The B-Side - In Conversation With Steve Zahn Feb 20, 2021
    Show notes

Hello, The Film Stage Show listeners! We're sharing this special episode of The B-Side on this feed. For more episodes of The B-Side, subscribe to the podcast wherever you are listening. Here we talk about movie stars! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones that they made in between. And today we talk to the great Steve Zahn, currently starring in the impressive indie Cowboys. Dan and Conor were lucky enough to speak with Zahn about his eclectic career, including highlights such as Safe Men, Riding in Cars with Boys, and A Perfect Getaway. We discuss the immense variety in his resume, from Reality Bites to Rescue Dawn, the slightly infamous legacy of Sundance fave Happy, Texas, the way he approaches each role, and a little-seen film called Blowin’ Smoke (Freak Talks About Sex). Cowboys is currently available in virtual cinemas and on VOD. Be sure to give us a follow on Twitter and Facebook at @TFSBSide. The B-Side - 2020 Holiday Special (feat. Deon Taylor) Jan 02, 2021
    Show notes

As a holiday treat, we're sharing this special episode from The B-Side on our The Film Stage Show feed. If you haven't subscribed to The B-Side yet, make sure to do wherever you listen to podcasts! Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about movie directors! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones that they made in between. On this strangest of holiday seasons, Conor and Dan had a lovely conversation with filmmaker Deon Taylor, whose new thriller Fatale is now in theaters and available on demand beginning January 8. We chat about the genre flicks that Hollywood won’t make anymore and Taylor’s determination to keep making them. He talks about his hope for people to seek out Fatale in theaters where safe, his journey to directing stars like Hilary Swank and Michael Ealy, and the 90s thrillers he’s used as inspiration for his own pictures. We also dive into some lesser-known, Christmas-set noirs from the 1940s: Christmas Holiday (written by Mank himself!) and Lady in the Lake, Robert Montgomery’s adaptation of the Raymond Chandler mystery. There’s some additional recommendations for holiday-ish movies, some you may know, some you may not.
