    29: Liberation Week — The Truth Jul 30, 2019
    Show notes

I was feeling pretty sorry for myself a few months ago. Laying on the couch, drinking wine, and scrolling through Facebook. Then a sponsored post crossed my path—one that led me to enroll in Kate Blake’s 8-week program, resulting in major breakthroughs and the challenge to liberate my negative beliefs by wearing them loud and proud on a t-shirt.
And because I work with insanely supportive, intuitive women, they accepted the challenge with me.
5 gutsy days, 4 bold women, and 20 liberating shirts. Together, we created and embraced "Liberation Week," to take a stand against the negative self-beliefs we have clung to for so long.
    · “I’m worthless.”

    · “I’m broken.”

    · “I’m unremarkable.”

    · “I’m too much.”
Each day, for five days, we wore a shirt with handpicked statements that revealed a lie we have convinced ourselves is the truth. From client meetings to grabbing lunch—one by one, we took back the reigns to our own stories in order to rewrite them as they should be.
The results? Life-changing. We cried. We yelled. We talked about things that have been locked in the vaults of our minds for far too long. And one of the most fascinating parts? Watching other people open up about their insecurities because we created a safe container for them to do so.
This week on The Gutsy Podcast, I have three very special guests—my Worx girls. We’re laying it all on the table:
    · How we identified our core negative beliefs

    · Where we had our shirts made

    · How we felt

    · What shifted

    · How we’re different
This episode is deep, impactful, and raw. I invite you to enter a safe space with us and give yourself the gift of self-awareness of your own negative self-beliefs so that you, too, can liberate.

    Powerback 28: Start Before You're Ready Jul 25, 2019
    Show notes

How many times along your journey have you felt like, I really want to do that, but I don't feel like I'm ready yet. Or maybe there's part of you that says, Hell yes, girl. Hell yes, guy. Let's get this moving. And then the other part of you is like, Oh, hell no. So then you end up in this mental tug-of-war when you feel like you could—but there's a whole part of you that's like this is too scary.. let's not do it yet.
I want you to take your power back by starting before you're ready. Now you're probably thinking, Oh my gosh, Laura, there are so many things I have to figure out and I need to look at this and I need to measure that.
I just want you to stop for a hot second. I want you to take a deep breath and I want you to ask yourself what is true and what is real. If you're at a turning point in your life thinking, you know what, I want to start a business, but you've made up every possible scenario in your mind as to why you can't—ask yourself, are all of these thoughts actually true? Probably not.
Or maybe you're at a different point in your life. Maybe you're thinking it's time to have kids. Is there a perfect time to have children? Absolutely freaking not. I'm going to have to change my schedule. I don't know how we're going to balance these things. It's going to cost more money. How are we going to do the normal things we do on a regular basis?
You see, right when we're on the edge of doing something we know we feel called to do—whether that's starting a business, having children, trying a hobby, hiring an employee, etc.—right when we're on the cusp of doing them, guess who loves to come knocking at your door? Self-doubt.
Look, you can always read more business books or listen to one more podcast or take one more class or do a little bit more research to convince yourself that you're ready and you know what? As soon as you do those things, you're going to find one more thing to do because self-doubt is preventing you from actually taking the first step to do the thing in the first place.
You can use your gut and your risk-taking abilities to make these decisions and I really want you to focus on where you are feeling these feelings in your body. I love the concept of bricks or butterflies to make decisions on whatever it is I'm doing. So if you're having a very light, airy, higher in your stomach feeling—that's what I would consider butterflies. That's an uneasy feeling of excitement and fear all mixed into one cocktail. That's a great greenlight. Keep going because you're in the right direction.
Whereas if you feel a very deep stinging, lower in your stomach feelings, something that just makes you feel like something's not quite right—I want you to stop, turn around, reevaluate, and do whatever else you need to do to figure out.
The best way to take your power back is to just simply take the first step. Just do something. One thing. You don't have to conquer the entire situation in a day. You don't have to have all the answers. You don't have to talk to everybody and their mother about what you're doing. I just need you to take one step because then tomorrow or the next day, you could take one more step and the week after that you could take another. And before you know it—you've built momentum.
The secret is: No one's really ready. The only difference is some people push through and do it anyway.

Powerback 27: Finding Your Power Source Jul 18, 2019
    Show notes

I'll tell you what, nothing kills a vibe quicker than not feeling like you've got all of your shit put together when preparing for something big. And while this definitely alludes to Episode 25 about planning out your day to kinda reduce extra anxiety, today I want to talk about preparing yourself physically and mentally.
It's so easy to run in a hundred different directions, taking care of everything you feel needs to taken care of, making sure everyone else has what they need, and then you realize it's the 11th hour and you have no idea what you're going to wear, of course it's going to be one of those bad hair days where nothing looks right, clothes aren't fitting right, and you just don't feel like you've got yourself together.
Mentally, you feel really foggy and overwhelmed. You just don't feel like you're able to nail it, which is a really challenging way to enter into a great opportunity. I mean, if you don't feel well-prepared physically, mentally, or spiritually through your work—or whatever it is—then the chances of something slipping through the cracks or you not celebrating that success becomes greater. You kind of slip into this mindset of, oh, thank God that's over with vs. I really freaking nailed that and we're going to have a celebratory toast after this week.
I want you to take your power back by finding your power source. This is something you can easily implement into your daily routine to get you feeling on point again. This concept first came up when I was listening to another podcast that RobinNYC from Peloton was on, and she talked about finding your power source. For her, it's just this subtle gold ring she slips on her finger to feel like a boss. It transforms her entire mindset for what she's about to go into. Which got me really thinking—there are a THOUSAND different subtle ways we can lift our spirits (tune in to hear some examples of mine!).
Maybe it's a color you feel incredible in. Maybe there's a handful of songs that really speak to you. And by the time you get where you're going, you're doing jumping jacks and feeling like a badass. The cool thing is, there's no right or wrong here.
Join me next week on The Gutsy Podcast as we have oil painter and mixed media artist, Allie Dattilio on building a brand and making sales through Instagram. Oh, the platform of dreams, so many visual beautiful things. Allie has been able to grow her following to over 24,000 people and runs a very successful artistic business online.

27: All Things Money — How to Charge and Manage Your Cash Jul 16, 2019
    Show notes

One of the biggest mistakes I see in business (and trust me, I had a front-row seat to this myself for the last decade) is undercharging. We feel BAD charging for something that comes so easy to us. So we end up not asking for what we're worth and simply dealing with the financial consequences that follow. Why? Because those consequences only affect ourselves—right? And we've somehow decided we're unworthy of requesting what others within our industry are asking for (even though we're pretty stellar at this stuff, too).

Money and I have had a complicated relationship for a long time, and it wasn’t until doing some deep work with an Executive Coach that I began to shift that relationship from toxic to abundance.

In this week’s episode, we lay down the framework on how to charge clients, collect payments, streamline finances, and utilize tools like QuickBooks to totally change your biz. (BTW, I mention a code in the episode to save you 50% off QuickBooks Online for the first 6 months—you can grab that here!)

So, if money has been a thorn in your side or you simply want to up your game… skootch on over and listen in to this week’s episode.

Powerback 26: Put Your Inner Thoughts on Loudspeaker Jul 10, 2019
    Show notes

If you didn't tune into Tuesday's episode with Amy Taylor, The Shame Eliminator, I'm going to highly recommend you put on the breaks, pause this episode, and go back. But if you did listen to it, you know all about shame and those things we tell ourselves. For this week's Powerback, we're going to talk about our inner thoughts.
So we say a lot of shit to ourselves, but we don't say it out loud. We say it internally. Because realistically—we don't really want anyone else to hear what we're saying. But we believe it ourselves.
If you've been following along with me on social media this week, you know I've been doing something that has taken an immense amount of gutsy for the last eight weeks. I've invested my time and energy into working with an executive coach named Kate Blake.
If you're not familiar with Kate, I highly recommend you look her up. She is a spitfire and she's been helping me to overcome beliefs that have been ingrained in me; deep, dark insecurities that I've allowed to influence what I have and have not been able to do. Ultimately, this shit has held me back from being 110% who I know I can be. So I just kinda got to a point in life where I'm not willing to be stuck anymore.
There's the saying that a rising tide lifts all ships. And guess what? When we're hanging on to mental baggage, we're not raising the tide or the ship. So Kate posed me with this challenge to wear my insecurity is on a t-shirt. And my first thought was, why in the hell would you have me do that? And then she explained to me that to ultimately overcome your insecurities, you have to not only be willing to face them but not be ashamed of them.
So the trick here is just to be insanely aware of what you're saying to yourself. Pause and reroute. What else can you say to yourself in replace of that negative thought? If you're saying I'm fat, try I'm gorgeous. If you're saying I'm a shitty business person, what about look at this incredible business that I have made and how far I have come. It's all about stopping in the moment and replacing those things with healthy, beautiful statements to encourage yourself to keep going. Because guess what? If you can't believe those things, then how on earth do we expect anyone else to? It's not everyone else's responsibility to make us feel amazing. We have to be willing to own those things first.

Powerback 25: When You Mess Up—You're Leveling Up Jul 04, 2019
    Show notes

Screwing up is not always the greatest feeling in the world and often means that we have failed at something. We've goofed something up, we've made a mistake, something has gone a little bit wonky, and by natural human default we associate messing up with, we have failed and we suck. It's often a negative feeling that makes us want to hide. We feel shameful. We feel like, "Why did I even try this in the first place? Here it is again."
But here's where the sharp right turn comes into play: When you're messing up, you're actually leveling up. We don't learn when everything is going perfectly amazing, do we? No, I don't think so. We learn when things are screwing up. When something has gone crazy off budget or it's eating up a ton of your time or it just doesn't go as smoothly as you expected or you just completely dropped the ball. It's in those moments where we have messed something up that we are able to pivot and say, "What went wrong and how can I make it better?"
You see, messing up is nothing more than an opportunity to learn because guess what guys? Everyone messes up. Literally. Everyone on the planet has made a mistake or 10,000 mistakes at some point in their journey. Yet we want to idolize all the successes, all the good things, all the great stories that you hear. Well, you know what? We're just plopping in on those people's stories. We're coming into the final chapter or the shining moments, not the part of the journey where they were screwing up and crying at 2:00 AM because I didn't know how they were going to deal with it.

25: Reduce Anxiety with One Action Jul 02, 2019
    Show notes

You’ve got a busy day ahead of you. A bunch of meetings, a handful of calls and emails to return, a heavy deadline you’re not prepared for, and, oh yeah, you have to get the kiddos to their practice right after work. Every day you’re swinging from tree branch to tree branch, praying one doesn’t snap when you grab it.

It’s this constant cramming and rushing that causes a ton of unnecessary anxiety in our lives. You feel stressed, overworked, and unfulfilled that by the time you complete something, you’re just happy it’s over so you can move on to those other “to-do’s.”

What if I told you that you could drastically reduce your stress, feel more fulfilled, and have more joy…just by implementing ONE action into your life? Well, I’m glad that piqued your interest! Tune into this week’s episode and we’ll dig right in.

Powerback 24: Leave Some of Your Passions as Just That Jun 26, 2019
    Show notes

Outside of being a business owner, I'm going to guess that there's a handful of hobbies that you really enjoy doing. It could be working out or gardening or traveling. Everyone has their own thing that brings them a little extra joy in their life. And then sometimes comes this turning point where we make the things that bring us so much happiness into a chore or into something that we have to perfect.
It actually took me a little bit of time to record this episode because I'm thinking to myself, "What are some of my hobbies that I love to do that I feel like I don't have to put a hundred miles an hour behind,?" And I realize in this exercise that I actually struggle with that a little bit. So this episode is just as much for me as it is for you.
This week, I want you to take your power back by letting some of your passions be just that—passions. Things that you enjoy doing, things that allow you to refocus your mind, or maybe even not think much at all—and be content with them just being something that you love to do.
Something that I really love doing and most people would be like, "What?" But it's kind of mind-numbing for me and that's painting my house. There's something about just getting my hands dirty and rolling the paint on the wall and watching the transformation literally happening in front of me. And that oh-so-beautiful moment where you get to peel the tape off of the ground or off of the edge and you just get this nice crisp, clean line. It's, it's so satisfying. I literally just got done painting the trim in our basement and I was scooting my ass around, you know, all the different corners and I was just thinking, "Oh, I just really enjoy doing this."
