LSU Baseball's Slump The reigning national champion Tigers have indeed struggled recently, dropping four of their last five games. Recent Losses: The skid includes a midweek loss to McNeese State (7-6) and a home series loss to Sacramento State, where they dropped two out of three games. Current Record: Despite the recent slide, LSU remains 12–5 (0–0 SEC) as they prepare for the start of conference play. Following an embarrassing 13-10 loss to Northeastern on Monday, March 2, the Tigers have now dropped two games in a week, including a midweek loss to McNeese State. Despite a late-game rally where the Tigers scored eight runs in the final three innings, the defensive and pitching collapses early in the game proved insurmountable. Key Issues Against Northeastern The loss was marked by a complete breakdown in the early innings, as Northeastern built a 10-0 lead by the third inning. Pitching Struggles: Starter Cooper Williams (0-1) and reliever Zac Cowan struggled significantly, combined allowing eight hits and five earned runs in just 2.2 innings. Defensive Miscues: The Tigers committed 4 errors and several other unrecorded mental mistakes that fueled Northeastern's early scoring. Offensive Slump: While the final score looked competitive due to a late surge, the starting lineup was just 4-for-21 (.190) without an extra-base hit for much of the game. Over the previous three games, the team hit a dismal .165 overall and .083 with runners in scoring position. Current Standing and Outlook Despite the recent struggles, LSU remains one of the top teams in the nation, though they have recently ceded the No. 1 spot in several polls.
