give you the stuff we absolutely loved, the stuff we think could have been improved upon, and everything in between on this Giant Size episode of the NerdSync Podcast!

We're talking about the amazing action from the opening sequence, the end battle, and of course the Hulkbuster fight. We also discuss the much needed character development for Hawkeye, Hulk, and Black Widow. And naturally we have to talk about the villain of the movie, Ultron himself, and the whimsical yet still terrifying demeanor he has throughout the film.

Plus we're also touching on how this movie sets up for future installments in the Marvel Cinematic universe like Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther, Thor: Ragnarok, and Avengers: Infinity War. 34: Is DC "Edgier" than Marvel? Mar 16, 2015

Warner Bros. CEO said that their films will be "edgier" than Marvel's movies. SHOTS FIRED! Eh, not really, but it does raise a question about what DC plans to do with their movies that would make them stand out from the hugely successful Marvel films. Are Warner Bros. and DC just planning on making their movies darker and more brutal, or do they have a bigger trick up their sleeve?

We're also talking about the recent news that Batman: Arkham Knight received an M for Mature rating, signaling that the game will have a much more gruesome tone than the previous installments. With scenes depicting torture and killing innocent people, do you think this game will will take things too far, or is this perfectly appropriate for the world of the Dark Knight?

If you haven't heard the news yet, Sony and Marvel Studios have stuck a deal that will allow them to share Spider-Man in upcoming films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe! It also means that Sony will be getting some help from Marvel Studios regarding new solo Spidey films. 28: Justice League: Throne of Atlantis Review and Discussion Feb 02, 2015

Justice League: Throne of Atlantis is DC's latest animated film, and it centers around New 52 Aquaman. Naturally, we HAVE to talk about it! The movie retells Aquaman's origin in this new movie universe as well as adapting the Throne of Atlantis story arc from the comics. Did we love it? Did we hate it? It was definitely one of those answers, or probably some other one.

SPOILER WARNING for the entire movie! I forgot to mention that at the beginning of the podcast, but I hope you understand that we can't talk for an hour about a movie without giving away all the spoilers.

Marvel released the much awaited Ant-Man trailer as well as a second trailer to Avengers: Age of Ultron, so naturally we're going to talk about them! We're discussing the odd tone and lackluster quality of the Ant-Man trailer, and the possibility of a Hank Pym Marvel One-Shot.

Also, we make predictions and talk about theories surrounding the plot of Age of Ultron and the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward. We were all very tired when this was recorded as well, so forgive us for that.

We are back from our overly-long break to bring you exciting and 100% true predictions of things that are definitely going to happen in the realm of comic book movies and tv shows in 2015! Mostly though, we're just here to talk to you about the things we're excited about this year. We're talking about Batman: Arkham Knight, Ant-Man, Age of Ultron, a Batman Very Superman trailer, and that Fantastic Four reboot that we all know is going to be the greatest movie mankind has ever and could ever possibly produce.

We've also got a ton more stuff we're talking about, but be warned of SPOILERS regarding the Walking Dead mid-season finale and pretty much all of Agents of SHIELD, plus some little stuff revolving around Arrow and Flash as well. That was just a ton of keywords I definitely didn't throw in for SEO purposes...

Bryce quizzes us about old comic book and superhero movies that show how young and naive we really are. Chris mixes his love of sitcoms with comics in his quiz about actors who have played characters in both. And Scott ironically goes last with his quiz about being FIRST!

22: Superhero Movies Not Based on Comic Books Nov 24, 2014

Superhero movies don't just come from comic books. Today, we're discussing our favorite non-comic superhero films that range from amazingly good to just plain weird. Chris hits us with some unconventional superhero movies from his childhood like Medallion, Drive, and Unbreakable. Scott sticks pretty closely to the classic tights and capes model with The Incredibles, Super, and Sky High. Meanwhile, Bryce talks about Kazaam and Warriors of Virtue, two movies that completely baffle us.

What a great time to be alive for comic book fans! Marvel just announced their film slate for Phase 3 of their cinematic universe, and we could not be more excited! Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Inhumans, and, to top it all off, Avengers: Infinity War Parts 1 and 2!!!

With all this exciting news, we need some help to break it all down. And who better for that than the wonderful Chris Sanders!

The Age of Ultron Trailer came out, and words cannot express how perfect it is!!! Scott, Chris, and Bryce talk about their favorite parts of the trailer of the upcoming Marvel movie and try to dissect the plot of the film. We're also talking about the now confirmed Civil War movie that will happen in the third Captain America movie. And there's a pretty heated debate about which side the NerdSync gang is on: Pro-registration or anti-registration!
