The Mahjcast: Two Bros Talk Mahjong

The Mahjcast is American Mahjong with the filters off. Hosted by Jason and Ira, the Mahj Bros, it’s a funny, irreverent and refreshingly different take on the people, personalities, strategy, tournaments, trends, rules and table drama shaping the game. This isn’t a how-to show and it definitely isn’t your mother’s mahjong podcast. Expect sharp takes, ridiculous stories, strong opinions, guest personalities, Mahj Confessions and plenty of debate. Pull up a chair—you’ve got a front-row seat to the culture exploding around the table.

The first tile is down.

In the debut episode of The Mahjcast, Jason and Ira dive straight into the most exciting moment of the year—the release of the new National Mahjong League card. From first reactions and favorite hands to confusion over scoring (and a little healthy debate), they break down what’s new, what’s wild, and what players should be thinking heading into a new season.

But this episode goes way beyond the card.

Jason and Ira share how they got into the game—from intense “bootcamp” training with their legendary teacher Jackie to their first high-pressure tournament experience (and what not to do when you walk into an elevator with seasoned players). Along the way, they unpack the personalities, etiquette, and culture that define the table—and why mahjong is having a major moment right now across generations, cities, and even states you wouldn’t expect.

They also talk about bringing new players into the game, how to actually learn without getting overwhelmed, and why committing early might be the most important move you make.
