Episode 171 Ericka Downing, non-scale victories and turning around self-esteem issues. Three years plus living an IF lifestyle and loving life. Apr 16, 2023
    Show notes

I am a 41 year old wife and mother. My husband Chad and Ihave been together since 2001. We have two beautiful daughters; Leigh is 19 and Brooke 18 years old. Leigh moved out last August, so it is just Chad, Brooke and myself at home. We have an American bulldog name, Lucy and a cat, Baby, in the house. Brooke has a goat named Biscuit and a FFA steer name Bullseye. We live in rural Missouri on 11 acres. With our original 2 acre yard, last August we bought the 9 acres of woods that touches our backyard. I love being outdoors and enjoy hunting, camping, side-by-side riding, boat riding, fishing and hiking; every chance I get. I also enjoy, putting in a vegetable garden, every spring. Now that we have the extra 9 acres, we started putting in a food plot for the deer and turkey. We have a game camera on our food plot and have been feeding the wildlife all winter. I have been working for the same Credit Union out of Rolla Missouri for 13 years this coming May. I love my job and am what we like to call “lifers”. My career plan to retire from Riverways. I have been struggling with my weight for 18 years after my last pregnancy. I have tried multiple plans and diets in the past. I could lose the weight, but never keep it off long term. Fasting is the only lifestyle that has worked. I lose weight like a turtle. Slow and steady wins the race. I have been fasting since August 14 of 2020. My doctor was the one who said I should give it a try in June of 2020. It took me a month and a half to ponder on the idea of fasting when not doing keto. “IF” quickly became the best way that I could have ever improved myself and my mindset. Before fasting I was not in the best place mentally, and had a few health issues. I had severe allergies with sinus infections, at least every other month, and had G.I. troubles. My G.I. troubles became severe enough that I thought I was having a gallbladder attack. Turns out it was not my gallbladder and after lots of testing I still don’t know what was wrong. I do know that fasting has greatly improved my G.I. and I no longer have allergies.

Episode 169-Lisa Berg, losing 30 pounds in three months and maintaining that loss for 15 months, living an intermittent fasting lifestyle. Apr 02, 2023
    Show notes

Back story: Christmas 2019: my sister had lost a bunch of weight and she looked fabulous plus my health insurance premiums were being determined by some biometrics and I could save money by getting them down. I knew what to do after all my years of yo-yo dieting. Eat less, move more, right? I started tracking my calories and exercised like crazy. In 9 months, I had lost 40#. I stayed at my goal weight for 2 whole weeks before I started gaining it back. A year later I had gained back 27#. There had to be a way to keep it off that had eluded me every other time. Two of my best friends on their own weight loss journeys told me about Jason Fung’s book The Diabetes Code and Gin Stephens’ Fast Feast Repeat. I loved the science stuff in Dr.Fung’s book and the easy how-to of Gin’s.

Then they told me about the Fasting Highway. I joined the Facebook group and devoured your book The Fasting Highway. My first fast (a clean one, always) was 16 hours. I’m not a breakfast eater and I love black coffee so I was halfway there already. Every couple of days I said, “that was easy, I’ll add another hour” and fell into OMAD pretty quickly. I lost back 30# in 3 months and have maintained for 14 months.

Stats: age 61, height 5’4”. Highest weight 183# (82kg), starting fasting weight 170# (77kg), current weight fluctuates between 140-145# (65kg).

    More in the episode.

Episode 168-Christine Field. An amazing and life changing transformation losing 178 pounds (80 Kg) a powerful testament for intermittent fasting. Mar 26, 2023
    Show notes

    By Christine Field.

I have been intermittent fasting for about five years in addition to trying countless other methods of weight loss. Initially, I did it wrong. Unclean. Uneducated about how to properly fast etc. all of the same things you hear your guests say. I have been overweight my entire life. As a child I was always the biggest one. I believe that I suffer from insulin issues that go undetected through typical medicine. My highest weight was 358 pounds (162Kg). My current weight is 178 (80 Kg). I am 5’8”. I went from a size 26 Womens to a size 8. A couple of years ago I bought Gin’s book and started listening to her podcasts. That led me to your podcast. Although I love you both, in some ways I relate to your life story. I clean fast every day. I have been doing this for about 18 months. I give myself a 4–6-hour window. I am currently trying to cut back on sugars. My tastes have changed. My life has changed. Fasting reconnected me with life again. Taking the food away and all the noise that goes along with it put me in a place of openness and readiness to live my best life. I glow. I wake up every day ready to tackle life. Things that might scare me or give me anxiety in the past, no longer bother me. It’s bizarre and beautiful! You often speak about how your weight affects your parenting. I resonate with that deeply because I have three sporty children. coach basketball. I want to be agile and fit. I want to be a great example of health and fitness to them and to other children as well.

Episode 167 -Bud Damberg and Tammy Sinibaldo, two friends that do intermittent fasting for very different reasons. IF is not just about weight loss. Mar 19, 2023
    Show notes

Hey friends! Bud’s story is fantastic- as I began seeing his transformation, and even the way he spoke about his experience, it reminded me of a Connecticut version of Graeme Currie! I introduced Bud to IF and even gave him your book in the parking lot of a funeral home before going into the service- I remember thinking I shouldn't look so happy walking into a funeral, but I had never had anyone else ask me about it. I actually found IF because I was looking for an alternative to going on meds for ADHD! I was (very easily and quickly) diagnosed at 46 (I just turned 49). My weight has only fluctuated slightly - maybe 5-10 pounds- but I am a clear: Non-Scale Victory story proving that IF is not just about weight loss.

    Tammy

    Buds story.

I am 59 years old a single parent of three adult children and a grandfather to two. I live in Old Saybrook Connecticut in the USA, a small town on the shoreline in the New England section of the United States. I work in sales management as a customer business manager for a consumer products company in the confectionary industry and have worked in the industry for the past 30 years. Prior to covid I was on the road traveling almost weekly, living in airports, Marriott hotels, and rental cars. The past year, post covid, I’m traveling around 50% of pre-covid. When I was younger, as a child, I never had weight issues, I was thin, and it was not until my early to mid-forties did weight start to become an issue for me. It added up slowly I would yoyo diet, eat low-fat, workout, lose the weight only for it to go back on plus. I did this a few times over the past 15 to 18 years, I knew it was not healthy and each time I’d lose weight, I would say to myself, this is it not coming back on. Only for the weight to come back plus additional pounds. My high point was March 2021 at 267 lbs. or 121 kilograms. It was most likely higher than 267, I was avoiding scales at the time. I knew I had to lose weight and when my father said to me in early March 2021, he wanted to see me lose weight, I knew I could no longer avoid the situation. More in the this episode.

Episode 166 Karen Hobson -At 80 years of age living an intermittent fasting lifestyle. and thriving.. Mar 12, 2023
    Show notes

I live in Poulsbo, Washington, USA. I began IF September 2017 after a phone call from a friend on vacation on the East Coast. She told me about a book by Gin Stephens her nephew had read and had lost 50 pounds.

I got copy and could not put it down. I started losing weight right from the beginning. Over the next 4 years, I would get close to my first goal and then I would go up a few pounds. From July through September 2021, I had managed to gain back 13 pounds. I still clean fasted but I was overeating in my OMAD meals including lots of sweets. Finally, I decided I needed to make a change. First, I needed to admit I was a sugar addict. So, in September 2021 I eliminated processed sugar goodies. I also added two 42 hour fasts weekly to my already 20–23-hour OMADs. I gave myself a year to reach my goal by my 80th birthday in September 2022. I reached my goal and lost even more. So by my birthday I was already doing maintenance. I have maintained my weight loss over ten months, which in itself is a miracle. I am still doing 20–23-hour OMADs fasts with a 42 hour fast weekly if needed. I have lost a total of 65 lbs. over 5 years.

Episode 165 Michelle Montone- She is fast and fabulous, an inspirational intermittent fasting journey. We check back in with Michelle (episode 41) where is she now. Mar 05, 2023
    Show notes

My story- I am a 41-year-old mom of 2 boys (ages 5&8) and wife to my wonderful husband for 10 years. We live in Lake Mary, FL (suburb of Orlando). I am a full-time stay-at-home mom for the last 4 years, formerly a paralegal (for 15yrs) and most recently a podcaster & fasting coach! I started yo-yo dieting around age 16. Since then, I have struggled with my weight. In college, instead of the “freshman 15” I gained about 40lbs…. when I graduated, I lost it by working out 6 days a week, calorie counting and depriving myself constantly. I didn’t eat meat, carbs, sugar and honestly was miserable. I maintained (not so effortlessly) a healthy weight for about 4 years until I got married at age 30. This is when the weight started to pile on. I finally found comfort in a man that loved me for me, the comfort of marriage set in and before I knew it, I put on about 20lbs. Then I became pregnant with our first son in 2014 and gained a good 60lbs, lost it all rather quickly after giving birth but this time by joining a weight loss MLM (so embarrassed of this!) and using supplements and body wraps…hundreds of dollars a month to sustain and I lost only around 10lbs over the next THREE years! Fast forward to 2016-17 – I was pregnant now with my second son. I was gaining just like the first time but at 28 weeks was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Due to having to have an extremely strict diet to control my blood sugar, I didn’t end up gaining as much. It was what came in the next 2 years that was the worst.

Fast forward to January 2020...I’m getting my hair done and overhear the client next to me chatting about how she lost 30lbs doing IF. I went home that day and began researching. A friend of mine invited me to your Delay Don’t Deny FB support group where I lingered for about a week before deciding to start 1/24/20 and have been clean fasting every day since. About a week into my journey, I ordered Delay, Don’t Deny and read it in about an hour – this book would completely change my life (followed by Feast Without Fear, Fast Feast Repeat and Cleanish!). I’ve lost 50lbs meeting my original goal of 140lbs in late October 2020 and have been maintaining now for over 2 years bouncing between 135-140. Almost every single health issue I had before, gone now.

Episode 164-Sean L Dipple the first twelve months a bumpy ride. Learning to overcome some challenges and adapting to an intermittent fasting lifestyle. Feb 26, 2023
    Show notes

Sean L. Dipple South Carolina, USA I was born in 1971 in Columbus Ohio and lived in Central Ohio until I was 12 years old. My father worked in the office equipment industry and quickly worked up through the ranks. When I was halfway thru middle school he was promoted and moved the family to the Chicago area and we lived in the NW part of Chicago until I was 18. I was always a slender child and was never overweight. I didn’t play organized sports but was very active with snow skiing, water skiing and neighborhood sports like football and Ice Hockey on neighborhood ponds in the winter. Eating was never a priority for me and I remember my mom was always forcing me to come in for each meal. I graduated High School in 1989 and weighed 170 lbs. (I am 5’11”). Food and eating out became a priority only when I got married and my focus and priorities changed. I got married when I was 18 to a girl, I met in High School who thought she couldn’t have children. A month after we got married, she got pregnant (yes, the math works out) and my whole life changed. I worked any job I could to provide for her and my child. Food and alcohol quickly became the only thing that relaxed and soothed the stresses that you can imaging were very quickly a daily part of my life. Even though I was consuming a lot of food and sometimes alcohol I only gained 10 or 15 lbs. because I was a commercial electrician and worked very physically hard. I also made $9.00 an hour so going out to eat or eating a lot just wasn’t an option. We really struggled financially. It wasn’t until 1994 that I got a job in outside sales that I really started to gain weight. The physical labor was no longer a part of my daily life and most of my time was driving in the car sitting on my butt. Fast and cheap food was the daily menu. I quickly got over 200 lbs. and haven’t been under that weight since I was 25 years old. Currently I am 51. Since then, I have been in sales management which still involves a lot of sitting. My weight has fluctuated from 272 down to 245. I once got down to 207 but I always seem to self-sabotage myself and return to that self-soothing food, alcohol and the dreaded sugar! I had a very dysfunctional childhood with a father that was very verbally abusive as well as sometimes physically. Once during my childhood my father was overweight and got into running and taking care of himself. He lost a lot of weight and became very arrogant and condescending of anyone that was overweight.

Episode 163 Linda Dicker-A home schooling mom of eight children shares her incredible intermittent fasting story. Feb 19, 2023
    Show notes

    Linda Dicker Bio.

    Height 5’4” (163 cm)

    SW 253 lbs. (115 kg)

    CW 197 lbs. (89 kg)

    GW 133 lbs. (60 kg)

Linda is a 58-year-old stay-at-home mom with 8 children. She and her husband live in the US, in rural Virginia. For the past 29 years Linda has used her degree in education to homeschool all of her children through high school, with her youngest graduating this spring.

Weight gain has been a struggle for Linda since childhood. As a teen she always felt bigger than her thin friends and began dieting at the age of 15. As an adult, Linda always had a desire to be healthy, and to feed her family a healthy diet, but her love of sugar and her emotional dependence on food often sabotaged her efforts to lose weight.

Linda tried multiple diets over the years, a few times losing a substantial amount of weight, only to regain more afterwards. Her weight increased gradually over the years no matter what she tried. Other than weight issues and some back pain, she felt pretty healthy, but about 7 years ago she began to feel pain and numbness in her feet, which turned out to be pre-diabetes and neuropathy. She knew that years of obesity were catching up to her. By 2021, Linda topped 250 lbs. (115 kg) on her 5’4” (163 cm) frame. She knew she had to do something or 300 lbs. would be the next stop.

In 2018 Linda came across Dr. Fung online and IF made a lot of sense to her. She began to dabble in fasting with hit-and-miss results. Then in April of 2021 she came across Graeme’s book, The Fasting Highway online and bought it. Something about his story just really resonated with her, and by the end of the book she was ready to commit to IF.

Shortly into her weight loss journey, Linda had a setback when Covid nearly took her life. She spent months in recovery, but in the end learned to value her own health even more. A short time later, a friend gave her the book, Alive! by Dr. Scott Stoll, that gave her a new vision for eating a whole foods diet. Without the sugar and processed foods driving her cravings, Linda was able to use her eating window as an opportunity to refuel her body with the nutrients she needed with a calm self-control that had escaped her before. Although she still doesn’t feel she has all the answers, Linda has begun to make progress on a path she firmly believes she can maintain for the rest of her life.
