    The Movie Crypt

Filmmakers Adam Green (FROZEN, the HATCHET franchise), Joe Lynch (MAYHEM, EVERLY), and Arwen the Yorkie host this inspirational and educational program that offers a fully comprehensive look at the entertainment industry, the artistic process, and the enduring struggle of not giving up on your dreams. By candidly sharing their own trials and tribulations in Hollywood, Adam and Joe create an extremely honest and heartfelt dialogue with their guests. The hilarious, heartbreaking, and therapeutic “artist on artist” conversations focus on each guest’s individual journey and the various hurdles they have personally faced and conquered along the way. With guests ranging from Academy Award winners, entertainment icons, and A-list celebrities… to cinematographers, editors, studio executives, and countless other crucial positions not typically featured in the spotlight, an average episode of THE MOVIE CRYPT offers more insight for navigating the entertainment industry than an entire semester of film school. Hailed by Entertainment Weekly magazine as “one of the top 20 podcasts you should be listening to” [Issue #1345], a new episode of THE MOVIE CRYPT has been released every single Monday without fail since the day the podcast launched on May 6, 2013.

This is an independent podcast that only exists thanks to the support of listeners. To get the FULL version of every new episode without ads every Monday morning simply subscribe to our Patreon for just $1 a month! Ep 347: Sam Wineman Jan 27, 2020
    Show notes

Filmmaker Sam Wineman (DEATHCEMBER, THE QUIET ROOM, Attack Of The Queerwolf Podcast) shares his journey with Adam, Joe, and Arwen in this absolutely fantastic episode! From growing up feeling different and forming a cinematic kinship with the horror genre and its monsters… to recognizing that he was drowning his confusion in alcohol as a young teen and taking action to change the path he was heading down… to bravely coming out as queer to a family that wasn't immediately ready to embrace his realization… to finding his calling in college telling stories and making short films… to the making of his documentary on queer cinema (in post-production now and due out on Shudder this summer)… Sam's candid perspective on the genre makes for a fascinating and eye opening conversation. Dr. Arwen provides "Hollywood Therapy" for a patient stricken with grief and the guys get deeply personal about death in this truly important episode of The Movie Crypt.

    Ep 346: Rodman Flender Jan 20, 2020
    Show notes

Filmmaker Rodman Flender (IDLE HANDS, LEPRECHAUN 2, TV's THE OFFICE) joins Adam, Joe, and Arwen to share his cinematic journey. From starting out as an actor… to always saying "yes" to new and sudden opportunities… to finding himself all but running the day to day operations for Roger Corman's company… to the pros and cons of not being "pigeonholed" as an artist… to IDLE HANDS being targeted by politicians in the wake of the Columbine tragedy… to the making of his latest film EAT BRAINS LOVE ("a road trip comedy with a side of cannibalism")… Rodman's path has been anything but predictable and this conversation is an absolute blast! Dr. Arwen provides "Hollywood Therapy" for a patient in need of cinematic closure, everyone's sick, and all three guys gear up for Panic Fest in Kansas City this coming weekend!

    Ep 345: Kyra Gardner Jan 13, 2020
    Show notes

Filmmaker Kyra Gardner may have only just graduated film school a few months ago but she's already one of the best examples we know of an emerging young talent making huge strides in the world of cinema today! From trying to decide between a career as a veterinarian or an army nurse and instead choosing filmmaking as her calling… to observing her father at work on sets (Tony Gardner is an FX legend – check out our conversation with him in Ep 246)… to having her first short film selected for the 39th Cleveland International Film Festival at age 16 (the youngest participant ever!)… to having her short form documentary THE DOLLHOUSE acquired by Universal Studios for inclusion on the CULT OF CHUCKY home video (she was only 19!)... to winning a DGA Student Award at age 22 for her latest short film PHOEBE… at just 22 years old Kyra's list of accomplishments is enough to motivate anyone looking to pick up a camera! Dr. Arwen provides "Hollywood Therapy" to a patient who is worried that his life may have passed him by as well as a filmmaker ready to secure distribution for his series while Joe stays in bed with the flu just like "Cameron" in FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF ("let my Cameron go…") in this wicked inspiring episode.

    Ep 344: Richard Stanley Jan 06, 2020
    Show notes

He's a mystery wrapped in an enigma and a living hero to every artist who's ever been trampled over by the system. Filmmaker Richard Stanley (HARDWARE, DUST DEVIL, THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU) sits down with Adam Green, Joe Lynch, and Arwen for a long awaited and fascinating discussion about his career journey. From seeing the original ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU in 1977 and determinedly deciding that he would one day tell H.G. Wells' fantastical story his own way... to making a name for himself with 1990's low-budget, post apocalyptic thriller HARDWARE… to watching his follow up DUST DEVIL fall out of his hands due to the bankruptcy of the production company and creative tampering of the final cut of the film (Stanley would go on to finance a restored version from the original negative many years later)… to ultimately getting the chance he dreamed of and writing/directing 1996's THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU – only to have the project become a legendary clusterfuck after creative disputes lead to him being fired just hours after the start of production (in order to understand the absolute nightmare Stanley endured you need to watch LOST SOUL - the 2014 documentary about the DR. MOREAU fiasco)… only to rise from the ashes over two decades later with this his new feature COLOR OUT OF SPACE… if Richard Stanley's unbreakable determination doesn't inspire you to stick to your guns than you need to turn your guns in immediately. Dr. Arwen provides "Hollywood Therapy" to a writer struggling to manage his expectations and Adam and Joe pray at the alter of their cinematic hero in this phenomenal conversation that starts off 2020 in spectacular fashion.

It's pretty amazing that you have access to these incredible conversations every week, isn't it? Don't let THE MOVIE CRYPT go away! Become a Crypt Keeper and start supporting this program today! Whether you contribute a mere $1 a month (yes- even you can afford $1 a month) or take advantage of our higher tiers of support where you can enjoy weekly bonus episodes of "Classic Crypt", early access to every new episode, Adam and Joe's monthly "Crypt Picks" videos, bonus monthly film commentaries, access to our monthly interactive "Movie Crypt Live" episodes, Adam and Joe's "Crypt Diaries," or the holy "Cult of Arwen"… your support keeps our crypt doors open and our microphones recording. Ep 343: 2019 Wrap Up Dec 30, 2019
    Show notes

Adam, Joe, and Arwen bid farewell to 2019 with a look back at the highs and lows from this past year. From the most memorable MOVIE CRYPT conversations, their favorite movies and TV shows, and this year's record breaking "Yorkiethon" … to the heartbreaks of loved ones lost, the career frustrations they've endured, and the guys' extremely candid and personal resolutions for 2020… Adam and Joe hold nothing back as they purge their hearts of the "old" and make room for all the wonderful "new" that is to come. * In our extremely exhausted state we forgot to take our annual "disheveled" picture to accompany the year-end episode. So please forgive the re-use of our 2016 picture. Speaking of New Year's resolutions, why not make 2020 the year that you start supporting this podcast? Sacrificing just one Starbucks [or other brand name] coffee a month will make a world of difference for this program and also get you in far less trouble than sacrificing a neighbor's cat or child! Whether you just donate $1 a month or take advantage of the HOURS of weekly/monthly rewards available in the higher tiers, your support legitimately means everything. Head to Patreon.com/TheMovieCrypt to join our Crypt Keeper family and get your 2020 off to a terrific start!

    Ep 342: Brian Posehn Dec 23, 2019
    Show notes

Comedian Brian Posehn (THE SARAH SILVERMAN PROGRAM, SEX DRIVE, THE DEVIL'S REJECTS, KNIGHTS OF BADASSDOM, HOLLISTON, THE BIG BANG THEORY) joined Adam and Joe as a surprise guest during the first night of "Yorkiethon 4." In this extremely candid conversation the guys discuss Brian's new book FOREVER NERDY, Brian's guest star role on THE MADALORIAN, visiting Rick Baker's house, dealing with fans, Halloween, and much more! Dr. Arwen was at home sleeping yet still managed to provide "Hollywood Therapy" for a patient with concerns over the content their child is consuming and Joe shares a crazy Nicholas Cage story in this episode that was recorded LIVE during THE MOVIE CRYPT's record breaking 4thannual 48-hour marathon to benefit Save A Yorkie Rescue.

This podcast and the podcast's special events like "Yorkiethon" only exist because of our loyal Patrons. Help keep THE MOVIE CRYPT going by becoming a Patreon subscriber today. HALL OF FAME: James Gunn (Ep. 85) 1.5.15 Dec 13, 2019
    Show notes

With GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY writer/director James Gunn cemented himself as one of the greatest filmmakers working in Hollywood. (We called it with SLITHER many years earlier but hey- sometimes it takes people a few years to realize that we're always right!) Recorded way back in December of 2014 and released on January 5, 2015, this "Hall Of Fame" episode truly features one of the best conversations you'll ever hear with the now super star director.

There is only 1 more "Hall Of Fame" episode left to go in our limited "Hall Of Fame" series! Want a hint as to which episode it is? Well, it's only the biggest celebrity on planet earth! Actor Patrick Schwarzenegger (DANIEL ISN'T REAL, SCOUTS GUIDE TO THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE, GROWN UPS 2) joins Adam, Joe, and Arwen to discuss his career journey. From visiting Hollywood sets with his father Arnold as a small child… to the rush that he felt his first time performing … to learning the business side of the industry… to the importance of having interests and endeavors in addition to acting… to a deep dive into the process of making DANIEL ISN'T REAL (out now!)… Patrick and the boys get serious about the craft of acting. Dr. Arwen provides "Hollywood Therapy" for a patient who took on more than they volunteered for and the guys strap themselves in as they prepare to put on the biggest, greatest, and longest LIVE variety show of the year.

HALL OF FAME: The Addiction Special (Ep. 130) 11.16.15 Dec 06, 2019
    Show notes

In what may be the most important conversation you'll ever hear on THE MOVIE CRYPT, addiction counselor Terry Kirkman (A.I.R. Support) sat down with us to get real about the subject of addiction. After meeting so many artists who have struggled with substance abuse in their own lifetimes and after losing our dear friend and brother Dave Brockie to heroin in 2014, we wanted to speak with an expert in the field and gain a better understanding of the illness. We also hoped to help our audience members who may be battling addiction (or who may know someone else who is) and show them that there is truly a light at the end of the long, dark tunnel.

The response to this episode continues to overwhelm us to this very day. Who knows? Perhaps bringing this special episode out of the vault and back into the light may help save even more lives than it did back in 2015 when it originally aired? We can only hope so.

There are only 2 weeks left in THE MOVIE CRYPT's limited "Hall Of Fame" series! Don't miss out on the hundreds of other incredible conversations from our back catalogue! When you sign up to support this podcast on Patreon in the "Early Access/Classic Crypt" tier you'll immediately receive access to our first 90 episodes of "Classic Crypt" (our original episodes released weekly, in chronological order with brand new introductions looking back on the episodes 5 years later) and continue to receive the next classic episode every Wednesday. Want all of our early episodes all at once? Pick up a "Vault" in the store on ArieScope.com! Available in batches of 100 episodes for just $25 or as the "Ultimate Vault" with our first 300 episodes for just $50! You'll not only be giving yourself the gift of months and months of entertainment, you'll be helping this podcast continue to bring you new episodes every Monday.
