This week we are talking to Sarah Stewart Holland and Beth Silvers, hosts of podcasts Pantsuit Politics and The Nuanced Life and authors of I Think You’re Wrong but I’m Listening: A Guide to Grace Filled Political Conversations. We talk about how to have grace-filled political conversations and why it’s really so important to continue to have them even if we need space or they have some hard moments. Sarah and Beth really have such a unique lens on talking through hard and sticky topics. They are pros at handling divisive topics with others by focusing in on our values and treating each other like thoughtful human beings. These conversations are such great reminders as we head into a new year and an election year. Incredibly thankful for the work that Sarah and Beth do each week!

Episode 17: Lindy Johnson with America’s Kids Belong Dec 18, 2019
    Show notes

Episode 17: Lindy Johnson with America’s Kids Belong

This week we are talking to Lindy Johnson. She is a licensed therapist and trauma care trainer for America’s Kids Belong.

AKB mobilizes government, faith-based, business and creative leaders around the goal of permanency and belonging for every child. Combining grassroots and “grasstops” methods, America’s Kids Belong runs innovative initiatives in states to help ensure that every child is in a loving home by: recruiting more foster and adoptive families, engaging wrap-around support for at-risk, foster and adoptive families along the way, and helping youth who have aged out without a family reach their full potential.

I really enjoyed learning from Lindy during our conversation. We talked about trauma and attachment within the foster care lens. We also talked about some of the initiatives that AKB is involved in! Hearing about these brought so much emotion up for me. Vulnerable children are waiting for families as we speak and the work that AKB does to bring these children permanency is so very needed.

I know that this week isn’t a light hearted easy listen. This week will challenge you. BUT I know that this week will educate you and encourage you to speak out for the vulnerable around you.
