Furness Show 8-15: Corbin Smith, Emergency Molly Whop, Brandon Funston. Aug 15, 2024
    Show notes

The Trail Blazers are leaving ROOT Sports, and Ian sees a demise of sports consumption for the fan. Corbin Smith, Locked on Seahawks joins us with the latest roster observations on the Seahawks. He has a new comparison for Byron Murphy and it's not one you've heard before. He's still surprised he dropped out of the top ten in the draft and marvels at how well it worked to John Schneider's benefit. Corbin takes us through the prospective depth chart. Next week is a big one for Abe Lucas. The Mariners just got swept by the Tigers and fall three games behind the Astros in the AL West. Things are not looking good. Chris Crawford, My Oh Why and Nathan Bishop of Dome and Bedlam join us and are simply exhausted by the ineptitude they've seen through this series - but also over the last nine years. They give us quite an honest review of the most recent performances. A sweep is a must for them heading into Pittsburgh. We hear from Scott Servais following the crapfest we saw in Detroit. We lighten things up with some fun audio from George Kittle, who takes some shots at the collective media. Brandon Funston, The Athletic Fantasy Guru joins us to kick off the unofficial start of the weekend! Today we run down the wide receiving group as you get ready to draft your roster!

Furness Show 8-14: Gary Hill, Steve Palazzolo, Gregg Bell. Aug 14, 2024
    Show notes

Wow, the Mariners really took it on the chin last night - how long do you watch in a beating like that? Julio had a hit, but he looked uncomfortable on the basepaths. We have questions about his health right now. Also, Jamal Adams continues being exactly who we thought he was, and he showed it in joint practice between the Seahawks and the Titans. Gary Hill, Mariners Broadcaster joins us following a rough 15-1 loss for the Mariners. How quickly can they flush that one? Plus, how bad were things for Julio last night as it looked as though he was laboring on the base paths? Gary fills us in on the more modern way of bringing guys back from injuries, as we were all surprised Julio didn't get a rehab assignment before returning. Finally, a look at the recent Robles signing. Who are the Mariners right now? It's hard to tell with the current ups and downs. Steve Palazzolo, The 33rd Team joins us for the first of many visits he'll have with us this football season. He discusses his new role and what he's looking forward to doing there. Steve is in Nashville and gives his insights from the Seahawks' joint practice with the Titans. We take a listen to Mike Macdonald following Seahawks joint practice. Coach Macdonald was pretty honest about what he could pay attention to during joint practice today, where he was focused on the defense today. Plus, Riq Woolen could have a bounce back like we've never seen before. Gregg Bell is in Tennessee live at the Seahawks' joint practices with the Titans and he joins us to give us some insight on how it's going. Gregg takes us through some personnel notes, from those who sat out of practice and who is standing out to him. Jamal Adams continues to be what we expect him to be. There are some surprise names Gregg is seeing rise.

Furness Show 8-13: Victor Robles Deal, Joe Sheehan, Daily Power Play, Mike Morris. Aug 13, 2024
    Show notes

Julio got thrown into the fire without a rehab assignment - why? Is Victor Robles' most recent performance sustainable? His contract is extremely club friendly, so why didn't he bet on himself? Has your opinion of Mariners ownership and the front office changed over the last few weeks? Ian applauds them for filling out their outfield. Steven Souza evaluated the Victor Robles deal and while he applauds Dipoto for getting it done, it's also a bit of a stretch considering his career numbers. He tells us the perspective from both the player and club side. A listener posed the question whether we'd like Jared Kelenic or Victor Robles right now, and we'd all take Robles. Plus, over in the NFL, we give the latest on the Brandon Aiyuk rumors. Joe Sheehan, The Joe Sheehan Newsletter joins us to react to the Mariners signing Victor Robles to an extension, where they stand in their ability to make the post-season and why there's less value in getting the top seeds right now. However, a first round bye is ideal. Julio Rodriguez didn't get a rehab assignment prior to rejoining the team and it begs the question 'why'? Steven Souza joined Softy and Hugh yesterday and gave an inside perspective on why that was a bad choice. Sometimes the player needs to be protected from himself. The Daily Power Play! We had too many great moments out at Seahawks training camp and one of our favorite interviews was with Seahawks defensive end, Mike Morris. We revisit the best part of that conversation where he takes us inside this time of year.

Chris Crawford and Nathan Bishop join us to react to the Mariners three game sweep of the Mets. MollyWhop continues as the guys discuss what's next for the Mariners as they head to Detroit - and into the end of summer. The Olympics this year showed us a side of sports Ian hasn't seen in a long time. It brought back some pride with the emotion seen. What we've seen the last few weeks was the best of sports.

    Show notes

We are live from Snoqualmie Ridge! The Mariners won last night in unprecedented fashion and Mitch Haniger totally redeemed himself with a walkoff! There are reasons to be excited about tomorrow's Seahawks preseason game. Joe Sheehan, The Joe Sheehan Newsletter joins us to give an inside look at the Mariners' next opponent as the Mets come to visit. Joe explains why he found this year's trade deadline 'incoherent' across the board. Joe breaks down the path to the playoffs for Seattle, while acknowledging the 'post-mortem' if they don't make the postseason wouldn't be difficult to diagnose. Mike Morris discussed Coach Macdonald's messages to the team throughout this preseason. He's preaching violence. Rob Rang, CBS Sports tells us what to expect during Seahawks preseason game 1, the outliers who could make their way onto the roster and the biggest things to watch for tomorrow against the Chargers. He gives some good insight into what's new with the Seahawks right now. He also talks about his new endeavors. Finally, he weighs in on the transition from Pete Carroll to Mike Macdonald. Bill Withee, Emerald Downs joins to give us a preview of the historic race happening this Sunday and why Five Star General is the favorite. Plus some dark horses in the races this weekend. Danny O'Neil, The Dang Apostrophe joins us to give us his thoughts on what joint practices would look like during the Seahawks' heyday and their Super Bowl era. Danny is amused by the faux outrage generated from training camp fights. Danny tells us what stood out most to him during Pete Carroll's time - and aggression on defense was huge.

Furness Show 8-8: Mike Morris, Corbin Smith, Brandon Funston. Aug 08, 2024
    Show notes

Ian is sick of people blaming DK Metcalf for training camp fights, especially because we had an unobstructed view of what happened. DK tried to walk away from Tre Brown several times during the scrap yesterday. Mike Morris, Seahawks DE sits down to give us a realistic view of the skirmishes we saw yesterday and what the message was from Mike Macdonald. The new head coach preaches violence in the game, but also brings the team together in brotherhood. Morris says it's not a big deal - it's football. Are DK Metcalf's penalties an issue for the Seahawks? Ian gives you stats that prove to him that they're not, but what do the fans think? Corbin Smith, Locked on Seahawks joins us as we see a lighter practice taking place out here in training camp day number 14. The skirmishes we saw yesterday aren't anything new when it comes to football. Corbin welcomes it, as the Seahawks have been missing it in recent years. Corbin gives us his players to keep an eye on as we enter preseason. It's about time to talk about the baseball game last night, as much as we might not want to right now. The Seahawks are having a light practice right in front of us, which is a far cry from the physical, padded practice we saw yesterday. Brandon Funston, The Athletic kicks off the unofficial start to the weekend! He opens up the fantasy season with his top picks, takes questions from listeners and discusses the best running backs available right now.

Furness Show 8-7: Easop Winston, Curtis Crabtree, Jamey Vinnick. Aug 07, 2024
Show notes Easop Winston Jr., Seahawks WR joins Ian live at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center and discusses his path to the NFL, what his family has done for him to get him to this place, playing for Mike Leach and what Mike Macdonald offers as a head coach. Plus, Ryan Grubb as an offensive coordinator, his role this year and what it was like playing with Gardner Minshew. The Seahawks sign a new center in Connor Williams to a 1-year contract, which doesn't bode well for anyone at that position here right now. The Mariners lost yesterday, and Ian feels there is misplaced blame on Scott Servais. Kickoff returns remain an unknown with the new rules. Curtis Crabtree, FOX 13 sits down with Ian for some roster roulette. He and Ian dive deep into each position group, both deep and thin, to tell you what this final 53 could look like. Plus, who is on the bubble and who might surprise us this preseason and who's on the outside looking in? Finally, the guys give their locks. Anders takes us through some stats that show Scott Servais wasn't to blame for the Mariners loss last night. The Daily Power Play! How much pressure is on the Kraken front office right now? We ask the fans, per The Athletic. Jamey Vinnick, CougFan.com gives us an update from the Palouse, where the Cougs are preparing in the heat. Ian needs to get past the Cam Ward era, and Jamey tells us why he's ranked the preseason number one quarterback in the ACC. As we watch a few skirmishes at Seahawks practice, Jamey isn't seeing that at WSU. Jamey also gives us some roster predictions for the Cougs.

Furness Show 8-6: Tyrice Knight, Jayson Stark, Chris Francis. Aug 06, 2024
Show notes Tyrice Knight, Seahawks LB joins Ian to talk about his rookie experience, training camp and learning the new system. He describes his first experiences in the NFL, the coaches he leans on and being ready to play some real football. Byron Murphy could have a significant impact as a rookie this year. We take a listen to what he had to say to the media yesterday. Ian tells you what's stood out to him at training camp so far, digging into the depth chart just a bit. Jayson Stark, The Athletic joins Ian to break down the Mariners' moves at the trade deadline. He was impressed by the fact they didn't give up too much to get what they did, staying disciplined in the process. He also dives into what each of the acquisitions adds. He discusses what the AL West looks like and Seattle's best chances to lock it up. Finally, will the White Sox make history as the worst team of modern times this year? How different is the Mariners' clubhouse right now? Anders was there this weekend and fills us in. We hope Mitch Garver doesn't tap out for the rest of the season, as he seemed to imply last week. The Daily Power Play with Mike Benton! Chris Francis, FOX 13 joins Ian to talk about his new role with the station and getting back in the swing of things. Taking a step back for a bit gave him a different perspective of what the fan expectation is for the Seahawks this year. There are a lot of questions heading into this season, which is reason for excitement, but also a bit of anxiety. Finally, Chris sees the Mariners as a .500 baseball team, and not much more.

Furness Show 8-5: Brady Russell, Molly Whop Monday, Mike MacDonald Audio. Aug 06, 2024
    Show notes

Happy Monday folks. Did you know we're giving away a grill? The Mariners took two of three from the Phillies and we are thrilled that they continue to fight, Saturday night being one of the biggest examples. We are live from the Virginia Mason Athletic Center and fill you in on what we're seeing. As we watch DK Metcalf interact with the fans out here at training camp, Ian notes that he might be the most mis-characterized player on the current team. He's the only real 'superstar' right now, and his interactions on the field and off with the fans show us an amazing athlete and human. Brady Russell, Seahawks TE joins Ian to talk about his role with the Seahawks, why he loves Mike Macdonald and the versatility he maintains to remain 'uncuttable'. The Olympics are underway and the athleticism of the athletes can't be overstated. Mollywhop Monday! Chris Crawford and Nathan Bishop join to break down the week that was for the Mariners - and we are pretty happy about it, especially after seeing what they did to fight back in Saturday night's game. Mollywhop continues as the guys react to what the Mariners did at the trade deadline. Anders has a point of contention when it comes to a bit of the Mollywhop. It's been a gorgeous day at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center, but Ian admits the weekend tired him out more than rested him. Totally worth it though. Jim Harbaugh responded to some allegations recently and it was classic. Finally, we hear from Mike Macdonald after practice today.

Furness Show 8-2: Jarran Reed, John Kincade, Jake Dickert and Danny O'Neil Aug 02, 2024
    Show notes

Jarran Reed, Seahawks DE sits down with Ian to give an inside look at what the new look Seahawks have to offer, especially while learning this new defense. Although he admits he's a veteran now, he in no way feels 'old' at 31. Ian is live at VMAC and sets the scene to let everyone know what's going on out at camp. We take a listen to Mike Macdonald from yesterday, who lets us know what's going on with Geno Smith, more injury updates and what the walk-through practice brought into yesterday. Jake Dickert has a message for his team and we take a listen to what he said at practice. John Kincade, The Fanatic in Philadelphia joins us to give an inside look at what's going on with the Phillies as they head to town to face the Mariners. He discusses what fans have done in Philly for players who were struggling, in context with what Mitch Garver is going through right now. Jake Dickert, Washington State HC jumps on with Ian to talk about what camp has looked like this year, where he's seen growth within his staff and the latest in the quarterback competition. The offensive line returns five guys with starting experience, which is a solid sign. He also discusses the veterans who have come back and the leadership he sees within. Geno Smith isn't practicing for the third day in a row, but no major concerns as we know the team won't be rushing him back. Danny O'Neil, The Dang Apostrophe joins to discuss Mitch Garver and his recent comments. What crosses the line in sports criticism? UW is officially in the Big 10 today and he shares his thoughts. While he likes seeing the Huskies on the map, he's still sad about the loss of the Pac-12.
