The Delta, Ep. 5: Prescriptive - Use the Vaccine Power-ups! Aug 04, 2021

Show notes

Continuing with the theme of Mario Bros 3, Nicholas Linke compares science to a question mark block (box) that investigates our curiosities. But what would science put in a suggestion box?
This episode focuses on honestly making that distinction between prescriptive and descriptive language. To understand what science advises us to do with all the information and tools it gives us, we might have to look to those that write the player manuals.

The Delta, Ep. 4: Pragmatism - The Truth about Mario Jul 28, 2021

Show notes

Nicholas Linke uses Mario Bros. 3 to argue that science is less about absolute Truth and more about usefulness. With an analogy of Raccoon Tails and Frog Suits, he draws a parallel between the pragmatics that science provides when politics prescribes behaviors that utilize our power-ups of vaccines and masks to beat this Delta variant.
