MRP 120: Listener Stories - Mineral Owner Barb Rankin Sep 01, 2021
    Show notes

Look, if you are just starting out, all of this can be hard. There is a lot to learn, unfamiliar terminology, and so many different things that you feel that you need to do now. From researching what you own, contacting oil and gas operators about producing wells that you just learned about, to going through probate, to getting YOUR estate in order for the next generation. The good thing is you don't have to figure it out all at once. It is a journey and as I like to say, it is a marathon, not a sprint.

We speak with a listener and fellow mineral owner, Barb Rankin, who is just starting out on her mineral rights an royalties journey. From the biggest challenges to the biggest successes, how to go about getting help and finding the right attorney, landman, or engineer, to some of the most helpful resources out there for mineral rights and royal owners. You won't want to miss this one because even if you are a seasoned pro, there are some great tips and resources that we talk about in this episode.

MRP 119: Carbon Intensity of U.S. Oil Production Compared to OPEC and Russia Aug 25, 2021
    Show notes

As the Washington Post recently reported, Joe Biden made "the embarrassing move to call on OPEC and its allies to boost oil production as pump prices climb, underscoring alarm over the U.S. loss of energy independence under President Biden."

By asking OPEC and its allies like Russia to increase oil production, will this actually result in increased CO2 emissions versus if he had asked domestic producers to increase production? We were surprised at what we discovered.

    Show notes

As you may know, there is a big push towards "renewables" and electric vehicles as part of the goal of a net zero carbon emission future. In this episode, we talk about the pros and cons of this transition as it relates to the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) movement. Specifically, we discuss why there seems to be a bigger focus on the Environmental aspects around energy while the negative Social elements around "green" energy tend to get less coverage. Finally, we talk about what materials will be required to enable this transition and whether there will be opportunities for mineral owners to benefit from the growth in mining of minerals like lithium, cobalt, and copper in the US.

Our guest this week is Ian Dexter Palmer, the author of The Shale Controversy, which explains the pros and cons of fracking and tries to distill the facts around climate change in a non-partisan way.
