Furness Show 8-1: PJ Walker, Corbin Smith, Brandon Funston. Aug 01, 2024
Show notes PJ Walker, Seahawks QB sits down with Ian and discusses his experience in Seattle so far, his family and the process they've gone through in coming out here with a new baby. He breaks down the Seahawks QB room, the wide receiving group and tells us why DK Metcalf is as good as he is. The Blue Angels just never get old, no matter how many times we see them. Mitch Garver has not been good this year, but the fan feedback is clearly weighing on him. We hear what he had to say after the game last night. People hide behind screens to say vile things, and while absolutely not condoning it, Ian's advice is to look away. The fans are going to get behind him now. Corbin Smith, Locked on Seahawks tells Ian what he could see from yesterday's unique walkthrough. He looks at fringe guys by position groups, as well as depth in the defensive backfield. Bold declaration: Corbin thinks the wide receiver room is done and Dee Eskridge is the one on the outside looking in. We get back to Mitch Garver's comments from last night, where he says he won't let his play on the field dictate who he is as a person. While his offense is unacceptable, he's a more a more than adequate backup catcher. Regardless of his play, he doesn't deserve the vitriol he's seen. Geno Smith is out of practice again today. The Canadian men's and women's ice hockey teams got docked 6 points for flying a drone over their opponents' practices. When coaches and administrators make mistakes, it's the players that end up paying the price. Brandon Funston, The Athletic joins to launch the unofficial start to the weekend! He tells us what the new super flex rule does to leagues and why it makes quarterbacks the most important players. Plus, what does he look for in a keeper?

Furness Show 7-31: Laviska Shenault, Gregg Bell, Curtis Crabtree and Tim Booth. Jul 31, 2024
Show notes Laviska Shenault, Seahawks WR sits down with Ian to talk about his path to football, why he gave up basketball and what he's making out of this opportunity with Seattle. Plus, he breaks down the new kickoff rules, as that's where he's most likely to contribute. There's a crowded wide receivers room this season and special teams will help sort out who makes the roster. The Mariners have played some pretty poor defensive teams this season and have taken advantage of it. We take a listen to what Jerry Dipoto had to say yesterday regarding the trade deadline, the moves they made, as well as Julio and JP's health. Ian applauds what they did at the deadline. What are your favorite moves the Mariners made at the deadline? The Olympics are underway and we discuss the best parts of the games. It takes a special love of the game to compete on that level, for the most part, when not being highly compensated. Gregg Bell pops by to tell us what he's seeing in the Seahawks 't-shirt' practice we're watching. Mike Macdonald gave a rundown on training camp so far as the team approaches preseason. He tells us what he's seen on both sides of the ball and where he sees growth to date. The Seahawks are in a different looking practice today, where players are working on the learning side of things. Curtis Crabtree and Tim Booth sit down for a little Seahawks round table to tell us what they're seeing out here at camp today. They discuss future projections for the NFL Hall of Fame, as there are going to be a large contingent of Seahawks to be voted on in the near future. The guys also discuss what Mike Macdonald's defense will look like in an ever-evolving league. Finally, who has staying power of all 90 guys out here?

Furness Show 7-29: Michael Jackson, MollyWhop Monday, Ian Rapoport, Tyler Lockett Jul 29, 2024
    Show notes Headlines!
Michael Jackson, Seahawks CB sits down with Ian to discuss new training camp under Mike Macdonald, what motivates him and why he doesn't mind a full cornerback room, despite the competition. He gives us an evaluation of Geno Smith this season so far, as well as why he thinks he looks so comfortable right now.
We're hearing a lot more from Marshawn Lynch these days than we ever did during his playing days. Ian misses the air of mystery that used to surround him. It's not fair to compare Sam Howell to Geno Smith, mostly because the offense is built around Geno.
Following the Ty France move, we dive into some potential scenarios at first base for the Mariners the rest of this season. With just over a day to go for the trade deadline, what moved should we expect?
Mollywhop Monday! Chris Crawford and Nathan Bishop join Ian as we JUST learned the Mariners have made another move in trading for Justin Turner. What are our reasonable expectations for Turner when he joins the team? Why are the Blue Jays dealing with the Mariners so much?
Mollywhop Continues! The Mariners haven't moved any headliners in their most recent deals - is a blockbuster on the horizon? Randy Arozarena certainly has the potential to be an impact player, but the guys want to see it on the field. Finally, who are the untouchables?
Ian Rapoport, NFL Network joins Ian for a live sit down at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center. He wasn't surprised Mike Macdonald got a head coaching job and gives his thoughts on the end of the Pete Carroll era. Macdonald inherited a very talented roster as well.
Tyler Lockett spoke at Seahawks camp today and we take a listen into the veteran's press conference. He discusses the differences we'll see in the offense, as well as the defense. He also talks about his tenth year in the league and what he expects from himself.

Furness Show 7-26: Kenny McIntosh, Mollywhop Monday, Brian Nemhauser, Danny O'Neill. Jul 26, 2024
Show notes Kenny McIntosh, Seahawks RB sits down with Ian to talk about his comeback from injury, what Ryan Grubb brings and where he sees himself on the field this season. Some trickery might be in play with this offense. Was the Angels' sweep of the Mariners the best thing to happen to them? Ian likes the sense of urgency it created to potentially force Seattle to make a move. We are extremely excited about the signing of Randy Arozarena. We hear from Mark Tomkin who told Gregg Bell all about him earlier today. The Seahawks reacquired Marquis Blair, who embodies the type of player with whom Seattle wants to set the tone. Emergency MollyWhop! The Mariners made a move! Chris Crawford and Nathan Bishop join Ian to talk about the acquisition of Randy Arozarena. All signs point to positivity right now, which is a new tone for this segment. Despite his slow start to this season, he's proven himself late in seasons. Nate and Chris are both thrilled right now. Brian Nemhauser, HawkBlogger sits down with Ian to talk about what he's seeing under Mike Macdonald, what resigning Marquis Blair tells him and the ceiling for this team. Brian stays around to tell us what he sees the defense looks like under Macdonald, as well as one standout player who might be flying under the radar. Danny O'Neil, The Dang Apostrophe joins Ian to talk about everything from Seahawks training camp to the Mariners latest moves. He also gives his take on what it looks like for Washington in the Big 10 this year. Given the choice, Danny would choose the Pac-12.

Furness Show 7-25: Laken Tomlinson, Hugh Millen, Corbin Smith. Jul 25, 2024
Show notes Laken Tomlinson, Seahawks G sits down with Ian to talk about joining the Seahawks and what it'll be like to have Seattle energy on his side, as opposed to what he's experienced at Lumen Field so far. He also maintains his dedication to becoming a doctor and building a hospital in Jamaica. He also gives us an inside look at Coach Huff and what he expects from his unit. Hugh Millen is live out here at Seahawks training camp and tells us the differences he's seeing so far under Mike Macdonald. The atmosphere isn't that different from an observer perspective, but he's extremely impressed with the new defensive scheme he's seeing - and that's what Hugh sees as the biggest change. Finally, his take on what the Mariners need to do right now.
The difference between the Seahawks and the Mariners is that there is no complacency out here at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center. Nathan Bishop sent us some stats regarding Julio Rodriguez and Jesse Winker - and it makes us want to tear out our hair. The offense continues to be dismal and great pitching is still being wasted. What can we reasonably expect at the trade deadline? Ian wants to see them actually take a shot for once. The new kickoff rules are creating quite a lot of secrecy as we kick things off. Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald spoke after practice yesterday and we take a listen to what he had to say at the beginning of his first Seattle training camp. Abe Lucas is still out Can what happens in the next five games change the future of the Mariners organization? Ian sees this next week is the most pivotal in franchise history? Corbin Smith, Locked on Seahawks joins Ian out at camp and it extremely impressed with Geno Smith's arm talent, and has been from the start. That was never in question, and he's clearly matured since his days in New York. From a comfort level, Corbin gives him 10/10. It also helps that he gets his entire receiving core back, which is extremely deep. Corbin gives Jake Bobo a 95% chance of making the roster and the guys discuss who might be on outside looking in. Of all the positions where we will see moves - whether it be through cuts or trades - corner will have the most talented players part ways.

Furness Show 7-24: Dre'Mont Jones, Seahawks Training Camp, Gregg Bell, Stewart Mandel. Jul 24, 2024
Show notes Dre'Mont Jones, Seahawks DE joins Ian live to discuss the changes in the coaching staff, his versatility, and what he expects to accomplish this season. Ian jinxed the Mariners last night. However, the results of the game are just a microcosm of the team right now. Implosion showed up in the midst of a bad slump. Polanco had a chance to change the narrative but didn't come through. Are they at rock bottom, while being in first place? What do you want to know about the Seahawks in advance of this season? We are live at Seahawks training camp and Ian gives his observations. What does Sam Howell look like and how could we compare him to Michael Penix Jr.? We take training camp questions from listeners. Gregg Bell joins Ian to discuss what he's seeing on the first day of training camp and shares some of his observations from the first day we're seeing the team on the field together. How will the offensive line look this year? Plus, with a new offense, everyone's at square one, so all are learning together. Stewart Mandel, The Athletic joins Ian to give us the latest on conference realignment, the future of the 'Pac-2' and whether we're looking ahead to larger changes in the future. Plus, are rivalries still going to exist?

Furness Show 7-23: Mariners, Joe Sheehan and Andrew Marchand Jul 23, 2024
    Show notes

Last night was a heartbreaker for the Mariners, and it seems as though Scott Servais is losing the guys he could lean on, the most recent being Ty France. We hear from Scott Servais' postgame last night, and the tension is palpable. Ian took a gander at social media last night and wants to know why people are so angry at the Mariners - not because they don't deserve to be - but he truly wants to know what the fans are truly passionate about right now. Anders, Jess and Ian share their thoughts on what's making them angry with the Mariners right now. Joe Sheehan, The Joe Sheehan Newsletter joins to break down exactly what's going on with the Mariners, specifically to react to what Scott Servais had to say last night. Joe is surprised they parted ways with Ty France, who was third on the team in OBP. Ian thinks France is a scapegoat for all that's going wrong. What can the team do right now? Mariners fans are releasing their frustration on our airwaves, and we let them run with it. Andrew Marchand, The Athletic joins the show to talk about the future of NBA broadcasts on TNT and whether we'll continue to see the greatest studio show on television in the future. He also helps us keep a realistic view of NBA expansion in Seattle. When will we see the Sonics return?

Furness Show 7-22: Molly Whop Monday, Ty France Placed on Waivers, NBA Broadcast Rights. Jul 22, 2024
    Show notes

The gang is all back together! Jess and Ian are back from time off and we thank Anders and Chris Crawford for holding down the fort. We discuss the travel fiascos and wedding happiness. Ian went to the Mariners game yesterday and noticed how many Astros fans were in the stands. Happy for the win! The Mariners host the Angels tonight and the Astros play the A's. The Mariners have what looks like an easy schedule over the next two series, so what's an acceptable outcome? The CW has it's new broadcast crew and Ian sees it as a retread of the Pac-12 Network. Mollywhop Monday! Chris Crawford and Nathan Bishop join Ian to discuss the Mariners' standings right now. Jorge Polanco has been on the upswing, will that continue? What is reasonable for an expectation for the next two series? Mollywhop Monday continues with Chris Crawford and Nathan Bishop! What do we make of the Ty France move? The Mariners did make a move, bringing up Jason Vosler - so what does this tell us about potential moves? What's next for the TNT basketball broadcast and will fans be deprived of the best show on earth? Plus, who is actually a starter on the Seahawks of the young group next season?
