054 | What Is Now | 30% Less Steps, Minimum Wage, Sleep Deprivation, What Day Is It?, Will Power, & The PHIT Act Sep 17, 2021
    Show notes

    Show Summary:

In today’s WIN, we discuss 30% Fewer Steps, Minimum Wage, Sleep Deprivation, What Day Is It?, Will Power, & The PHIT Act

Leave A Voice Memo, Review The Show, & Follow Us Here
    Introduction:

This is our first show using Squadcast. We are all in different locations while recording this episode.

    Main Show:

    Sarah’s W.I.N’s:

Do your days blur together? Sarah discusses why this occurs and how to prevent it from happening if this is something that happens to you.

Sleep deprivation is a very real and huge problem in this country. Sarah leads a discussion on the importance of sleep.

    Peter’s W.I.N’s:

Is willpower a real thing? Peter discusses this and more in his WIN. We like to think of it more as a muscle that can be trained and improved.

There is a new act passing working its way through Congress that will allow broader use of FSA money for things like youth sports, the gym, and more. The name of this act is the PHIT act. Learn more here.

    Gary’s W.I.N’s:

Is minimum wage going up a good thing? Gary argues that the rise in wages will accelerate the rise in the cost of goods. He is really calling out the companies for deceptive promotion of the rise in the minimum wage because they pass the cost onto the consumer.

A new study from UMass has determined we only need 7000 steps a day to reduce our risk of mortality. It is good to take more steps, but it does not have a change in mortality beyond 7000.

    Fan Feedback:

We review some live fan feedback that occurred while recording the show on Squadcast.

    Show notes

    Show Summary:

In today’s WIN, we discuss 4 Day Work Weeks, Intermittent Dieting, Ultra-Processed Teen Diets, Covid Waste, Steps To Happiness, & Joe Rogan...You Are Not a Horse or a Cow!

Leave A Voice Memo, Review The Show, & Follow Us Here
    Introduction:

We start the show with Peter being creepy and sneaking into Gary’s house. The team discusses the beauty of living in New England.

    Main Show:

    Sarah’s W.I.N’s:

Sarah discusses wasted Covid-19 vaccines. Over 15 million have been wasted. That equals about $427 million.

Sarah gives us 7 steps to increase happiness!

    Peter’s W.I.N’s:

Peter discusses intermittent dieting which is different from intermittent fasting. New research suggests a protocol of 2 weeks of dieting followed by 2 weeks of maintenance is an effective way to lose weight. The theory is that we do not allow our metabolism to adapt to caloric restriction.

Peter tells us that 67% of what teens eat is ultra-processed food. This is not good. We discuss ways to not allow this to happen with our kids.

    Gary’s W.I.N’s:

Gary talks about Scotland trialing 4 day work weeks (32 hours). Other countries have done the same with good success. This has been shown to improve productivity and happiness.

Gary discusses Joe Rogan’s stance on the Covid vaccine as well as his usage of Ivermectin. He feels as though he is being irresponsible and should use his platform for good.

    • Learning To Leisure
    • Should Anti-Vaxxers Pay More
    • Gut Expansion
    • Stop Peeing In The Shower

    Introduction:

We start the show by talking about how small barriers can keep us from good habits.

    Main Show:

    Sarah’s W.I.N’s:

Krispy Kreme is now giving out 2 free donuts to people who get vaccinated. We did some math and figured out that Krispy Kreme has given American’s 146,000 pounds of fat. We suggest that gyms start giving out free memberships.

Sarah pees in the shower and so do we all! 76% of people admit to it. Sara tells us why women should not pee in the shower.

    Peter’s W.I.N’s:

Peter does not know how to relax. His article talks about how enjoying leisure is good for mental health.

Sugar has been shown to expand our gut which allows us to absorb more calories. It also has a hormonal effect that makes us eat more. The two together can lead to weight gain.

    Gary’s W.I.N’s:

The University of Michigan published a study that calculates how much time certain food adds or subtracts from your life.

Some companies are charging employees more for health insurance if they do not get the vaccine. Others suggest that unvaccinated people should pay more for cleaning and other services as well.

    Intro:

We discuss our recent show change and then jump right into the show.

Leave A Voice Memo, Review The Show, & Follow Us Here
Win or Fail Mastermind Group Session:

    Peter:

Peter is wondering if he is exercising too much? He has added running, biking, rollerblading to his strength training. He is spending 2.5-3 hours per day and he is worried that this may be too much and maybe taking time away from something else.

    Gary:

Gary talks about his glide path towards retirement. He and his wife are planning to “practice” retirement by taking progressively longer vacations each year. They will ultimately take an entire month off 3 years from now. The plan is to try different locations/communities to see what they will want in retirement.

    Sarah:

Sarah had Covid and took a week off. She realized that she needed the rest and also had a good week of introspection. She now questions how much she actually likes her job. Gary also failed by not really talking to Sarah all week.

    • Recess To The Rescue
    • Epi Genetics
    • Pandemic Stock Plays
