I was asked recently by several Breathe Life tribe members if I had plans to address the current racial climate existing within our country. These individuals shared their feelings regarding the importance of my message. How effective my platform, purpose, and words have been in the past for them. Due to the weight & impact of what was showing up, they wanted to hear from me.
:
When I was younger, I remember being memorized by the elegance, confidence, and delivery from key cultural leaders such as Malcolm X, James Baldwin. Their ability to speak to the pain of a people, while also instilling a sense of pride left me inspired. It wasn't long before I wanted to impact and inspire others on a much smaller scale in a similar way. I believed I could inspire people through the lane of consciousness, focusing my platforms, mindfulness events & energy towards the collective healing of humanity. Like most, the conversation around race has always presented its share of challenges. Whenever the conversation around race arrived, I usually felt ill-equipped to share my opinion & voice. Although I understood the powerful impact of racism on our country, I preferred to avoid the conversation altogether.
:
Due to my experiences, emotional triggers, the overall history & impact of racism, holding space for this discussion won't be easy. The subject of race and racism is messy; it's uncomfortable; it triggers things within all of us, no matter our race and background.
:
I now understand the importance of my voice in the space of racism. I now understand to be absent in this discussion is the same as being silence. I look forward to mindfully adding my energy, love, and presence to the collective healing and impact needed to promote lasting change.
