Today on The Natural Birth Podcast we have Emily
Emily is a 37 year old first time mama from Maine USA.
She believes in the power of our bodies innate intelligence and taking responsibility for how we show up.
Emily spent nearly two decades working within the western medical system as a Registered Nurse and perfected the art of advocating for patients rights. She fought fiercely for her patients to have informed consent and deeply respect all informed choices.
Maine was one of the strictest states during the covid pandemic with vaccine and mask mandates. She started a coalition for healthcare workers against medical mandates with over 4,000 members and let her job go, along with many others, when the Covid vaccine was mandated for all healthcare workers.
She fell pregnant just a few months after that and found a midwife through the medical freedom community.
Personal autonomy and bodily integrity are integral parts of who Emily is and how she leads her life, leading to a natural and empowering birth.
Her hearts desire was to catch her own baby in the safety of her home and so she did!

Today on The Natural Birth Podcast we have Amy.
Amy is a mama of one from a small town in Washington state.
She enjoys cooking, gardening, hiking, and spending time in the natural landscape around her small town.
When she was newly pregnant, the thought about birth terrified her.
But with each conversation with women in her community who’d had a positive birth experience as well as listening to the natural birth podcast she gained confidence and went into her home birth with such positive momentum.
Through her pregnancy and natural birth she has come to view childbirth as a powerful right of passage with invaluable lessons to learn.
Like surrendering to the fact that her home birth turned into birth center birth as her midwife was tied up with another birthing woman when Amy went into labour.
In this episode Amy shares about her midwife discovering an anterior cervical lip when doing a vaginal examination, and after having maybe 4 or 5 interviews of late where women share about their midwife’s finding an anterior lip and telling them to not push or that they should try to push the lip over the baby’s head while the woman has a contraction, I decided to speak to this and challenge it, as you will hear in our interview.

Danielle is a mother of 2 from Utah.
She’s a hair stylist and have a strong passion for health and nutrition with conscious living. She enjoys nature and has a strong connection to mother earth and is a mama in our Maiden, Mother & Maga Village.
Her first labour and birth was in a hospital and even though she wanted a natural birth, the interventions in the hospital made that impossible. And we do touch upon this medicalized birth to bring awareness to these interventions. After this interview I wrote a blog post about all the routine labour and birth procedures stating all the benefits, risks and alternatives for your information so that you can be informed before going into hospital for your birth.

But today we are going to chat about Tillys very interesting birth stories.
Tilly had her first as a young 22 year old studying to become a OBGYN. But after witnessing the over medicalization of birth she decided to have a free birth at home with her partner. She had a very empowering and precipitous birth at home in the dark.
When she feel pregnant with her second she was planning a home birth with a midwife to have some female support at the birth altar.
But at 34 weeks she ended up breaking her waters prematurely.
She stayed home for 24hrs to see if labour would start naturally and then decided to go into hospital where she naturally induced herself with nipple stimulation through a breast pump.
She then birthed her own way on all fours on the floor and stayed at the hospital doing kangaroo care for 10 days with her new born.
All on her own terms.

Marique is a mama of two from New Zealand.
She is an Integrative Health Practitioner who helps women prioritize their health so they have more energy, less stress and a body they love, by addressing the root cause of their symptoms.
Being passionate about natural health, Marique knew she wanted to have a natural birth with her first and almost did, except for accepting the offer of, what her OB called a ”homeopathic dose” of synthetic oxytocin to speed up labour.
Her hospital birth with her OB was a positive experience but Marique knew she wanted a fully natural birth the second time she fell pregnant so she decided on employing a midwife.
Little did she know labour and birth would go so quick that her husband ended up catching their baby with the midwife on speaker phone.

Today on The Natural Birth Podcast we have Dawn
Dawn is a mama of 2 from Ohio.
She’s also a certified registered nurse anesthetist and even though she wanted a natural birth with her first, she didn’t want to be a difficult patient and ended up with an unnecessary induction and C/S with her OBGYN.
When she fell pregnant again, she began her care with another OBGYN that was positive about vaginal birth after caesarian, but at 28 weeks she opted out and chose private midwifery care to be able to have a home birth and the birth she truly wanted.
And at 40 weeks and 3 days she went into labour and labored at home with her supportive VBAC team and husband.
After about 7 hours of labour at home she birthed her baby by herself, lifting her own daughter up to her chest and saying over and over again ”I did it, and it’s so safe”.
Both her and her husband got their redemptive birth and it’s such a pleasure having her on to tell her story.

Taylor is a 25 year old mama from the US, who was told by her doctor at 23 years of age that she might not be able to fall pregnant due to endometriosis.
However after getting off her contraceptives that she was on due to the endometriosis, she fell pregnant in 2 months time.
She is a medical assistant and started her pregnancy working at a medical office thinking she’d birth at the hospital.
And then she did a 180. She quit her job and started working at a naturopathic office and birth center at 7 months pregnant.
This is also the birth center she ended up having her empowering birth at.
She now want’s to tell her story to empower other young women to experience how amazing birth can be and to embrace how incredible our bodies truly are.
