The KJ Show #51 - Stop The Insanity Jul 19, 2023
    Show notes

Albert Einstein is credited with saying, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." This definition is surprisingly accurate in describing the transition to net zero or green energy.
Customers are pushing back against the green energy transition, as it becomes obvious that EVs, solar panels and wind turbines cause huge environmental damage. And governments are rethinking their green energy pledges too as they realize, like Germany, that energy from the sun and wind alone won’t meet their energy needs. After shutting down all their nuclear plants, Germany now relies on electricity from coal and natural gas supplied by other countries.
Isn’t it a bit mad to rely dirty “clean energy” to mitigate climate change, especially when these technologies harm the planet that we are trying to save?
On today’s show, Dr. Katherine Johnson will discuss these paradoxical energy policies with her guest Joel Gilbert, P.E., Co-Founder and Senior Advisor of Apogee Interactive. The KJ Show #50 – Rare Earth Elements: Green Energy’s Dirty Dozen (and a half) Jul 12, 2023
    Show notes

Transitioning to a decarbonized economy requires ramping up production to build more EVs, solar panels, and wind turbines. But these green energy technologies are manufactured using one or more of 17 Rare Earth Elements (REEs).
These minerals are "rare" because the extraction process is difficult and expensive. But the environmental cost is even higher, as REE mining operations cause long-term environmental damage, including water and air pollution, and radioactive waste.
Dr. Katherine Johnson will explore the harmful side effects of using REEs for a not-so-clean and green energy transition on today's show. Please join the conversation at 11 a.m. Eastern Live by calling 866-451-1451 or send in your thoughts to kjohnson@johnsonconsults.com

    The KJ Show #49 – Red, White & Green Jul 05, 2023
    Show notes

Dr. Katherine Johnson will "follow the money" driving green investments. Who truly benefits from the millions of dollars supporting net zero or "green energy?" And how many greenbacks will it take to fund this movement to green energy? Today's show will explore the links between green funding and green energy.
And be sure to get your "energy efficiency veggies" this summer. Katherine will share low-cost/no-cost energy savings tips on ways to reduce your energy use all season long.

The KJ Show: Episode 48– The Great Climate Debate! Jun 28, 2023
    Show notes

Is it climate change or long-term weather effects? Contrary to popular belief, climate change is not settled science. It is still a hotly debated topic among scientists, academics, politicians and environmentalists. On today's show, our host, Dr. Katherine Johnson, will discuss the origins of the climate change debate and share insights from leading scholars on this topic.
Please join in the "Great Climate Debate!" at 11 a.m. Eastern Live by calling 866-451-1451 or send in your opinions to kjohnson@johnsonconsults.com

The KJ Show: Episode 47– Is the Green New Deal in Europe Falling Off the Rails? Jun 21, 2023
    Show notes

The KJ Show, Live, Wednesdays at 11 a.m. BoldBraveTV.com or BoldBraveTalk.com.
Europe set the standards for a clean, green, net-zero energy future. But now, some EU citizens are pushing back on green energy policies and demanding that politicians delay some environmental policies. Lawmakers are concerned about antagonizing workers with new binding legislation and restrictive measures. And Germany's transport minister asked why the government is pushing electric vehicles if the power that drives them comes from burning coal.
Our host, Dr. Katherine Johnson, will discuss how these European concerns may be a cautionary tale for the US's energy policy on today's show. Please join our conversation at 11 a.m. Eastern Live by calling 866-451-1451 or send your thoughts to kjohnson@johnsonconsults.com

The KJ Show #46 - Nuclear Energy: Coming to a Small Town Near You Jun 14, 2023
    Show notes

Nuclear energy has always been a controversial energy source, but the current administration is betting on nuclear as critical to moving toward a carbon-free future. Nuclear energy technology has evolved and is now longer the large industrial plants built decades ago. These new configurations, with a lower cost and a lower footprint, are attracting interest from rural communities that will benefit from tax incentives from the IRA and the well-paying jobs these plants provide.
Tune in for today's show, where our host, Dr. Katherine Johnson, will explain how nuclear energy may be just what is needed to make a cost-effective transition to a fossil-fuel future. Please join our conversation at 11 a.m. Eastern Live by calling 866-451-1451 or send your thoughts to kjohnson@johnsonconsults.com

The KJ Show #45 – Blowin' in the Wind Jun 07, 2023
    Show notes

Is the answer to our energy challenges wind power? Perhaps, but as wind power technologies evolve and change, customers and environmental groups question whether wind power lives up to its promise of a cheap and clean energy source.
Our host, Dr. Katherine Johnson, will explore wind power's advantages and challenges on today's show. The wind is a clean energy source that is also unpredictable and can lead to unintended environmental impacts. Please join our conversation at 11 a.m. Eastern Live by calling 866-451-1451 or send your thoughts to kjohnson@johnsonconsults.com

The KJ Show #44 – How Clean is My Coal? May 31, 2023
    Show notes

Is the term "clean coal" an oxymoron or a strategy to provide a bridge from fossil to renewable energy? Coal has been used for centuries as a critical heating source. But what is the role of coal in the "green revolution?" It may not be easy to eliminate coal from our future energy plans.
Today, Katherine discusses the pros and cons of using clean coal to power our future energy technologies. Please join our conversation at 11 a.m. Eastern Live by calling 866-451-1451 or send your thoughts to kjohnson@johnsonconsults.com

The KJ Show #43 - Heating vs. Eating May 17, 2023
    Show notes

Concerns about global warming and greenhouse gas emissions have expanded beyond just energy concerns. Climate scientists are increasingly worried about the negative environmental impacts of farming and livestock production. But do strategies like Meatless Mondays and lab-cultivated meat work?

    The KJ Show #42 – Are Heat Pumps a Double-Edged Sword? May 10, 2023
    Show notes

Heat pumps are a technology that is poised to be front and center in the push for electrification. This energy-efficient HVAC system has been promoted for decades throughout the South, with mixed results. More recently, Air Source heat pumps are proving their capabilities in cold-climate environments in both the US and Europe.
