Latest Episodes:

Episode #186 - Writers' Room: NightMist #49 Aug 17, 2021

Show notes

Finally, you get to see the Soothsayer himself, and on a comic cover, at that!

Show Notes:

Run Time: 1:30:54

So, we do some goofs, but then the story came together... so quickly? Whoops? It's OK — we spend extra time in the question section, as a result!

A very important thing happened last week while we were recording this episode! We here at Greater Than Games were nominated for several ENNIES! Learn more in this blog post I made yesterday. Two big things: this podcast was one of the nominations, so this is now an Ennie Award Nominated podcast! Can we win an Ennie? That's up to YOU! Voting runs Wednesday, August 18th through the 27th! The second thing: the Sentinel Comics RPG got a bunch of nominations, so that's what the upcoming Bullpen will be about, which we're recording live this coming Friday! Come join us!

Episode #185 - Creative Process: Expatriette Foes Aug 10, 2021

Show notes

Greetings from the distant past!

Show Notes:

Run Time: 1:33:34

What ancient words you hear now... can this hoary old record still hope to have any relevance in this new world of today?

Well, let's see! After some goofs (or are they seriouses?!), we go into making up villains for our favorite gun-toting cyclops! (I mean, first we do on-topic goofs, because, how could we not?)

After about an hour of villain creation, we take your questions! What do we do with them? Nothing responsible!

Join us next time for a team-up Writers' Room between your favorite misty magician and your also favorite grumpy arcane academic!

Episode #184 - Writers' Room: Disparation Vol. 2 #150 Aug 03, 2021

Show notes

La Comodora and Chrono-Ranger visit the Extremeverse! Or is it the Xtremeverse?

Show Notes:

Run Time: 1:36:42

Adam's got house problems, but that's not going to stop us from getting EXTREME! But first! Some spelling disputes.

Then, we tell a whole set of stories! More than we expected! We bounce between a few different issues. All over the top. We hope you enjoy them.

And then the questions ALSO get XTREME! Trevor does a great job with the episode, as usual.

Join us next week for a Creative Process episode about Expatriette Foes! However, we're recording that episode the same day this episode comes out, in the evening, so if you don't have letters in within the first few hours after this episode is posted, then instead get us letters about the next episode after that: Writers' Room: NightMist & Soothsayer Carmichael Team-Up! Woo!

Episode #183 - Writers' Room: Arcane Tales Vol. 2 #534 Jul 27, 2021

Show notes

Biomancer is back, but with a more explained plan than ever before! Still not THAT much explanation, though. It's still Biomancer.

Show Notes:

Run Time: 1:29:54

We're excited to bring you another Biomancer story. He's very much a "sometimes food", but we enjoy it when it comes up.

We do some goofs, figure out where/when in the history of Sentinel Comics this issue lands, and tell the various parts of this story, all of which takes just over half an hour! We're getting pretty good at this.

Then, we get into a ton of mostly-Biomancer focused questions. Go figure that such an enigmatic figure would raise so many questions.

Join us next week for a Disparation Writers' Room all about La Comodora in the Extremeverse! Get your questions in now!

Episode #182 - Writers' Room: Justice Comics #299 Jul 13, 2021

Show notes

Time for a quick switcheroo!

Show Notes:

Run Time: 1:25:22

Let's swap some bodies! Just who will get swapped, and to what end? The cover above gives at least a little of it away, but not enough to ruin the story... not by a long shot!

After about 38 minutes of storytelling (sprinkled liberally with goofs), we get to your questions, which range far and wide! High and low! Inside and outside! Cats and dogs, living together!

Join us next Tuesday, July 20th, for Bullpen #4! OR! If you're on the Letters Page Patreon, join us live on Friday, July 16th! Come talk to Dave! And a special guest! And Adam, but with Dave's voice! And more!

Episode #181 - Writers' Room: Disparation Vol. 2 #119 Jul 06, 2021

Show notes

The fireworks are still going off here!

Show Notes:

Run Time: 1:36:41

We do some small talk, and even a bit of medium talk, and then we get into the story!

By "story" I mean, slogging through coming up with versions of the heroes for the tale. Once we've got those, everything else goes smoothly. That's how it goes!

Lots of questions on a variety of topics, which we get into at around the 51 minute mark.

Join us next time, where we tell a Body Swap story!

Episode #180 - Creative Process: Grace and Owen Charles in Universe One Jun 29, 2021

Show notes

Let's talk about the people who get revamped into Catastrophe and Verge in the Vertex timeline! (Now there's an "inside baseball" statement!)

Show Notes:

Run Time: 1:38:34

We're flying blind for this one! Rather than coming at it with an idea of where we're going, we just knew that we needed to fill some story gaps. And we did it! Plus, came up with some content that you'll see in the future...

Thanks for joining us! Get your questions in for our historic look at a hero team, with Episode #181 - Writers' Room: Disparation: Freedom Four 1776!

Lingering OblivAeon questions
NightMist
Portal Fiends
Biomancer
Names
Magic creatures
Magic users
Both
Neither
and more!

We'll catch you...

Episode #179 - Writers' Room: Disparation Vol. 2 #3 Jun 15, 2021

Show notes

Just what ISVisionary's deal, anyway?

Show Notes:

Run Time: 1:18:02

We talk about more than just one issue! We have lots of issues, in fact! But we only full Writers' Room one issue, which is the cover you see above here. But just what is that story? You'll have to listen to find out!

After a little over half an hour of storytelling (this one went surprisingly quickly!), we get into your questions. We even get into some letters about unrelated alternate reality stuff — seems like there's a lot of lingering interest there!

Thanks for listening, everyone! If you're a Contributor on our Patreon, go vote now for what we're talking about next month! And join us live this Friday for the next Editor's Note!
