UFOs: Truth, Lies, and Conspiracies | MHP 08.16.21. Aug 17, 2021

Show notes

Since 2017, the UFO debate has undergone an unprecedented renewal in interest. Following the publication of a landmark article in The New York Times, questions--and controversies--have surrounded the topic, as the debate over the origins of UFOs, and what level of involvement the U.S. government has had in collecting data about them, has continued.

With the recent release of a new Showtime series, UFO, which examines the debate and its controversies, more questions than answers arise with regard to what the modern UFO debate actually represents. This week, we examine the recent history of the phenomena, and the controversies surrounding the topic as discussed by some of the key individuals featured in the new series... all this, and more on this week's edition of The Micah Hanks Program.

The Galileo Project: The Astronomers Who Hunt For UAP | MHP 08.09.21. Aug 11, 2021

Show notes

Following the release of a June 2021 report by the Navy's UAP Task Force, many scientists have now felt compelled to pursue ways science can now be applied to the subject of UAP. Among them is Harvard Astronomer Avi Loeb, who returns to The Micah Hanks Program to discuss The Galileo Project, an effort by Loeb and a team of astronomers to attempt to obtain high resolution imagery and other data about UAP.

According to the project's website, "the scientific community now needs the determination to systematically, scientifically and transparently look for potential evidence of extraterrestrial technological equipment. The impact of any discovery of extraterrestrial technology on science and on our entire worldview would be enormous." We discuss this with Dr. Loeb, and much more on this week's edition of The Micah Hanks Program.

The Men Who Stare at UFOs: John Alexander on the Record | MHP 08.02.21. Aug 03, 2021

Show notes

Much of the modern discussion about UFOs revolves around the Pentagon's AATIP program, which looked at aerospace threats and culminated in the Navy's current UAP Task Force. But before any of this came along, several years ago the existence of a group called the Advanced Theoretical Physics Project was disclosed with far less fanfare.

John Alexander, Ph.D., the group's founder, has been a leading advocate for the development of non-lethal weapons since he created renewed interest in the field starting in 1989. After retiring from the Army, Dr. Alexander joined Los Alamos National Laboratory where he was instrumental in developing the concept of Non-Lethal Defense. He has briefed White House Staff, National Security Council, Members of Congress, former Directors of Central Intelligence, and senior Defense officials on nonlethal weaponry, and also on unidentified aerial phenomena, as he recounts in his book UFOs: Myths Conspiracies, and Realities, and his new book, Reality Denied: Firsthand Experiences with Things that Can't Happen – But Did. Dr. Alexander joins us for a wide-ranging discussion about UFOs on this week's edition of The Micah Hanks Program.

UAP Analysis: Studying Anomalous Aerial Vehicles | MHP 07.26.21. Jul 27, 2021

Show notes

With the recent release of a government report on UAP detailing the U.S. Navy's efforts in studying unidentified objects in U.S. airspace, questions remain about the nature and possible origins of the technologies being observed. What are they, where are they from, and how might science be applied toward resolving the questions that remain about them?

One organization has continued to apply science toward answering these questions, and that is the Scientific Coalition for UAP Studies (SCU). Among its founding members is Robert Powell, a longtime researcher of the historical and scientific aspects of UFO phenomena. Drawing from his background in UFO research, we have an in-depth discussion with Robert about UAP analysis and the mission of the SCU on this week's edition of The Micah Hanks Program.

UFOs and Science: An Astronomer's Perspective | 07.19.21. Jul 21, 2021

Show notes

Why don't astronomers see UFOs? If there are indeed unidentified aerial phenomena in our skies, shouldn't the scientists tasked with watching the stars see them more often? In truth, some astronomers actually have seen UFOs... although many, if not most, are fairly dismissive of the idea that intelligently controlled objects of unknown origin are coasting around in our skies.

That's not the case with Chris Impey, a University Distinguished Professor of Astronomy and Associate Dean of the College of Science at the University of Arizona. Impey is a past Vice President of the American Astronomical Society and is also the author of the book Talking About Life, which explores what is arguably the greatest question of all: are we alone in the universe? However, this week Professor Impey joins us to talk about another topic: unidentified aerial phenomena, and why he believes more scientists should be studying this mystery, on this week's edition of The Micah Hanks Program.

Ayahuasca: Alien Intelligence & Inner Paths to Other Realms | MHP 07.12.21. Jul 14, 2021

Show notes

Answers to the question of whether we are alone in the universe are one of humankind's oldest pursuits. Many astronomers think that the discovery of intelligent life from other worlds may happen in the decades ahead, while UFO proponents believe the evidence of their existence could already be found closer to home.

However, for centuries South American shamanic rituals have told of the unique properties of a ceremonial brew called ayahuasca, and how its potent effects appear to render effects that are strikingly similar to science fiction portrayals of alien contact. This week we explore the curiosities of ayahuasca, and what clinical studies in recent years tell us about it. We also look at the descriptions many experiencers offer about their perceived interactions with intelligent beings while using it... all on The Micah Hanks Program.

The Future of UAP Studies: An Assessment | MHP 07.05.21. Jul 06, 2021

Show notes

With the recent release of a U.S. government report on unidentified aerial phenomena, we are left with more questions than answers about the enduring mystery of UFOs. Where do we go from here, and how will the U.S. military proceed with its studies in the years ahead?

This week, in addition to reviewing the United Kingdom's response to the UAP Task Force report, we look at what the future of UFO studies may entail, and what government agencies can--and should--do in the years ahead, in terms of managing its studies in ways that promote transparency, and a number of other considerations outlined on this week's edition of The Micah Hanks Program.

The Report on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena: A Complete Analysis | MHP 06.28.21. Jun 29, 2021

Show notes

A widely anticipated U.S. government report on unidentified aerial phenomena has been delivered to Congress, representing one of the most significant assessments on unusual encounters logged by the American military in recent decades. Although the public version of the report, titled "Preliminary Assessment: Unidentified Aerial Phenomena," comprises only nine pages, it offers a summary of the findings of the Navy's UAP Task Force after it analyzed 144 incidents that occurred between 2004 and 2021.

This week, Micah provides an extensive analysis of the report, its findings, the significant takeaways, and also the possible long-term implications of the study and responses to it. What does the UAP Task Force report tell us about the government's awareness of this phenomenon, and how future studies will be undertaken?

UFOs on Capitol Hill: Classified Briefings & Congressional Hearings | MHP 06.21.21. Jun 22, 2021

Show notes

Last Wednesday, lawmakers on Capitol Hill received a classified briefing by the Navy and the FBI, which detailed some of the findings of a report on UFOs expected to be delivered this month. Some members of the House have even said that future Congressional hearings on UFOs might result from the report and the details it provides on unusual aerial encounters our military has reported.

However, this would not be the first time efforts to get Congress to look seriously at UFOs have been undertaken. On this week's podcast, we analyze the events of 1966 which almost led to public Congressional hearings on the UFO issue, how this period in history relates to the current climate regarding unusual aerial phenomena, and whether hearings on Capitol Hill could result in the days ahead.

Life Before: Children Who Remember Past Lives | MHP 06.14.21. Jun 15, 2021

Show notes

Do some children possess the ability to recall memories that fall beyond their own living experience? If so, where do these memories come from, and could they be related to phenomena recognized by various cultures throughout history such as reincarnation, which involves the idea of the rebirth of a soul into a new body?

Joining us to discuss scientific efforts to evaluate such claims and understand their possible relationship to the enduring mysteries of the human mind and consciousness is Jim B. Tucker, Ph.D., a child psychologist with the University of Virginia Division of Perceptual Studies, and author of the book Before: Children's Memories of Previous Lives. We examine the controversial notion that some children may have recollections about life events lived by others on this week's edition of The Micah Hanks Program.
