Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood (Free Bonus) Jul 11, 2022

Show notes

It’s Tarantino’s twisted, affectionate love letter to the Hollywood of yesteryear — and it’s a criminally underrated gem.

Some people will tell you it’s “about nothing,” but that’s exactly the point. In that deliberate nothingness lies something special: a rich, nostalgic, and surprisingly tender look at the life, the vibe, and the fading glory of 1960s Hollywood.

Total Recall Jun 22, 2022

Show notes

Total Recall is in the argument for one of the most thought-provoking Arnold pictures ever put to the silver screen. What's the same thing about every vacation you've ever taken? The answer is simple: you, but that idea is interesting. Implanting false memories of a vacation you never took is a deeply interetsing philosophical concept. Combine that with mega-violence, and a triple-breasted mutant, and you have a great science fiction film.

Pirates of the Caribbean Jun 06, 2022

Show notes

Did the Pirates franchise run too long? 100%. But is the first Pirates picture amazing. 100% it is. This movie had people unironically looking for sea shanties to sing, reading historical books about pirates, and using phrases like "as it were," and "savvy." Depp shows off just how good he is with another character that is not like his other ones. Fantastic picture. Highly rewatchable.

Die Hard with a Vengeance (Free Bonus) May 09, 2022

Show notes

Die Hard with a Vengeance if often (and rightfully) overshadowed by the first Die Hard picture. That said, this movie is fantastic, and a wonderful entry into the series after a weak second movie. Jeremy Irons and Samuel Jackson are fantastic. Simon says, you better listen to this episode, or we will make you fill up bottles of water at a fountain to avoid being blow up.
