How Fear and Anxiety Almost Kept Me from Adopting my Boys Dec 06, 2021

Ep. 057 - Adoption had never been something I (Kristen) saw myself doing. I always imagined I'd have biological children. Little did I know that 10 years into my marriage, I'd only have three miscarriages, dozens of doctors visits, and an unexplained diagnosis of infertility to show for it. Although I felt lost and broken, God had a perfect plan. I'll be totally honest. The thought of adoption scared me. I was extremely fearful and often overcome with anxiety about the "what ifs."
Thankfully God never left me. He never gave up on me. Through prayer, and a ton of support from family and friends, my husband and I stepped out in faith. This is my story of becoming mommy to my two sweet boys.

How Modesty, Romance, and Femininity Point to the Gospel Nov 30, 2021

Over the years, we have received several emails and DM’s from christian women who have expressed their concern to us at Girl Defined Ministries, asking why we waste time writing about “secondary” issues rather than keeping the focus exclusively on the gospel. They’ve expressed disappointment that we take time to write about “minor” issues like romance, dating, modesty, and femininity.

Let’s talk about this.

Why do we take time to write about topics like love, romance, modesty and femininity?

I mean, as Christian women, shouldn’t we focus on loving Jesus and loving others? Yes and absolutely. Loving Jesus and loving others are the greatest commandments (Matthew 22:36-40). This should be the engine that drives everything else in our lives. However, loving Jesus and loving others isn’t just a passionate feeling — it’s an action. True love for God should result in a heart change that ultimate leads to a life change. People don’t know we’re Christians by our inner desires…they know we’re Christians by the Fruit of our life (John 15, Romans 12:9-21).

As followers of Jesus, we reflect the gospel and show our love for Christ through our heart-transformed actions. That's why each of these topics matter.

Why We’re Not Declaring Our Gender Pronouns Nov 22, 2021

Gender pronouns are all the rage right now. Instagram has even updated their bio feature to include your pronouns as a feature of who you are. Youtube will kick you out if you do not refer to someone by their preferred pronouns. Commercials have resorted to actors verbally communicating their pronouns so that everyone knows who they are.
Guess what? We're not a fan of this movement. We think the issue of pronouns is a big one. We need something more helpful than pronouns. Let's unpack what God's Word has to say and see if we can find lasting answers to the question "Who am I?"

Ep. 54 - I’m sure you’ve had, or have, your own comparison trap. Maybe it’s with a sister or a cousin or a friend. Maybe you’re tempted to compare yourself with that flawless social media influencer. Or maybe it’s with that successful coworker who constantly seems to be two steps ahead of you. (Can’t she just quit already?)
None of us can escape the fact that there will always be people around us living the life we desire. Which means there will always be opportunities for comparison.

Thankfully, success (according to the Bible) isn’t about competing with those around us. It’s not about comparing and feeling proud that we’re better than the sister next to us. Not at all. The Christian life is about running the individual race God has set before us.

Ep. 053 - The word identity has become one of the biggest buzz words of our day. Our modern culture is passionate about spreading the message that our truest identity can be found within ourselves. We’re told that who we are has nothing to do with God, but everything to do with us. As we live in the midst of this popular narrative, we need to remind ourselves that our truest identity doesn’t come from within, but from within God’s design for us.
If we want to experience true freedom and confidence in who we are, we must look to our Creator to define us. He is a good and loving Father and has a beautiful design for our femininity. At the end of the day, our greatest joy and purpose doesn’t come from within, but from knowing who we are in Christ, and then living faithfully in that identity for God’s glory.
