The 2003 Murder Of Robert Kissel By His Wife Nancy And The 2006 Unsolved Murder Of His Brother Andrew Kissel [Part 3 of 6]
The Kissel boys were born and raised in what we used to think of as the quintessential American family...like something you’d watch on some wholesome sitcom. They were as competitive as they were ambitious and those qualities would take both brothers on their very own, unique successful journeys in life. But the younger of the two, Robert, he always seemed to have a bit of an edge on older brother Andrew...he was taller, more athletic, more popular, more social, friendly...things simply came easier. Robert was the brother who followed the rules...he maneuvered wisely, cautiously, thoughtfully. Andrew preferred the quick and easy...the fastest way to winning, even if it wasn’t exactly the right way. It didn’t matter because getting to the finish line first was the only thing that mattered. The irony is the manner in which both of these brothers would come to meet an equally tragic end...three years and thousands of miles apart in ways and for reasons that, to this day remain mysterious and nearly impossible to reconcile...this is a special vacation series presentation of Killafornia dreaming...the tale of the Kissel Family Curse…

#182 The Tale of California's Very First Insanity Plea [Part 4] May 07, 2021
    Show notes

All William Edward Hickman needed to pick up 12 year old Marion Parker early from Mount Vernon Junior High School one day in December of 1927 was a pleasant personality and a friendly smile. Hickman was not the girl’s father, he was not a relative, he was not a friend of the family...he was a stranger, but he came armed with a fictitious name, Mr. Cooper, and a persuasive story - he told the office secretary, a woman named Naomi Britten, that he was there to pick Marion up because her father had just been in a horrific car accident. He’d been rushed to the hospital and they weren’t sure yet if he was going to pull through. Ms. Britten stood up and walked over to speak to this man. She noted that he was very nicely dressed, he was very polite and well-spoken, though she was pretty worried and concerned for Marion’s dad and whether or not he was going to pull through...she was very preoccupied with that terrible news. She tried to locate the school’s principal, Cora Freeman, but Ms. Britten was kind of frazzled and had a hard time locating any of the school administrators who would be the ones to decide whether or not Marion Parker was to be released from school to this man. Eventually, Ms. Britten found a teacher named Mary Holt, so Ms. Holt came to the office to discuss this matter with this man who called himself Mr. Cooper. He explained to Ms. Holt and Ms. Britten that he was a colleague of Marion’s father over at First National Bank and he offered up the bank’s phone number if they wanted to verify the purpose of his visit to the school and his instructions to pick Marion up. The man was so easy going and relaxed that they two women really didn’t give it a second thought and had Marion brought into the office from class. The man brought himself down to Marion’s level and explained who he was and why he was there. He reassured her that everything was going to be okay and he would take her to see her dad right away. The man walked out of the office and off school grounds with Marion in tow.

#178 The Tale of Aubreyanna Sade Parks Apr 06, 2021
    Show notes

This is the story of a young woman from Southern California who, despite what many people and newspaper articles have to say about her, was still a person who did have hopes and dreams for a better, stable, fulfilling life. She was in her final year in high school. She played softball. She was a cheerleader. She was an excellent student who maintained good grades. She had been accepted to Northern Arizona University and was slated to begin in the fall of 2014 and she would have been the first person in her family to have attended college. She aspired to be an attorney. She was kind. She was beautiful. She was loved. But her final moments in this life were brutal. It was savage. It was bloody. And the monster who did this to her was a wealthy, entitled pile of human garbage and just looking at his ugly face makes me even more sad and angry that THAT was the last thing this poor child had to look at before this monster took her away from this world. And the media didn’t treat her any better...this is a bonus episode because there is heartbreakingly little out there in the media about this young lady...and I clicked on every single article that populated when I googled her beautiful name...this is the tale of Aubreyanna Sade Parks…

#177 The Tale of a Rape of the Mind Mar 28, 2021
    Show notes

This is a story of 3 people whose lives came together when they each followed their dreams to serve this country in the United States Coast Guard. At least one of them dreamed of doing so since childhood. When you join the armed forces, you never really know where in the world you might end up, but wherever that may be, at any given place, at any given time, people from all over the country, possibly from all over the world, cross paths. People from very different backgrounds...many different life experiences...they get randomly thrown together as they embark on their military careers. Relationships develop, bonds form...these people become your family - your brothers and sisters in arms. Today, we are going to take a look at one relationship that formed in the frigid tundra of Kodiak, Alaska...a place where both of these Coast Guardsmen had listed as the last place on earth they wanted to be stationed, yet there they were…and a close friendship was born of it. We are going to see what can happen when people are put together in often times tense and stressful situations, combined with the possibility of a lifelong struggle with mental health issues...in this 177th episode of Killafornia Dreaming...the tale of a Rape of the mind…
