Friday the 13th: A New Beginning Jul 21, 2022

Show notes

This week we are talking "Friday the 13th A New Beginning" which is one of the most controversial of the series and a lightning rod for opinions from fans. This is our 6th Friday the 13th and we had a blast discussing it. We talked about some of the behind the scene nuggets we read about, our dream of a prequel about Ethel and JR, those damn enchiladas, Violet's dance moves, THAT ending, and so much more.

This is a video review you can watch at sequelsonly.com/F13part5

The next sequel that will be discussed is The Purge Anarchy. This is the only Purge movie I have seen in the series and man it had an awesome cast. Frank Grillo, Carmen Elojo, and the late Michael Kenneth Williams. It wasn't what I was expecting and loved it. For it, I chatted with Actor Jasper Cole. Jasper has been an actor for years and is now the go-to bad guy that you have seen in "MacGruber" and so much more. Jasper was a sketch performer for The Tonight Show w/ Jay Leno, was in Jason Takes Manhattan, and has had guest spots on classics like "Married w/ Children", "Everybody Hates Chris", and more. Jasper is the opposite of the bad guy he plays on screen and had great stories from his career.

Actress Melanie Kinnaman (Pam Roberts in Friday the 13th A New Beginning) Jul 14, 2022

Show notes

The next sequel we are reviewing is "Friday the 13th A New Beginning” and for it, I interviewed our first final girl from the franchise, Actress Melanie Kinnaman who played "Pam Roberts". Melanie talked about her journey to being a final girl that started in western Massachusetts with a stop along in NYC where she was a dancer and then started acting in plays. She even played "Cheryl Ladd" in a Saturday Night Live sketch about the "Battle of the Network Stars" back in the late 70s then landed a role on General Hospital followed by some commercial work. Melanie talked about getting Friday the 13th A New Beginning, a role she had in "Best of the Best" starring Eric Roberts that got changed, upcoming projects, and lots more.

Piranha II The Spawning Jul 07, 2022

Show notes

This week we are talking "Piranha II The Spawning" and this just so happens to be our second James Cameron-directed flick this year... YEP, James Cameron directed this one, well 75% of it until he was fired for taking too many shots. For this one, we brought back our buddy Nick, who has helped us make sense of Munchie, Ghoulies, and more. Nick came prepared with some behind the scene stories and even noticed some parts of Piranha II that would show up in later James Cameron flicks. Piranha II had us discussing flying fish, boating a boat, an odd relationship with Anne and her son, dynamite fishing, and more.

The next sequel that will be discussed is a Friday the 13th even though we don't have any more Friday the 13ths this year and we are doing Part V: A New Beginning. This movie is the Halloween III of the Jason Voorhees saga because it tried something new that a lot of fans love and hate, it's quite the lightning rod. I was lucky enough to interview the Final Girl from it, our 1st Friday the 13th Survivor, Pam Roberts herself actress Melanie Kinnaman. Melanie talked about growing up in Boston, becoming a dancer in NYC, doing broadway and off broadway, her big-time commercials she did, landing Friday the 13th, a wild story about "Best of the Best", and more. I loved talking to Melanie about her career and we had a lot of laughs.

Actress & Singer Carole Davis (Mannequin/Piranha II/The Flamingo Kid) Jun 30, 2022

Show notes

The next sequel we are reviewing is "Piranha II: The Spawning” and for it, I interviewed Actress, Singer, and Activist Carole Davis. Carole grew up with her first love of singing where she was singing all over the world, but then after going to an audition just to support a friend, she was called in to audition and got it. The movie didn't matter because she chose most of her roles based on where they were being shot. Carole was in so many great movies like Mannequin, The Flamingo Kid, The Shrimp on the Barbie, and more. But, I also enjoyed hearing about her singing career which includes stories involving Prince, getting the job as singing the end credit song for "Love Potion no. 9" (I linked it below for you to listen to because it's awesome), and more. Amazing chat!

The Last Sharknado: It's About Time Jun 23, 2022

Show notes

This week we are talking "The Last Sharknado: It's About Time" which I went thinking this was the 3rd film in the series, but sadly mistaken. This is a sequel that took a sorta joke and turned it into a franchise that people love, Jamie not so much. We discussed the main plot of the movie is wrong, the time traveling, the many borrowed movie quotes, Dee Snider crushing it, and so much more. These sharknados seem to follow Fin and the gang, but you be the judge.

The next sequel that will be discussed next is "Piranha II: The Spawning" which is directed by James Cameron. This movie got me the chance to chat with an actress who we loved in Mannequin and The Flamingo Kid, Actress Carole Davis. Carole talked about how she sorta accidentally got into acting, her amazing singing career that includes singing the end title credits for "Love Potion no. 9" starring Sandra Bullock plus a story involving Prince that you'll have to hear to believe.

Actor Patrick Labyorteaux (Summer School/Heathers/Ski School) Jun 16, 2022

Show notes

The next sequel we are reviewing is "The Last Sharknado: It's About Time” and I got to interview Actor Patrick Labyorteaux. Patrick and I connected on Twitter when I was talking about his character from a sequel we covered a few months back in "Ghoulies go to College" and he replied! Patrick was a blast to chat with about his origin story, being a child actor, reinventing himself as a jock, Summer School, voiceover work, and more. Patrick loves acting but also loves Hollywood, which was an absolute blast.

Escape from LA Jun 09, 2022

Show notes

This week we are talking "Escape from LA" which we wanted to love because the cast is top notch; Russell, Keach, Buscemi, and more, but unfortunately we did not. There were a lot of similarities between the 1st one and a lot of oddities that Carpenter believed 2013 would look like, so we had our action sequel expert Andrew Powers help us break it down. We discussed Peter Fonda surfing, basketball to the death, Jose Cuervo Jones, the president's daughter stealing Air Force 3, the odd value of a dollar, and more. I wish we got the Escape from Cleveland they mentioned A TON of times in this film.

The next sequel that will be discussed next is "The Last Sharknado: It's About Time" and for it, we chatted with Actor Patrick Labyorteaux. Patrick was in a sequel we covered a few months back, "Ghoulies go to College". Patrick talked about growing up as a child actor being on the hit show Little House on the Prairie, then going on to play the jock in movies like Summer School, Heathers, Ski School, and more. Then he starred on JAG for years. Great chat about his career and his online acting school where he can teach you acting over zoom. Link https://www.workingactorsschool.com/

Mannequin 2: On the Move Jun 02, 2022

Show notes

This week, we discuss "Mannequin 2: On the Move", which is honestly one of the best sequels we've covered this year. This movie has the perfect 80s/90s feel to it and a great cast that has a young Kristy Swanson, William Ragsdale, Stuart Pankin, Meshach Taylor,, and Terry Kiser absolutely CRUSHING IT! Does this movie have plot holes? Yes, it's like swiss cheese, but it doesn't even matter because it is still hilarious. We discuss kissing mannequins, sexy vs sporty perfume, broadway shows put on by a department store, the german Three Stooges, and more.

Next up is our review "Escape from LA" where we discuss a movie where basketball can be life or death and that's not a metaphor.

Actor Peter Jason (Arachnophobia/Deadwood/They Live) May 26, 2022

Show notes

The next sequel we are reviewing is "Escape From LA” and for it, I interviewed legendary character actor Peter Jason. Peter said he was a jock in high school and was convinced by a girl to try out for school play and HE GOT IT, from that moment on he did every play he could. Peter talked about how he worked with John Wayne, John Carpenter, the spiders in Arachnophobia, shooting commercials in New Jersey in the 70s, landing Deadwood, and more. Peter has a new movie out on VOD 5/31 called "Deep in the Forest" (link to the trailer below)

Actor Stuart Pankin (Arachnophobia/Dinosaurs/Mannequin Two) May 19, 2022

Show notes

The next sequel we are reviewing is "Mannequin Two” which is happening because I interviewed an actor who I absolutely love in Stuart Pankin. Stuart started his journey because he loved hamming it up at his family dinners growing up in Philadelphia. We talked about how he landed his 1st job in Hollywood which involves him singing a parody song with Kevin Kline playing piano, so cool. Stuart is hilarious on-screen and off because he had me cracking up a lot during this chat. Stuart has a new movie out on VOD 5/31 called "Deep in the Forest" (link to the trailer below)

Next up is "Mannequin Two" in two weeks, the movie is free on Tubi. Next week we chat with Stuart's co-star in "Deep in the Forest" and close friend the also amazing Peter Jason. Peter worked with John Wayne, Spielberg, John Carpenter, Seagal, and so many more. Peter is a high school football turned actor, because of a girl, which is a story a good amount of guests told me.
