    129. The Thousand Tiny Resentments That Kill Intimacy | When Love Isn’t the Problem, Part 2 Sep 30, 2026
    Show notes

Part 2 of the When Love Isn’t the Problem Marriage Series

Sometimes marriage doesn’t grow distant because of one dramatic betrayal.

Sometimes it happens one tiny resentment at a time.

    The sigh.
    The unfinished task.
    The comment about money.
The promise that never gets followed through on.
The moment you ask for help and immediately regret asking.

Individually, these things can seem small. But when they keep piling up without repair, they start to mean something bigger:

    Can I depend on you?
Do you care about what matters to me?
    Are my needs a burden?
Are we really on the same team?

In Episode 129, we’re talking about how resentment quietly builds, how it affects emotional and physical intimacy, and how to deal with the “little things” before they become a wall between two people who genuinely love each other.

    Inside this episode, we explore:

    • why resentment is often grief wearing armor
    • the difference between what happened and the meaning you attached to it
    • how resentment and overfunctioning feed each other
    • how to tell if you truly let something go—or just kept the receipt
    • why emotional disengagement can look peaceful while creating distance
    • how to communicate hurt without attacking your spouse’s character
    • what biblical forgiveness does—and does not—mean
    • why healthy marriages are not perfect; they are repairable

If you’re married, listen together and use this as an invitation—not ammunition.

If you’re single, this can help you recognize conflict patterns, overfunctioning, resentment, and communication habits before entering a future relationship.

If you’ve been through divorce, this can help you process what you learned, identify what belongs to you to heal, and carry greater wisdom into future relationships.

    128. When Intimacy Starts to Feel Like a Chore | When Love Isn’t the Problem, Part 1 Sep 23, 2026
    Show notes

Part 1 of the When Love Isn’t the Problem Marriage Series

What happens when you genuinely love your spouse, enjoy being with them, still laugh together, cuddle, travel well together, and want closeness… but physical intimacy suddenly feels exhausting?

Like one more thing on the list.

That is the very personal question that opened the door to this brand-new marriage series, When Love Isn’t the Problem.

In this episode, I’m sharing honestly from my own marriage and from patterns I continue to see in the counseling room. Because sometimes the problem isn’t that love is gone.

Sometimes love is still very much there—but resentment, exhaustion, unresolved conflict, pressure, overfunctioning, financial stress, or years of small relational disappointments have quietly begun pressing the brakes on intimacy.

And if we only keep asking, “How do we get the spark back?” we may completely miss the more important question:

    What keeps pressing the brakes?

Using the simple picture of desire having both an accelerator and brakes, we’ll look underneath the surface of marital intimacy and explore why date nights, vacations, romance, and affection may not be enough when deeper relational issues remain unresolved.

In this episode, we talk about:

    • The difference between losing love and feeling relationally exhausted
    • Why intimacy can begin to feel like “one more person needing something from me”
    • The emotional impact of repeated grumbling, criticism, unfinished responsibilities, and unresolved conflict
    • Why the “little things” in marriage are often not little at all
    • How overfunctioning can quietly turn into resentment
    • Why affection can start feeling like pressure when every touch seems to carry an expectation
    • The difference between an apology and genuine repair
    • How to identify the relational cycle instead of simply deciding who the villain is
    • What Philippians 2 teaches us about humility, service, and even the spirit with which we care for one another
    • Seven practical questions to help you understand what may be happening underneath your own intimacy struggles
    • The Accelerator + Brakes Exercise you can use with your spouse this week

This is not an episode about blaming husbands.

It is not an episode about blaming wives.

And it is certainly not about using Scripture to pressure one another.

It is an invitation for both spouses to become curious, honest, humble, and willing to ask:

What is happening in me? What belongs to me? What is happening between us? And what might God be inviting us to repair?

Because sometimes physical disconnection is simply where emotional disconnection becomes impossible to keep ignoring.

And maybe the goal isn’t to force more intimacy.

Maybe the first step is understanding what has made intimacy feel difficult in the first place.

Because sometimes marriages don’t become disconnected through one enormous betrayal.

Sometimes it happens through the sighs, the eye rolls, the unfinished tasks, the comments about money, the broken promises, and all the little moments that were never truly repaired.

    And those little things?

They may not be little at all.

    127. Watch Your Walk, Not the Outcome Sep 16, 2026
    Show notes

What if the reason you’re exhausted isn’t because you’re doing too little—but because you’re carrying outcomes God never asked you to control?

In Episode 127, “Watch Your Walk, Not the Outcome: When Faithfulness Matters More Than Doing More,” we’re diving into Ephesians 5:15–21 and asking some deeply personal questions:

    Where am I walking?
What outcome am I trying to control?
What is filling and influencing me?

This episode came out of a season of real conviction in my own life—conviction about productivity, overfunctioning, control, discernment, and the temptation to measure faithfulness by results.

But Scripture doesn’t tell us to watch the outcome.

    It tells us:

“Look carefully then how you walk.”

    That changes everything.

In this episode, I unpack what it means to walk wisely, redeem the time without turning your life into one giant productivity contest, understand God’s will without demanding certainty, and surrender the results of your obedience back to Him.

    And we get very practical.

Using the Happy Kid Toolkit and Reality Mat, I’ll show you how to recognize when you’ve stepped into:

Helpless Baby: “Nothing is working. Why bother?”
Bossy Helper: “I need to fix this, fix them, and make everybody okay.”
Blaming Bully: “If you would change, then I could be okay.”

And then how to move back toward healthier, Spirit-led responsibility through Happy Kid, Caring Friend, and Respectful Leader.

One of the biggest truths I want you to carry from this episode is this:

Obedience belongs to me. Outcomes belong to God.

You do not have to manage every person, solve every problem, guarantee every result, or squeeze every possible ounce of productivity out of your day to be faithful.

Sometimes the next faithful step is simply the one right in front of you.

    126. When the Ship Breaks Apart: Trusting God With the Outcome Sep 09, 2026
    Show notes

There are seasons when the thing we thought would carry us suddenly starts breaking apart.

    The relationship changes.
The child makes choices we never expected.
The ministry doesn’t grow the way we hoped.
The business doesn’t produce the fruit we imagined.
    The door doesn’t open.
    The plan falls apart.

And somewhere in the middle of it, we start asking:

God, did I hear You wrong?

That is exactly where Acts 27 met me.

I’ve read through the Bible year after year, and yet this chapter stopped me like I had never seen it before. Paul is headed toward Rome—exactly where God said he would go—and still the journey becomes violent, uncertain, and completely out of his control.

    The winds are against him.

The sailors lose their ability to navigate.

    They begin throwing cargo overboard.

Eventually, they lose the ship itself.

And yet God never loses Paul.

That is the truth I could not get away from:

The ship was destroyed. The promise wasn’t.

In this episode, I’m walking you through Acts 27 and some of the questions the Lord has been pressing into my own heart:

What “ship” am I confusing with God’s promise?

What cargo am I carrying because I’m afraid of what will happen if I put it down?

Where am I confusing stewardship with control?

Where am I requiring visible fruit to reassure me that I’ve been faithful?

And maybe the most important question of all:

What do I know about God when I can no longer see the stars?

I get very personal in this episode about my own struggle with productivity, doing enough, ministry outcomes, and the temptation to believe that if something God has placed in my hands is truly from Him, it should automatically “work.”

But Acts 27 challenges that thinking.

Sometimes the headwinds do not mean you are going the wrong way.

Sometimes the gentle south wind does not mean you are going the right way.

And sometimes the thing falling apart is not evidence that God has abandoned you.

Maybe it is simply the ship.

One of the most freeing distinctions I’m learning in this season is the difference between stewardship and control.

    I can love my children.

    I cannot control their choices.

    I can counsel faithfully.

    I cannot produce repentance.

I can build, create, invite, market, teach, and serve.

    I cannot manufacture growth.

    I can plant.

    I can water.

    God gives the growth.

And maybe some of the heaviest cargo we are carrying is responsibility God never actually assigned to us.

If you are in a season where you cannot see how things are going to work out—if you feel like the stars have disappeared, the storm has gone on far too long, or the ship you trusted is beginning to break apart—I hope this episode reminds you of something deeper than your circumstances:

The condition of your ship is not the measure of God’s faithfulness.

    You belong to Him.

And sometimes faith looks less like having certainty about the outcome and more like being able to say:

    I believe God.

    Companion Blog

I’ve also created a companion blog for this episode: What If God Isn’t Trying to Save the Ship?

You can use it to revisit the Scriptures, reflection questions, and practical application from today’s conversation at your own pace.

    Ready for Deeper Support?

If this episode brought something to the surface and you realize you need a safe place to untangle what you’re carrying, I would be honored to walk alongside you.

Through biblical counseling and faith-based coaching, I help individuals, couples, parents, and families work through difficult relationships, generational patterns, boundaries, codependency, church hurt, spiritual abuse, parenting struggles, identity, conflict, and the places where fear and control have quietly taken over.

You can learn more about current counseling and coaching opportunities through the link here >

You’ll also find information there about my Created on Purpose retreat in Mallorca, Spain, along with any current retreats, workshops, gatherings, and upcoming events.

And if today’s conversation about control, responsibility, relationship patterns, and learning healthier ways to respond resonated with you, the Happy Kid Toolkit course is coming very soon. This course will walk you step by step through recognizing the unhealthy roles we fall into when we feel afraid, hurt, overwhelmed, or out of control—and help you practice more truthful, healthy, biblically grounded responses.

Whenever you are listening, the show notes and my website will always point you toward the most current resources and opportunities available.

And if you know someone whose ship feels like it is breaking apart right now, would you send her this episode?

You don’t have to fix her.

You don’t have to have the right answer.

    Sometimes simply saying,

“I thought of you while I listened to this,”

    is enough.

Friend, you do not have to keep every ship afloat.

You do not have to control every outcome.

You do not have to do enough to make God faithful.

    He already is.

    And you belong to Him.

    xoxo,

    Danielle

    125. Are We Christians—or Are We Actually Following Jesus? Sep 02, 2026
    Show notes

When Christianity Becomes a Lifestyle Instead of a Life Surrendered

I have had a phrase running through my mind lately that I simply cannot shake:

I never want to become a “Country Club Christian.”

And no, I do not mean someone who literally belongs to a country club.

    I mean something much deeper.

I mean the kind of Christianity that becomes part of our lifestyle without becoming the Lordship of our lives.

We can go to church, attend Christian marriage retreats, have Christian friends, listen to Christian podcasts, know Scripture, pray before meals, serve in ministry, and speak the language of faith…

…and still have areas of our lives that we have not truly surrendered to Jesus.

That realization hit me hard recently as I found myself noticing behavior in other Christians that felt deeply inconsistent with the way of Christ—drunkenness, crude speech, degrading conversations, inappropriate joking, and attitudes that simply did not seem to reflect Jesus.

    My first thought was:

"I never want to be that kind of Christian."

But then the Holy Spirit turned the mirror around.

And suddenly the question was no longer:

“How can they call themselves Christians and behave like that?”

    The question became:

“Danielle, where are YOU professing Jesus while resisting Him?”

    Oof.

    That changed everything.

Because there is a danger in cultural Christianity.

But there is also a danger in becoming self-righteous toward cultural Christians.

And that is where today’s conversation begins.

What Does It Really Mean to Follow Jesus?

In this episode, I take you into my recent Bible reading through Acts 21–23, where Paul finds himself surrounded by deeply religious people—people who know Scripture, believe in God, understand religious culture, and are absolutely convinced they are defending truth.

And yet some of them are actively resisting the work of God happening right in front of them.

That should humble every one of us.

Paul himself once had tremendous religious knowledge, zeal, discipline, and identity.

    But then he encountered Jesus.

And Jesus did not simply become another addition to Paul’s religious life.

Jesus completely changed the direction of his life.

That raises a question I believe every follower of Christ needs to ask from time to time:

Has Christianity simply become part of my identity—or is following Jesus actually changing the way I live?

Because Jesus never said, “Add Me to your life.”

    He said:

    “Follow Me.”

The Difference Between Sinfulness and Surrender

This episode is not about pretending Christians never sin.

    We do.

    I do.

    You do.

We have blind spots. We fall back into old patterns. We say things we regret. We hurt people. We make mistakes.

But there is an important difference between struggling with sin and making peace with it.

One of the truths I keep coming back to is this:

The evidence of discipleship is not sinlessness. It is responsiveness to conviction.

What happens when the Holy Spirit points something out?

What happens when Scripture confronts something we have normalized?

What happens when someone we trust lovingly says, “That really hurt me,” or, “I do not think that was okay”?

    Do we defend?

    Minimize?

    Blame?

    Dismiss?

Or do we become teachable enough to say:

“Lord, is there something here You want me to see?”

    Repentance is not condemnation.

Repentance is the beautiful invitation to recognize that we are walking in the wrong direction and allow Jesus to turn us toward Him again.

Discernment Is Not the Same as Self-Righteousness

This was probably the part of this conviction that challenged me the most.

There are times when something genuinely is unhealthy.

There are times when behavior genuinely does not reflect the character of Christ.

We are allowed to discern fruit.

But discernment and spiritual superiority are not the same thing.

Discernment says: “That behavior does not seem consistent with the way of Jesus.”

Self-righteousness says: “And therefore I am better than that person.”

    That difference matters.

I can correctly recognize that someone else’s behavior does not resemble Jesus and still respond to that person in a way that does not resemble Jesus.

Acts 23 gives us such a beautiful picture of this through Paul.

Even when Paul was treated unjustly, he remained willing to examine his own response.

And that is a question I am carrying with me:

Can I recognize what is wrong in someone else while still allowing Jesus to correct what is wrong in me?

When Christian Culture Becomes the Standard

Every Christian community develops a culture.

    Church culture.

    Ministry culture.

    Family culture.

    Political culture.

    Social culture.

    Regional culture.

    Economic culture.

And if we are not careful, the question can quietly shift from:

    “What does Jesus say?”

    to:

“What do people like us do?”

But following Jesus will eventually challenge every culture we belong to.

    Including mine.

    Including yours.

The invitation is not to become better at fitting into Christian culture.

The invitation is to become more like Christ.

In This Episode, We Talk About:

    • What I mean when I say “Country Club Christian”
    • Cultural Christianity versus true Christian discipleship
    • Acts 21–23 and what Paul teaches us about religious identity and surrender
    • Why religious activity is not the same as spiritual transformation
    • The fruit of the Spirit and why our everyday behavior matters
    • Why Christians can sin without sin becoming our identity
    • The difference between conviction and condemnation
    • How to recognize discernment without falling into judgment or contempt
    • What self-righteousness can look like in Christian spaces
    • How to lovingly respond when Christian friends behave in ways that do not reflect Jesus
    • Why we are responsible for our obedience—not someone else’s repentance
    • How Christian culture can quietly become more influential than Scripture
    • What it means to want Jesus not only as Savior, but as Lord
    • Why the goal is not to look more Christian, but to become more like Christ

    A Question to Sit With

Before you think about someone else while listening to this episode, I want you to let Jesus turn the mirror toward you.

    Ask Him:

Where is there a gap between what I profess and what I practice?

What have I normalized simply because everyone around me normalizes it?

How do I respond when I am corrected?

Is there an area of my life where I already know what Scripture says but continue explaining it away?

Am I more concerned with appearing Christian or becoming like Jesus?

Is there someone whose sin I have begun to view with contempt?

Where might discernment be slipping into self-righteousness?

What is Jesus asking me to surrender right now?

    And maybe most importantly:

Am I simply identifying as a Christian—or am I actually following Jesus?

    Not perfectly.

    But willingly.

    Repentantly.

    Surrendered.

    Teachable.

This is a conversation for the woman who is tired of measuring her faithfulness by outcomes she was never actually meant to control.

    Together, we talk about:

    • Why suffering does not mean God has abandoned you
    • What it means to grieve and still trust Him
    • Why groaning is not the opposite of faith
    • How the Holy Spirit meets us when we do not even know what to pray
    • The difference between surrender and giving up
    • How to stop making yourself responsible for outcomes that belong to God
    • Moving the finish line from outcome to obedience
    • What biblical hope looks like when circumstances remain unresolved
    • What Romans 8:28 really means—and why God can redeem what He never called good
    • How to trust God when you cannot see the whole road
    • Why nothing—not suffering, rejection, weakness, uncertainty, or unanswered prayer—can separate you from the love of God in Christ

    Maybe the question is not:

“How do I make this turn out the way I want?”

    Maybe it is:

“Father, what is mine to do today—and can I trust You with the rest?”

Your pain is not proof that God has abandoned you.

Your weakness is not proof that you are failing.

And an unanswered prayer does not mean He has stopped working.

Romans 8 begins with no condemnation and ends with no separation.

And God is still with you in everything in between.

Use it as a place to slow down, journal, pray, and come back to the truths of Romans 8 when life still feels unresolved.

You can read the companion blog and listen to the episode from one place through the link in the show notes.

    God bless you.

    123. When You Know the Truth but Still Don’t Feel Free, Part 1: From Condemnation to Beloved Daughter Aug 19, 2026
    Show notes

What if you know God loves you, you know you’re forgiven, and you know there is “no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus”—but you’re still living like you have something to prove?

You replay conversations. You feel guilty when you rest. Someone else’s disappointment makes you question yourself. You over-explain, over-function, try to control outcomes, or quietly wonder whether you’re doing enough.

In Episode 123, Part 1 of this two-part Romans 8 series, Danielle explores the disconnect between knowing God’s truth and actually living like it is true.

Together, we’ll unpack Romans 8:1–17 and talk about:

    • The difference between conviction and condemnation
    • Why shame attacks your identity while biblical conviction invites you toward God
    • The hidden beliefs underneath people-pleasing, control, rescuing, perfectionism, and over-functioning
    • Why we often react not only to what happened, but to what we believe it means
    • What it means to move from a spirit of slavery and fear into adoption
    • How to recognize an “orphan mindset” even when you know you belong to Christ
    • Why “I belong before I perform” changes the way we understand obedience
    • How grace frees us to change without requiring us to earn God’s love
    • The Romans 8 Pause, a practical five-question tool for recognizing old stories and choosing a Spirit-led response

You do not have to earn a verdict God has already given you.

You do not have to keep auditioning for love.

And you do not have to punish yourself for what Jesus has already carried.

    You belong before you perform.

In Part 2, we’ll continue through Romans 8 and ask another deeply personal question: What happens when I know I’m God’s beloved daughter…and life still hurts?

    Ready for Deeper Support?

Romans 8 begins with no condemnation.

And before we ever get to the end of the chapter, God reminds us of something life-changing:

    You are not merely forgiven.

    You are His daughter.

    122. Learning to Trust Yourself, Others, and God Again Aug 12, 2026
    Show notes

What if healing isn't just about finding your voice or remembering who you are?

What if the next step is learning to trust again?

    Not blindly.

    Not naively.

But wisely, courageously, and with your eyes fixed on Jesus.

After church hurt, betrayal, spiritual abuse, unhealthy relationships, or deep disappointment, trust can feel almost impossible. You may question your discernment, your judgment, your ability to recognize safe people, and even God's goodness.

    If you've ever wondered…

    "Can I trust myself again?"

"Can I trust healthy people again?"

"Can I trust God after everything that's happened?"

    …this episode is for you.

In this final installment of our special three-part healing series, we'll explore how God gently restores what broken relationships often steal—our ability to trust. Together we'll unpack the difference between discernment and suspicion, why trauma often causes us to stop trusting ourselves, and how healing doesn't make your heart harder—it makes it whole.

Because the goal isn't becoming emotionally armored.

The goal is becoming deeply rooted.

    Rooted in truth.

    Rooted in your identity.

    Rooted in Christ.

    In this episode, you'll learn:

    • Why rebuilding trust is often the final stage of healing

    • How betrayal and spiritual abuse affect your ability to trust yourself

    • The difference between biblical discernment and fear-based suspicion

    • How to rebuild trust in healthy relationships without abandoning healthy boundaries

    • Why trusting God again begins with bringing Him your honest questions

    • How the Happy Kid Toolkit helps identify unhealthy survival patterns and move toward biblical maturity

This episode is Part 3 of a special healing series

If you're new to the podcast, I encourage you to begin with the first two episodes before listening to this one. Each episode builds on the last and walks you through a biblical healing journey:

    🎙️ Episode 120 — Reclaiming Your Voice

Discover how to grieve what was lost, separate truth from manipulation, and begin speaking with courage again.

    🎙️ Episode 121 — Rebuilding Your Identity

Learn how to rediscover who you are in Christ after losing yourself in unhealthy relationships, people-pleasing, performance, or spiritual control.

🎙️ Episode 122 — Learning to Trust Yourself, Others, and God Again

Take the next step toward rebuilding trust in yourself, healthy people, and ultimately in God.

Together, these three episodes create a roadmap for healing: Voice → Identity → Trust

    Ready for deeper support?

    Friend…

If this episode encouraged you, would you consider taking one minute to leave a review or share it with someone you love?

You never know who is quietly carrying the weight of church hurt, betrayal, unhealthy relationships, or disappointment—and your simple act of sharing could become part of someone else's healing story.

Thank you for allowing me to walk alongside you each week.

My prayer is that these conversations don't simply give you more information.

I pray they help you recognize the lies you've believed, encounter God's truth, practice new ways of living, experience genuine freedom in Christ, and carry that freedom into your home, your relationships, and future generations.

Because that's what this ministry is all about.

    Healing hearts.

    Strengthening families.

And helping people become who God created them to be.

    121. When You Don't Know Who You Are Anymore: Rebuilding Identity After Trauma, Loss, and Control Aug 05, 2026
    Show notes

Have you ever looked in the mirror and wondered, "Who am I anymore?"

Not because you've forgotten your name, but because somewhere along the way you've spent so much time taking care of everyone else, meeting expectations, surviving hard things, and carrying responsibilities that you've lost sight of the person God created you to be.

    Maybe you've become the helper.
    The fixer.
    The peacemaker (aka peacefaker).
    The strong one.
    The responsible one.

Maybe you've spent years proving your worth through performance, people-pleasing, achievement, ministry, parenting, or simply holding everything together.

I know that struggle because I've lived it too.

In this episode, we're talking about what happens when trauma, family dysfunction, church hurt, loss, disappointment, unhealthy relationships, and painful life experiences begin shaping our identity more than God's truth.

We'll explore the difference between who you are and the survival strategies you developed to make it through difficult seasons. We'll look at how the Unhappy Kid Triangle often reveals the false identities we carry, why trauma distorts our core beliefs, and what Scripture teaches about who we truly are in Christ.

Most importantly, we'll talk about how healing isn't just about recovering from what happened to you.

It's about remembering who you are.

If you've ever struggled with people-pleasing, perfectionism, codependency, shame, control, fear, or feeling disconnected from yourself and from God, I pray this conversation encourages you.

Friend, your identity is not your trauma.
    It is not your performance.
    It is not your mistakes.
It is not the role you've played in your family.

Your identity is found in Christ.

    And that changes everything.

    xoxo,

    Danielle

    120. Who Told You That? Reclaiming Your Voice, Grieving Your Losses, and Learning to Trust Go Again Jul 29, 2026
    Show notes

    Who told you that?

Many of us carry voices from our past that continue to shape our decisions, relationships, and identity long after the people themselves are gone.

    Maybe it was a parent.
    A pastor.
    A church leader.
    A spouse.
    A teacher.
    A friend.

Over time, those voices can become louder than God's voice.

In this episode, Danielle explores how unhealthy family systems, codependency, spiritual control, and church hurt can lead us to question our discernment, lose confidence in our identity, and struggle to trust God.

    You'll learn:

    • How people lose their voice and identity in unhealthy systems
    • The difference between healthy spiritual authority and spiritual control
    • Why grief is a necessary part of healing from church hurt and relational trauma
    • How the Unhappy Kid Triangle keeps people trapped in fear, approval-seeking, and self-doubt
    • What Scripture teaches about hearing God's voice and walking in wisdom
    • Practical steps for reclaiming your identity and learning to trust God again

If you've ever struggled with people-pleasing, fear of disappointing others, church hurt, spiritual abuse, codependency, or trusting your own discernment, this episode is for you.

    xoxo,

    Danielle
