Software eats hardware! We live in software-defined times and it's now a regular thing to get new updates to our cameras and even - for some of us - our cars. So how do we feel about that? Is it a good thing? Probably, if it works ok. Does it add risk to high-cost productions to upgrade the camera in your lunch break?

Amazing, positive and seasonal things you can do with a camera the size of a grain of salt. What would you do? Time to start thinking because this is a real thing. New miniscule hardware coupled with machine learning software is really showing us the future of photography.

Happy holidays to all! We will be taking a short break now and will be back with more TFOP early in the new year.

205 Innovation Beyond Flying Phones Dec 01, 2021

Members of our Discord - good friends that they are - challenged our recent show 203 on innovation. It seems we came across as a little biased towards innovation of a technical and computational nature, largely driven by phone and drone manufacturers. Naturally we hotly contest this view - whilst also recognising that we operate in a service economy and that no-one will listen to our service if we annoy you all ;-)

So this week we present and discuss innovation from broader sources, including those who work very hard to bring us the dedicated cameras we love to lust over.

Discussed in the show: Leica CL, Ricoh GR ii X, Nikon Z9, Canon Dual Fisheye Lens Pinsta camera, The Legacy Survey of Space and Time” (LSST)

Picks of the week: Shirley Cards, Chroma Cube

Since then the pace of innovation has increased dramatically and we now see amazing photography innovations frequently. And people do fantastic things with them. This week we revel in all that, celbrating some specific innovations and specualting about others.
