On the final summer FarrCast episode, Michael Farr and Dan Mahaffee take a look beyond the headlines at China. The CCP has made a calculation that money is more important to western democracies than principles, but the tables have turned and many of the same questions are now being asked of China.

But first, Michael welcomes Kenny Polcari for a discussion on the softness of the markets this week, and why no one should be surprised at seasonal volatility.

I Never Stop Hand Wringing Sep 02, 2021

We've made it to September, and the FarrCast is bringing you another special before we begin Season Five later in September.

Michael Farr welcomes Jim Lebenthal of Cerity Partners and CNBC for a discussion on market. Jim reminds us as the markets climb to new highs: don't confuse a bull market with brains. Investing may seem easy now, but it's not.

For the second segment, Michael is joined by our regular political analyst, Dan Mahaffee, who breaks down last night's Supreme Court non-decision on the Texas law that creates a new civil vigilante reward system, and what some of the implications are for American politics and the American judiciary.

For our special segment, we welcome Joshua Huminski, a defense and security expert, to analyze the American withdrawal from Afghanistan. Josh tells us that while the American pullout and subsequent collapse of the Afghani government is a black eye, it would be serious miscalculation to interpret that as a decline of US capabilities.

Continuing to bring you insight on Wall Street, Washington, and The World -- it's The FarrCast!

What Is the Stop Digging Plan? Aug 19, 2021
    Show notes

August is supposed to be the month the headlines slowdown -- but we always keep an eye on them on the FarrCast and this week bring a special summer episode with Dan Mahaffee and Jim Lebenthal.

Michael Farr discusses the political impact of the Afghanistan debacle with Dan, and what that impact could mean to the Biden domestic policy agenda moving ahead. Michael and Dan segue to China, the second largest economy in the world: will market forces send a message that the CCP can't ignore?
Michael then welcomes Jim Lebenthal for a wide ranging discussion of the markets and economy. Jim details the supply chain issues impacting the economy, but he doesn't see demand destruction, and ultimately no existential risk.

It's a summer FarrCast you can't miss! The FarrCast: Wall Street, Washington, and The World.

You Must Be Present to Win Jul 29, 2021
    Show notes

It's another great FarrCast this week, beginning with our great friend, Kenny Polcari. Michael and Kenny discuss the market getting "tired" and expect a wobble in the fall. The bull market should continue, but keep some powder dry as bargains appear.

For our dive into Washington, Michael welcomes Lester Munson this week to explain what the Senate vote on infrastructure is, and isn't, and why he's hopeful a package is passed in September.

In our special guest segment, Michael is joined by Liz Young, Head of Investment Strategy from SoFi. You've seen her on CNBC, and on the FarrCast she has time to explain more of what she's looking for in the coming months as the economy transitions from rebound to recovery. Her insight is not to be missed!
Always bringing you a deeper look at Wall Street, Washington, and The World, it's The FarrCast!

Be the Dog Walker, Not the Dog Jul 22, 2021
    Show notes

The FarrCast comes to you with an abbreviated edition this week, but still an episode packed with insight into Wall Street, Washington, and The World. Michael Farr begins with a state of the markets, and they are pretty good, in spite of Monday's sell-off. The rumors of the end of the world proved to be exaggerated. Dan Mahaffee joins with insight on the standoff in the Senate on the infrastructure bill, and tells us that the bill is still alive, and passage still likely -- just not quite yet.

In the third segment, Michael is joined by Jim Lebenthal who gives advice for investors on how to endure the downsides so you can enjoy the upsides.

Listen and share with a friend! It's The FarrCast!

The summer continues and markets keep inching upwards. Listen to the FarrCast for what is appearing on the horizon!
Michael Farr welcomes Kenny Polcari to talk markets and Kenny says the Fed has done a remarkable job managing the shock to the economy so far -- and it never pays to fight the Fed. He expects seasonal weakness, but the economy is rebuilding and the markets will ultimately reflect that.
Political analyst Dan Mahaffee joins for a lightning round of all of the topics flying around DC. It may be summer, but it's certainly not slow.
For our special guest, Michael is joined by Tony Fratto, an insider's insider with deep knowledge of Washington and how policy impacts the world outside of the beltway. Tony talks inflation, the disruptions in supply, and our return to a new normal.

    Re-flation Re-happens Jul 08, 2021
    Show notes

We hope you enjoy this episode as much as we enjoyed making it -- we truly believe this is one of our best!
Michael Farr begins by welcoming Jim Lebenthal who gives us sage counsel on navigating the emotional pulls of the market. He reminds us that corrections always come, and when we are in a correction, it always feels like something much worse.
Dan Mahaffee joins for a rundown of the latest from China. Dan tells us the Communist Party's crackdown on capital markets isn't about capital at all -- it's about data, and how that data can be used for societal control.

In our third segment, Michael welcomes Dr. Jeffrey Lacker, Distinguished Professor of Economics at VCU and Former President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. Michael and Jeff have a wide ranging conversation on the economy, monetary policy, and importantly, what we don't know. Dr. Lacker points out that it's still not obvious what "normal" we are moving back towards.

Listen to the FarrCast for insight into Wall Street, Washington, and The World!
