    In my role as the president of the Colorado Chapter of the National Association of Royalty Owners (NARO), I was invited to be a panelist on a Mineral Interest Owner Forum hosted by Great Western Petroleum, the largest oil and gas operator in Adams County Colorado. Thanks again to Great Western for organizing this event.

    This episode features a replay of this Forum held on June 8th, 2021. It features a panel discussion between myself and Energy Attorney Jamie Jost about private property rights and making sure your voice is heard when oil and gas regulations are developed that could affect the future development of mineral interests.

    MRP 109: NARO Board Member and Landman Katy Alven Jun 10, 2021

    In this interview, NARO Board Member and Landman Katy Alven shares her experiences working in the oil & gas industry and most recently managing the land department of a mineral acquisition company. We also discuss Katy's involvement with NARO and how NARO has helped her learn about how to manager her mineral rights.

    Katy Alven is a landman, mineral owner, and has been active in the oil and gas industry since 2007. She is head of the Land Department at Mekusukey Oil Company, LLC in Wewoka, Oklahoma. She is responsible for Mekusukey's ongoing mineral acquisition program and management of Mekusukey's inventory of approximately 110,000 net mineral acres across 26 states. Additionally, in 2016, Katy founded Mustang Minerals, LLC and currently owns and manages approximately 900 net mineral acres across 13 states.

    In 2006, Katy graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas with a BA in English and later obtained an MBA from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond (2012) and a Master of Legal Studies in Energy from Oklahoma City University (2014).

    Katy is a Certified Mineral Manager and Registered Professional Landman. She was elected to the Oklahoma NARO Board in 2018 and is the current OK-NARO Secretary. She was elected to the National NARO Board in 2021. In addition to NARO, she is a member of the American Association of Professional Landmen, Oklahoma City Association of Professional Landmen, and Texas Independent Producers & Royalty Owners Association.

    MRP 107: NARO Executive Director Jack Fleet May 27, 2021

    I'm very excited about our conversation with our guest this week. Justin and I spoke with Jack Fleet, the Executive Director of the National Association of Royalty Owners, Inc. (NARO).

    In his role as Executive Director, Jack works as an advocate for mineral and royalty owners like you and I at the at both the state and national level, giving testimony on the impact of legislation being considered.

    Additionally, he supports all of the state and regional chapters of NARO. He has been involved at all levels of NARO from serving as Interim Executive Director in 2020, and is a past president of the NARO National board and a past president of the NARO Texas Chapter. He has also served on the Oklahoma NARO, NARO Foundation, and NARO National Boards in various capacities and has delivered several presentations on mineral and royalty management at NARO events.

    He is also a member of the AAPL and is a professional level Certified Mineral Manager (CMM) with NARO and has taught several CMM review classes.

    Jack is the Managing Member of Fleet Dickey Mineral Properties, LLC one of his family's mineral companies where he manages mineral, royalty, working and surface interest.

    MRP 106: NARO Board Member Martha Barnes May 20, 2021

    Many of you may recognize today's guest from the Mineral Rights Forum and her involvement with the National Association of Royalty Owners (NARO). I'm referring to Martha Barnes who is an amazing person that has generously helped hundreds if not thousands of people on the forum and through her work with NARO.

    In this episode, Martha shares some amazing tips for all mineral owners, whether you are just starting out or are a seasoned professional. And despite the fact that she is an experienced geologist and oil and gas industry vet, when it came time to take over the management of her families mineral rights, she realized that there was still a lot to learn. Listen how her involvement with NARO helped her bridge that knowledge gap and some of the helpful things that the organization is doing to empower mineral and royalty owners.

    Martha Creager Barnes is an owner and managing partner at Santa Clara Minerals, LLC which manages mineral rights for private mineral owners. Prior to starting SCM, she was an exploration and production geologist for Marathon Oil Company for nearly 29 years. Martha grew up in New Mexico and is a third-generation geologist and a fourth-generation mineral owner. She has a BA in Geology and Managerial Studies from Rice University, a MS in Geology from the University of South Carolina and is a Registered Geologist with the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists (TBPG) and a Certified Geologist with the American Association of Petroleum Geoscientists (AAPG). She is a Certified Minerals Manager with the National Association of Royalty Owners (NARO) and currently serves as a Director on the OK NARO Board and the US NARO Board. She is a member of AAPG, HGS, and AAPL.
