Jordan Driver is going to be on everyone's radar in 2025 - she already has taken home over $31,000, winning every round, at the San Diego Rodeo, and just wrapped up a reserve championship at the National Western in Denver. She comes from a long line of ranchers and horse trainers and after teaming up with her two spectacular geldings, TR HeavensIlluminated and Judge JB Cash, she finished 25th in the world in the WPRA last year and is ready to make a run to get to the Thomas & Mack this year! Last November when we recapped the Great Lakes Circuit Finals, we shared how Katie Chism won all three rounds and the average on her home raised stallion, MF Aces Famous Fling. Then we found out this was their first runs back after Katie had her second child just 8 weeks prior. This duo had been there before with her stallion winning horse of the year in her circuit in 2022. We were excited to finally get the chance to catch up with Katie to hear about how her determination to succeed and to let her stallion prove himself, has led to such big accomplishments, and how she manages it all with two little kids with her. Schimke Ranch has been around for over a century and has always been a working ranch - and still is. Yet now days you may see that A Rocking S brand on some of the top horses in our barrel racing industry. We had the chance to talk to Amy Schimke about the history behind her ranch and how it has evolved over the years. Amy and her husband Brett now breed, raise and, train some of the top prospects coming out of South Dakota - not only in the barrel racing, but also in mounted shooting. They stay humble, work hard, and turn out high quality horses year after year. We talk owning stallions, finding the next mare power line, training their own horses, and cheering them on at their next home. We loved this story of a successful program making an impact on our industry - even if they get too busy during breeding season to leave the ranch. We had the privilege to talk to Dr. Stuart Shoemaker a few weeks ago and it is a fantastic conversation about all things in the lameness world - specifically regarding injections and treatments of a variety of lameness cases. Dr. Shoemaker is a board-certified veterinary surgeon with over 40 years of clinical experience where he not only excelled in the practice of lameness, sports medicine and surgery, but also has been actively involved in teaching and researching ways to advance in the treatment of performance horse lameness cases. From the progression of how we perform lameness exams to the variety of treatments available today and when one might use them - the whole goal of Dr. Shoemaker is to help enlighten horse owners on how to help make the best decisions for their equine partners. Angie Meadors is a legend in our industry. A seven time NFR qualifier, a futurity trainer and champion, a model, and most importantly now, a wife and a mother. She has truly done it all and succeeded at every level. Kelly Kaminski and Rockem Sockem Go captivated the rodeo world in the early 2000's winning 2 straight Reserve World Championships, followed up by back to back World Champion titles. We had the opportunity to talk to Kelly and really hear the story of Rocky and how their partnership started with a $500 broodmare purchase and ending as one of the most legendary duos in rodeo history. If there is a combination of names on a set of papers that has set the barrel racing world on fire, it is Dash Ta Fame with Blazin Jetolena crossed with Lady Perks, in some fashion. What do these names have in common with one of the best mares running today - MJ Segers Fast Lane? They are apart of Grant and Rayel Little's impact on the industry. Grant and Rayel Little might have been one of the leading factors behind why Busby Quarter Horses invested in Blazin Jetolena and they purchased the incredible broodmares GL Famous First Lady and Blazin Black Beauty from the Little program way back when, and now we are getting to watch Rollo, Benny, Emmitt and so many more set records today. Rayel is a 4X Canadian Rodeo Champion and is known still today for her time with Lady Perks - including their 3 Ponoka Stampede Championships and so much more. It was an honor to get to visit with Grant and Rayel on their program's history, as well as what it looks like today, and being an owner of one of the most incredible mares running right now. In the early 2000s if you heard "Man I feel like a woman" come on at an NBHA show, or any mega barrel race you knew to run to the fence because you were about to see the legendary HotShot likely take the lead. HotShot - registered as Nate Shilbar - was purchased out of a sale barn and trained by Peyton Raney who had tremendous success on him including winning the 1997 Rookie of the Year title and an NFR qualification. He won with Peyton until 2001 when Janet Stover leased him for the NFR winning a record setting amount to clinch her the World Championship - a record that would still hold today if his placings were tied to current NFR payouts - and then he went on to secure his spot in the history books with the Steinhoff girls. Jockeyed by Tanya, Tyrney, and Taylor Steinhoff for over a decade - HotShot continued to win until his passing in 2011. Tyrney Steinhoff Small took some time to share the legacy of HotShot with us and we know you all will love this one.

Summer Kosel made her splash in the national rodeo scene last year setting the arena record at the Cheyenne Frontier Days. This year she's kept up her winning ways and kept going through the ups and downs to currently be in the top 15! This Badlands Circuit cowgirl and mom of 4 didn't venture much outside her circuit before her main horse, Apollo, had different ideas. They broke their own arena record again this year at Cheyenne and are coming off a win at Sikeston this last weekend and we can't wait to cheer them on in the last 6 weeks of the season!

Sue Smith is a true champion in our sport and has trained some of the best horses we've watched run down the alley. From the futurity world to the NFR, we have seen her win, and in the month of July she won almost $45,000. Winning Ogden, Nampa and Cheyenne with an arena record setting run, Sue is pushing to pursue another NFR qualification this year. A few months ago Kayla made a Facebook post congratulating our giraffe training, Switzerland native, best friend on her Lone Star Shootout Derby championship - and everyone thought she was joking. We weren't! Our guest this week is Dani Buhler who not only trains giraffes but is also pretty good at training barrel horses with a resume that includes a college national finals qualification, and just last October, a $50,000 payday at the Pink Buckle winning the reserve derby championship title. Paul Humphrey is a well established horseman who has spent his career focusing on the horsemanship side of training barrel horses. He spent nearly a decade barrel racing in Italy and is a 10x European barrel racing champion - and then returned to the US with a goal of sharing his education. Nowadays he puts on close to 30 clinics a year always with the same goal - to help riders focus more on the horsemanship aspect of training and getting their horses truly ready to perform. Kelly has trained countless winners and is giving her great horse Cinco her shot at the big time this year and we can't wait to cheer them on! Margo Crowther and her mare Sissy have been winning for years down in Florida. This year they decided to venture west and try some new rodeos and they are now headed to their first National Finals Rodeo! Andrea Cline has dedicated her life to her passion of training barrel horses. She is a BBR 1D World Champion, TX Circuit Finals qualifier, multiple time futurity champ and her horses are known for going on and winning after they leave her program. She has ridden horses for some of the best in the industry like Charmayne James and Molly Powell and continues to train top level horses today. Mark Bugni has been on a hot streak this year winning the first 6 futurities he entered, and a round at the Ruby Buckle with torn ligaments in his ankle. He is a multiple $100,000 slot race winner, Old Fort Days Futurity Champion and year after year he turns out confident winners. We caught up with Mark between the Ruby Buckle and Royal Crown Futurity and loved his insight on keeping his futurity colts confident and in winning form!
Shannon McReynolds has been running the fastest times of the winter rodeos left and right this year. Currently sitting 7th in the WPRA standings, this circuit cowgirl and full time nurse is trying her luck out on the pro rodeo road full time, and so far, it's going pretty well. We were able to catch up with her while she had a break herself, while loaning her standout mare, Minnie Gun, to her daughter at a college rodeo. We will be cheering this team on and hope to see them at the Thomas and Mack come December!
Jill Moody is a lifelong cowgirl who is best known across the industry for riding the outstanding grey mare "Dolly". These two made the NFR 4 times together, winning the average there twice and were the duo to break the 25 year old average record at the time. It just so happened to be that the futurity champion was one of our most requested guests, Leslie Willis! She is a 4-time $100,000 slot race winner and every year has an incredible set of colts to watch. Our guest this week is Stephanie Fryar - a winner at all levels from the futurities to the professional ranks. She made her first NFR in 2008 and finished 16th in the world in 2021, but has had countless big wins and successes in between. From being the Texas Circuit Rookie of the Year, a 4x TX Circuit Finalist, and the Blue Collar Breeders 2019 Futurity Champion, taking home $50,000, she has taken multiple horses through the ranks and continues to win on them today. She shared how she manages the ups and downs of barrel racing and we are looking forward to watching her continue to win this year, hopefully ending in the Thomas and Mack!
Kylie Weast comes from a long line of respected horsemen, barrel racers, and pioneers in the barrel racing industry. Alongside her sisters, she has become one to watch when she runs down the alley on a futurity colt or a rodeo horse. From winning at the futurities to winning the tenth round at the NFR, Kylie shared her story and how she balances being a wife and mother of two and being a barrel horse trainer. Her thoughts on keeping mentally ready to compete are some of the best we have got to share!

His name is listed as the breeder of barrel horses with close to $5 MILLION in earnings and we loved getting the chance to hear how he got into the barrel horse business. DaCota Monk has been jockeying standout horses for years, but really stood out with the incredible mare Famous Lemon Drop in 2020. Going into the NFR we start talking to the ladies who qualified, however the trainers behind some of those superstar horses deserve the spotlight as well. Kyle LeLeux has been in the winners circle all year on his gorgeous gray stallion Dollys StreakNBadger - including winning the Royal Crown Futurity this August. He is an owner, trainer, stallion owner and competitor and has some great insight to all avenues of the industry! We had the chance to talk to him right before the Ruby Buckle in Memphis where he went on to win over $15,000!

Seven years ago Irish Pay was added to the stallion roster of Sampson Family Ranch and since then they have jumped right into the deep end of industry investments being apart of the first set of Pink Buckle stallion owners. Long before that however, Lainee and TK Sampson and their two boys have been raising cattle and horses in Western South Dakota and winning in the rodeos and futurity scene. Andre Coehlo is a good friend and a very talented trainer that you will see time and time again in the winners circle. We have been waiting to be able to talk to him about his training program and history coming from Brazil, a bit about the differences between Brazilian and US barrel racing and how he manages riding as many as he does as head trainer for Smoke Creek Quarter Horses in Bennett, CO. This is a real life story about wanting to get better, stepping out of your comfort zone and making your dreams come true!
Nicole Waggoner Ludwick is a 5x Mountain States Circuit Finalist and if you see her entered, she has a darn good chance of winning. Her story and approach to barrel racing is a bit different than many of our guests. She takes the winters off and is a full time school teacher. It is obviously working for her and her horses and goes to show that you can win inside the rodeo arena and have a full life and career outside of it.
LaTricia Mundorf is a true legend in our sport, earning over 1.6 million dollars in her career and riding horses such as FireWaterOnTheRocks, Dial it Fast, the one and only "Duke" and so many more on her resume. From NFR qualifiers, AQHA world champions and most recently a Ruby Buckle Championship, this conversation covers just about everything that has to do with Barrel Racing.

With the dominance displayed in the rodeo this past week by a daughter of PC Frenchmans Hayday – we decided to go to the start of this dynasty and talk with Tigh and Breelyn Cowan of T4 Quarter Horses – and the home of Sun Frost. Tigh's dad, Pat Cowan, is responsible for this yellow stallion who undeniably helped create a tougher, more gritty and fast breed of barrel horse and equine athlete. We discussed the history from the start – how a trio of full brothers to Sun Frost (Running Gun, Pick Pocket and Frostwood Roan) led to the search for Sun Frost to keep a stallion; how he started his competitive career as a cutting horse at the high school rodeos as a two year old; the day a sucker rod through his gaskin almost ended his life as a 3yo and what led to the sale of PC Frenchmans Hayday and the legacy that move has created. We touched on the different type of reputation some think about when you mention Sun Frost but also how once you understand that their uncanny intelligence and ability to think fast while moving their feet you realize how special they are. This was a fun one!

Next up - newly married 2X NFR qualifier Emily Beisel (formerly Emily Miller)! She lit the Thomas and Mack on fire last December and then planned on a light winter rodeo schedule which turned into overcoming the hurdles of COVID and young horse rodeo seasoning to make it back to Arlington this year. This was a great conversation talking about the highs and lows of rodeos, how she balances barrel racing and living a “normal” life with her husband Austin and what she is doing to prepare for the craziest NFR ever
Our first 2020 NFR qualifier to share their story with The Money Barrel is Shelley Morgan! Her first trip to the NFR was in 2009, and in February 2010 she lost her great horse Short Go. Since then she shares her story of getting back to the bright lights of Vegas (aka Arlington) this year and how her mare, Kiss, has restored her confidence ! We talked about her prep for the NFR which kicks off in just 6 weeks and how she tackled the 2020 rodeo season to stay #7 in the world to qualify this year.

She just wrapped up an incredible weekend at the Pink Buckle running back to back 16.7s on a standard pattern to win both rounds and the Open 1D Average and over $45,000! We talked about her superstar mare Tres Movidas aka “Vida”, a little oopsie this spring, about rodeos, bits, how her and her husband Lee survive training 23+ horses at a time and staying happily married - and about anything else you could think of!
Today we had the opportunity to talk to Crystal Nichols of NickelBar Ranch. Crystal and her husband Radley have created one of the best breeding programs in the nation focusing on kind, solid, sane and winning barrel horses! They own Shawne Bug Leo, Al Cappone, Dashin Dynamo, The Kingsmen and Tres Fortunes. Not only do they focus on superior sires, they have incorporated top mares - such as TR Dashing Badger - into their program to produce some of the best prospects you can find! We were able to talk about all things that go into owning a stallion and how NickelBar Ranch came into existence.
Next up is our North Dakota cowgirl Molly Otto! We had many requests to talk to Molly especially since she has lit the futurity scene on fire this year winning all three rounds of the 5 States, taking home over $35k at the Royal Crown, cashing in on over $20k in Blue Collar Breeders money and placing even at the pro rodeos on her colts. Her program is simple, her colts are confident and we are looking forward to sharing our talk!

Had an awesome talk this morning with Amelia McCumber! She took a different path to barrel racing success - by buying some young horses while focusing on her career and getting her medical degree to be a PA and then entering the futurity world. We talk about sticking it out with the difficult horses and how investing in her own knowledge helped her turn Wally aka Ain’t Seen Famous Yet from a watchy colt that broke into a trot his first time entered to a barn burning winner whose won over $154,000 since May 2019!
We had the opportunity to talk to Lainie Whitmire of Whitmire Ranch and can’t wait to release this episode! We discussed her background growing up around the race tracks and how her filly Whistle Stop Cafe won the All American Futurity time trials last weekend. We got to touch base on she got into the cutting scene and has now created the World Cutting Horse Association and how always having a barrel horse around and doing a little math led her and her family to purchasing JL Dash Ta Heaven. Can you tell she puts 150% into everything she does?
This next episode, with Samantha Winslow of Interval Timing and the Performance Horse Academy may as well be titled “the hard truths of barrel racing!” She talks about barrel racing in a different light - how the bio mechanics of the horse and rider can slow us down or speed us up in the pattern. We will talk to Sam multiple times, but her first episode has some mic drop moments that we can’t wait to share!
We are excited to get the chance to talk to Liz Herrin this week. A 2X College National Champion Barrel Racer and a winning all around cowgirl - she was sitting in the top 25 of the world when a freak accident with her good horse changed her life. She’s back to winning ways, but we can’t wait to share her story and how she overcame what could’ve been a deathly accident.
We can’t wait to talk to Samantha Flannery - a top 50 leading futurity trainer out of South Dakota that’s says it how it is, isn’t afraid to circle a barrel twice in competition and is one of the toughest competitors in the nation! She mainly focuses on 5 year old futurity horses and has rode many different bloodlines to the winners circle. This is going to be a fun one!
Maggie Poloncic not only trains and runs one of the most impressive athletes of our industry today, Ain’t Seen Me Yet, she is also an accomplished ballerina, dancer, and fitness guru. We can’t wait to talk to Maggie about how she went from buying finished horses to compete on, to taking it in her own hands with “Puff”. We ask Maggie how her commitments have changed focus over the years. From being very involved in a dance studio, to professional barrel racing, and back. Maggie talks about how she decided to skip futurities all together and why fitness is such a high importance, even for the rider.
There are many people who raise, train, and run their own horses. However, there are not very many who start from breeding the mare and flushing embryos themselves, to raising and training them, winning at the futurities, and making the NFR on those very horses. Dr. Kathy Grimes will be on our podcast to talk about what her journey has been like, how she manages everything she does, traveling solo with only her cat, Freeway, as a copilot and everything in between! Kathy owns one of the industry’s top blue hen mares, Do It For Beau, and that mare is yet another that Kathy bred and raised herself. It’s an awesome story and we can’t wait to share it!

We will be talking with Taylor Hildreth on what the rollercoaster ride of training futurity colts is like, how she got into training, what it’s like being married to a horse shoer, and anything else we might happen to think of.
