Every year, we love to celebrate the holiday season with our listeners, and there is no better way to do that than with our 2023 Holiday Special!
It all started 9 years ago with a random idea: we were big fans of holiday specials, yet podcasts seemed to skip over the idea completely. Therefore, we decided we can do whatever we want here at The Hollywood Outsider, so let's create our own tradition and the Annual Holiday Special was born!
Every year we rekindle the past (and occasionally add a little something new), assembling some of the best moments from our hosts for the most fantastic holiday special ever! Debating what constitutes a Christmas movie and specials we love, what makes for a great Christmas movie, Christmas cliches we love, and bringing back Recasting the Classics with a look at how we would remake National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation!
That's not all, oh no. The Christmas spirit kicks into overdrive as we open up and share our personal memories of the holiday season, stories that remind us of Christmas. And no holiday special would be complete without a visit from the big man himself, so get ready for as much St. Nick as legally allowed as Santa Claus drops by the studio to tell us just how naughty or nice we are, all throughout the episode!
With a special game from Amanda, Santa in his sleigh, John's obsession with puppets, Scott's first Christmas Poem, and a lot of fun for everyone – This is the one podcast you don't want to miss this holiday season!
On this episode of The Hollywood Outsider podcast, it's the time of year where we all celebrate what we are thankful for, and for many of us, that is entertainment. Therefore, we get a little personal and take a look at some of the movies and TV shows that have truly impacted us, that we are very thankful for. What movies or TV are you most thankful for?
Also on this episode, the SAG-AFTRA strike is over, so we discuss the details of their deal. We review Taika Waititi's latest film, Next Goal Wins, and then dive into our spoiler review of The Marvels, where we dissect exactly what went right and wrong with Marvel's newest super-team. Is it a return to form for the MCU, or a colossal miss? You might be surprised with our take...
Discussed on this episode:On this episode of The Hollywood Outsider podcast, we take a look at why we as a society are so impacted by celebrity deaths such as Matthew Perry. For many, they are like family to us, though it is often hard to explain why.
Also on this episode, we discuss an expose that shed a light on Marvel's recent struggles and what that means for Disney and the MCU, plus the discovery that HBO's Casey Bloys has been having employees troll TV critics over unfavorable reviews. As well as spoiler-free reviews of It's a Wonderful Knife and The Marsh King's Daughter.
Best yet, we conclude this week's podcast with an interview with Carnivale creator Daniel Knauf as he discusses that show's 20th anniversary and his hopes for a revival, his stellar work on The Blacklist, his long career in Hollywood, and most importantly: his exciting new project, Gingerland, intended for families around the world. Daniel is as genuine a person as he is a talent, and this is a fascinating interview you won't want to miss!

On this episode of The Hollywood Outsider podcast, there has much ado lately about film critics: how genuine are the reviews, should outside influences interfere with a review, how much studios interfere, etc. Well, this week, due to a recent onslaught of activity over an Amber Heard review for In the Fire, we are taking this topic head-on.
Also this week, our spoiler-free reviews of Martin Scorsese's epic, Killers of the Flower Moon, SAG takes on Halloween costumes, Daniel Radcliffe creates a documentary on his former stuntman, and much more!
Discussed on this episode:On this episode of The Hollywood Outsider podcast, we devote our entire episode to one topic: the history of movie theaters. From the sound to the implementation of color the eruptions of TV to blockbusters to ratings to streaming, and on and on. Movie theaters have lasted for over 100 years, and it's time to hop into our time machine and pay some respects to, as Martin Scorsese would say, cinema. Also, we take a look at recent events such as Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, and how that might change the movie theater experience yet again.

On this episode of The Hollywood Outsider podcast, The Exorcist has returned to theaters after a long break, and we have to ask: are demonic possession movies even still scary? Does this notion of an otherworldly force occupying our bodies work in a cynically jaded society? Do your personal beliefs amplify or decrease your fear? It's an intriguing discussion as we take out the crucifix and take a jab at this topic.
Also this week, our spoiler-free reviews of Amber Heard's return to film with In the Fire, as well as Prime's Totally Killer, streaming prices are due for another hike, and we play another round of our game: How Do You Survive with a timed theme. All this and more!
Discussed on this episode:On this episode of The Hollywood Outsider podcast, we take a look at more of these tired franchises that keep popping back up. Sure, Saw X was well-received while Expendables 4 wasn't, but did we even need to get to this point? When IS a good time to end a franchise? Also, are we - the fans - truly the problem?
Also this week, our spoiler-free reviews take a look at both Netflix's The Fall of the House of Usher, out October 12th, and The Creator, in theaters now. We dive into why you should not sleep on either property this Fall. All this and more!
Discussed on this episode:Russell Brand, Kevin Spacey, Bill Cosby, Mila Kunis, Drew Barrymore, and so many more. Entertainers have been accused of a variety of things over the years, with many on the internet screaming they should be cancelled or never work again. Therefore, we decided now was a perfect time to launch into a deeper discussion on separating the art from the artist. Why is it easier for some than others to separate these elements, and is anyone ever actually right when it's their own personal choice? This is our main topic this week, and it's a heavy one.
Also this week, the WGA strike is finally over and we've got the details, plus an Office reboot looms just over the horizon. All this and more on a new episode of The Hollywood Outsider podcast!
