Just a quick note to say how much I enjoy your SwitchCraft podcast. I've not been able to leave a review, my podcast service does not do reviews.
I really like your more mature non bias approach to Nintendo related stuff. You are not afraid to point out when something is bad with Nintendo.
A couple of quick questions about Splatoon 2.
I really enjoyed the splat fests, but I hate giving my T shirt back, do you think it would be good to keep them ? the rest of the game gives out new clothing all over the place, yet takes your splat fests T back as soon as the event is over. It would be nice in a couple of years to go over the collection just to see what splat fests you had taken part in.
Do you think they will ever add offline play for the multi player modes ? I.E play turf war with bots ? I play MK8D battle mode with bots all the time, and it's not too bad.
Please keep up the good work.
Karl. (UK based 40 year old gamer)

        • I found this show through the Switchcast after E3 and haven’t missed an episode since. Keeping up with Switch news is tough but this show fixes that by putting out frequent episodes and keeping them around 30 minutes each. The classic Nintendo sound effects are great too. Bonus points for RJS being transparent and open as a host. Podcasting solo isn’t easy and he does it with easy. If you’re a Nintendo fan, you should be listening, end of story.

      • Jon sent in an email

        • Hey hey!
So my buddy came over this weekend for splat fest and we were chit chatting about Splatoon stuff. One of the conversations was about Salmon Run and playing it locally. We both love Salmon Run, and I love how you can get different things for playing Salmon Run (special shirts, hats etc.). My friend said "I wonder how and if the Salmon Run is different if you just play locally instead of playing online". Now the online Salmon Run, as we all know, is at certain times/days. Whereas the local Salmon Run you can do whenever. I just said, without really thinking, "It's probably the same thing, but I doubt you get rewards for playing it". He quickly came back with (snobby voice) "Why would anyone play Salmon Run if you don't get anything for it?"
(I should also add that I really don't know how Salmon Run is different from online to local play; I didn't try it, but that’s not the point)
This brings me to the main point of this email.
I feel like we're getting more into this routine where online multiplayer games need to give you some sort of "rewards" for playing the game. I don't play many online competitive games, but thinking of games like Call of Duty or something, you level up your account, level up your weapons, etc. The game is always giving you something the more you play. You can unlock different mods for weapons, different gear or abilities. It's tough for me to think of an online multiplayer game that doesn't have a system like this. How important is it for new games to give you "something" the more you play?
Would Salmon Run be as fun if there were no rewards for it? Are we moving into a new time where we don't just play games for "fun" anymore? Do we need something to make all our work feel like it's worth it?
I'm curious to see where games go from here. I think it would be difficult for a new game to come out without some sort of level up system and unlockables. However, the main point of any game is to have fun and enjoy the time you invest into that game. When he said why would anyone play Salmon Run if you don't get anything for it, I wanted to slap him and say "Because it's fun!!!".
Anyway, this sounded way better in my head. I hope you get the main point I'm going for. I'd love to hear your take on this.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and thank your for all the entertainment.
          -Jon/Link31254

        • At the release of the Nintendo Switch speculation was abound that the 3DS would be coming to an end. While I believe that support will continue for some time, I do believe the architecture will be outdated before long. With that said, the Switch, being a hybrid console seems to be the potential filler for the handheld gap that the 3DS would leave. I find it hard to believe that Nintendo would completely walk away from the handheld market with their considerable market share and little competition.
          · Do you think that Nintendo will ever return to a solid state home console, or will future iterations have the same aesthetics as the Switch?
          · If the Switch is the successor/replacement to the 3DS in the handheld market - How will Nintendo be able to return to the home console market and how do you think it would be received
They have stated in the past that the Nintendo Switch has been a journey. A long time in the works on behalf of Nintendo even stating the GameCube handle being part of this journey. I feel like going from the Switch to a stationary box would be a step backwards in innovation through technological limitation may continue to widen the programming gap for companies that develop on multiple platforms. It is hard to say what the future holds. I for one only play in handheld mode for various reasons (including TV time lol) and never want to be stuck tied to a television again!
Love the show! Thank you for doing what you do!
          Thank you,

        • Hi there,
I am one of your new Patron supporters and love the work you do. I learned of you while you were on the SwitchCast with KC. I don't always have time to listen to long weekly podcasts so I like how you do shorter episodes with more throughout the week.
I hear that you enjoy the motion controls on Splatoon 2. I have been playing Splatoon since release day of the original on Wii U. One of my favorite games, but I've been stubborn on learning motion controls. I feel like I can't get any better unless I switch to motion controls. People have given me tips on the proper use of them, but I feel like I still use the right stick too often.
Do you have any tips on getting used to motion controls and what is the proper way to use them? Like should I be touching the right stick at all or seldom and how often should I be resetting the camera? I feel like I need to see someone play in motion controls to really grasp it.
Thanks and keep up the good work,
          Trevor
