Ep 021: Moving With Kids with Tiffany Sharp Aug 03, 2020
    Show notes

My bestie is on the podcast today to talk to us about preparing for your move with your kids. She’s the total expert on this subject as she has moved just under a gazillion times in the past 8 years with her awesome family!

Last week I shared the 3 E’s to having a successfully organized move on Episode 20:

Essential: Purge before and after your move

    Enhancement: Label boxes properly

Extra: Visualize your move to troubleshoot any problems that may arise

Now Tiffany shares her top 3 E’s, plus some great bonus tips when moving with kids:

Essential: Research your new city, schools, churches, activities before you move. (Use Google, Facebook groups and friends for recommendations, local MOPS groups and other organizations you love.) Along with researching, start praying with your family that God will put the right opportunities and people in your path.

Enhancement: Don’t be afraid to try more than one (or 3) different groups for you and the kiddos to find the right fit for you.

Extra: Accept any help (without feeling guilty) in those first days of your move, including movers, family, friends, babysitters and get your kids involved too in the setting up of their room right away so they feel settled in sooner.

While Tiffany moved from city to city with her growing family, she turned her photography hobby into a business. She takes the most gorgeous family photos and has even hooked me up with some awesome biz pics, including the cover art for my podcast! Thanks, Tiff!

Bonus tip: She says you can never have enough photos of your beautiful family to capture all those special memories and new adventures, especially when you move often. She also suggests that Moms should be in those pictures too. So hand your camera to someone or snap a selfie!

    Ep 020: A Successfully Organized Move Jul 27, 2020
    Show notes

In this episode I discuss how to simplify and organize your move in 3 simple steps! Moving can feel so stressful and completely overwhelming. There are lots of moving parts (no pun intended) that need to be checked off your list. Breaking it down to 3 simple steps at a time can help you feel like you are accomplishing those tasks without feeling so overwhelmed.

I always like to start with an Essential purge of what’s not being used before you pack, and then plan to purge again when you start unpacking if those items aren’t going to work in your new space.

The Enhancement that will add so much value to your move is properly labelling your boxes, whether you or a moving company are packing them. I suggest some specific ways to make this as easy as possible when you are unloading boxes from the truck and unpacking them in each room. This is a crucial step in having an organized move!

Finally, I highly recommend a few Extras, like visualizing the move to troubleshoot any problems that may arise. I also give a friendly reminder to stay as positive and appreciative to everyone involved in helping you with your move, and suggest some simple ways to do this. Let’s face it, this may be a time when you have anxiety, are sleep deprived, and might easily lose your cool.

Don’t forget that this is an amazing opportunity for a fresh start! Allowing old clutter or overwhelm to take over is not in the cards. You’ve got this if you keep it simple!

Here are the highlights from this episode:

{1:28} The 3 step process to help you move

{5:26} Step 1: The purge for a move

{11:58} Step 2: Properly labeling all of the boxes that you're going to be moving

{24:01} Step 3: Visualizing your move

{32:01} The importance of smiling and communication

    Mentioned in this episode:

    Ep 1: The 3 E’s Philosophy

    Ep 7: The Essential Purge

Calm powder to help with sleeping naturally, found at Whole Foods

Trader Joe’s and other grocery stores to ask for empty packing boxes

Ep 019: Simple Healthy Meals with Amy Weinstock Jul 20, 2020
    Show notes

This is one of my favorite episodes so far that I know you are going to want to go back and listen to over and over again! I’m so blessed to have my sweet friend, Amy Weinstock, award winning news anchor turned food blogger with a passion for all things health and wellness on the podcast.

This week Amy shares her top 3’s for a go-to snack, meal, and cocktail/mocktail that are perfect for these summer months. The cool thing about these recipes is that the ingredients are fresh and can be substituted for whatever you have on hand or seasonal faves! She recommends a fun theme night for meal inspiration and even using specific ingredients for their many health benefits, like natural digestive enzymes, low glycemic index, and those with lower calories.

I also love that Amy shares some smart practices when getting the whole family to eat healthily. She believes it’s so important to model healthy eating in front of our kiddos, using simple, fresh ingredients, and enjoying some yummy treats in moderation too!

Ep 018: Organize That Fridge Jul 13, 2020
    Show notes

It’s time to get real about what’s actually going on in that refrigerator and freezer of yours, girlfriend! On this episode I’m going to use the 3 E’s to organize that fridge!

So often food gets lost in our refrigerator and that can lead to losing money on purchases that go bad or go missing in the far back. We don’t want that so it’s time to get organized. Get clear about what’s living there, like 100 ketchup packets or dipping sauces and questionable, unlabeled ziplock bags, and what’s actually getting eaten. This starts with a good purge and scrub down.

Donate or toss items that aren’t being consumed or being used. If those items are some containers you’ve purchased for organization in the past that just aren’t working for you, it’s time to say goodbye. Also, stop any delivery services or continuous purchases that might not be your faves anymore.

Finally, decide if you do want to add new appropriately sized containers. I share lots of my favorite bins and where to find them, like the iDesign brand, Linus bins, The Home Edit line, and others, found at places like The Container Store, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Target, Amazon, Marshall’s, and more. If individual containers aren’t your style, your fridge can still stay organized by grouping like items together to display them clearly when that door opens.

Helpful suggestions mentioned on this episode:

Ep 2: The Cost of Disorganization

    Ep 5: Hashtag Pantry Goals

    @dailyharvest food delivery service

Here are the highlights from this episode:

{1:34} The 3E’s philosophy to organize the fridge

{1:54} Get rid of anything that you don’t need

    {6:09} Do a freezer inventory

{10:04} Choose the right containers for you

{12:49} Organize the space with movable shelves

{16:01} Use labels to maintain the organization

Ep 017: Smart Shopping and Summer Activities with Trae Bodge Jul 06, 2020
    Show notes

My money-saving, simple activity-loving heart was bursting as I interviewed the lovely and super smart Trae Bodge! She’s the real deal!

Trae Bodge is an accomplished lifestyle journalist, TV presenter, spokesperson, and educator, specializing in beauty, tech, apps, toys, gift guides, and smart shopping. She’s been a guest on the The Rachel Ray Show, Today, Inside Edition, CNN, Reuters, CNBC.com, and so many more. She’s featured in Elle, Redbook, InStyle, and Essence, just to name a few!

On this episode Trae shares a ton of practical ideas for spending and saving money wisely for us and our kids! Not only do we talk about the best ways to do some shopping right now, she also suggests some summer activities that are both budget and kid-friendly!

Here are some of the suggestions she has:

    Virtual camps

While some traditional camps are opening, virtual camps will be a huge thing this year. The American Camp Association is a great resource – you can search by category, free vs. paid and live vs. pre-recorded instruction. Options include nature, technology, arts, sports, you name it. Also, check with the groups where your kids usually go to camp, they might be offering virtual options as well.

    Free online activities for kids

Google has done a great job of creating and curating online content for kids (and adults!). The Google Arts & Culture Youtube channel has countless videos to enjoy, from private museum tours to videos that focus on a specific work of art. With Google Earth Voyager (earth.Google.com), you can do everything from exploring national parks, like the Grand Canyon and Yosemite, to taking a tour around famous cities.

Other resources she likes are the free illustration tutorials from the #DrawWithDisneyAnimation series on YouTube and crafting tutorials from Michael’s.

For saving and earning money this summer and year round, Trae recommends selling gently used items that you have laying around, like old laptops, phones, and tablets.

Decluttr.com is a site that will buy those items and you can give kids a portion of the proceeds. Teens especially are great at that stuff and they’ll love the extra cash.

Acorns is the round-up/saving platform she mentions in this episode. Click there on Trae’s special affiliate link. Thanks for sharing it with us, Trae!

    Additional savings tools:

    Slickdeals.net & CouponCabin.com

Follow Trae on all social media platforms @truetrae and check out her website www.truetrae.com for resources and to sign up for her bi-monthly newsletter. It’s full of the most up-to-date suggestions and links for all your family’s needs each month!

Ep 016: Push Pause and Restart Jun 29, 2020
    Show notes

This week’s episode is all about pausing life when it gets stressful, then pushing the restart button when you’re ready. I frame it like a movie, and confess that sometimes I feel like that’s exactly what I’m living in. Life gets overwhelming sometimes, especially during a pandemic, and you may wonder if this is real life! Wouldn’t it be great to be able to fast forward to the end of this scene and restart where it gets better, more interesting, or the kids are behaving the way you actually want them to?

Even in the good times, it’s kind of nice to push pause and live in the moment a bit longer before it gets close to the end. See? I really do think of life like a movie!

So often we busy moms get so overwhelmed but keep pushing through, without asking for help, without pausing to address our own needs, and certainly without giving ourselves credit for all the things we actually are accomplishing beautifully each day.

That’s why I created a mini course that’s all about giving yourself credit for the things you are doing that never even make it on your to do list! It’s a video from a mom talk I did a couple years ago with a quick and easy workbook to fill out as you listen, so you are sure to note what you need, what you really are getting done, and how you can give yourself more credit for those things.

Don’t worry, this isn’t just one more thing to add to your to do list. I’m a busy mom too. I wouldn’t do that to you! It’s good stuff, I promise.

So checkout this link after you listen to the episode, that’ll offer you more support and tons of motivation to live your best movie life. And not to worry, if you get distracted or want to take notes, you can always push pause and restart when you’re ready!

Here are the highlights from the episode:

{1:56} How we can all relate to imperfection

{3:22} Feeling the pressure to do it all

{4:49} All about the Mini Course

{11:58} How we can’t change some things but we can change how we react to them

{12:07} How to push pause and restart

{14:37} How a little ‘good’ stress can help to motivate you

{16:07} What the Bible tells us about falling short and what we can do about it

{17:45} Clearing the clutter to see the blessings

{19:09} Keeping things simple with the 3 E’s

Here’s the Kids and Schedule Mini Course link with the video, workbook, a snack and lunch demo perfect for getting you ready for the week when the kids are back to school, and even a Q&A with some moms in the audience:

Ep 013: Coronavirus Helpful Hodgepodge  Jun 08, 2020
    Show notes

In this episode, that was recorded about a month into the Coronavirus lockdown and before the worldwide protests sparked by the death of George Floyd, I discussed a range of topics that kept coming up for me as a busy mom of littles. It’s such a hodgepodge because, quite frankly, I was floundering a bit. I’m a person who thrives on a schedule and likes to prepare for the days and weeks ahead. Unfortunately, there’s so much uncertainty during this time of the pandemic, plus the social unrest that’s hurting so many people around the world right now. Despite the big changes that happened between the recording and releasing of this episode, I still believe that everything mentioned is still relevant and in some ways, more so than when I was speaking about them initially. Giving yourself and others grace, being sensitive & empathetic to those who are suffering, not putting so much pressure on yourself for productivity, continuing to simplify things so as not to become overwhelmed, sharing and celebrating your wins, finding ways to contribute and help others who are struggling, choosing your battles, and praying constantly for guidance and peace, were some of the topics that came up in this episode. Yes, I’d say those things are definitely still relevant today. My heart breaks for those hurting and my prayers seem more abundant than ever. I hope you and your family are safe and healthy and you are finding love and support during this time. Here are the episode highlights:

    {5:17} The “lucky” episode

{8:43} The stress of being abundantly productive

{12:35} Finding comfort during these times from family, friends & God)

    {17:34} Giving yourself grace

Ep 012: Temporary Home Office Jun 01, 2020
    Show notes

This episode moved to the top of my list of organization topics to tackle now, given the fact that lots of us are still quarantining (or at least social distancing). This might mean your work has now been relocated to your home, whether you have room for it or not!

Additionally, you may have a homeschooling situation you weren’t intending to have at the beginning of last school year now happening at your dining room table or in your kids' rooms. We don’t know what going back to school will look like in the fall, so establishing some separate work spaces for everyone in the family could be needed now more than ever before.

In this episode I’ll share with you some suggestions for organizing and styling each of these spaces, whether temporary or semi-permanent, in a budget-friendly, creative way. Of course getting this set up includes using the 3 E’s to keep it simple & have you seeing results fast!

I hope it inspires you to create an organized, functioning work space for you and your family.

For more in-depth assistance in getting organized in your home, wardrobe, with your kids, and in your schedule, check out these helpful online courses I created with you and your family in mind! I’ve separated them into categories that will address your specific needs quickly, easily, and in 3 simple steps!

And don’t worry, these courses aren’t more work you have to do. They are as simple as listening to this podcast, but with added photo before and after pics for inspiration, videos to watch for easy step-by-step instructions, and PDFs of helpful checklists to keep you on track if lists are your jam! I know you’ll enjoy these courses, and feel less overwhelmed when organizing and styling your life!
