Alex Hormozi on Fatherhood, Leadership & The Cost of Success Sep 15, 2026
    Show notes

Alex Hormozi is back on the show, and I’m telling you right now, this may be my favorite conversation we’ve ever had together. I believe Alex is one of the best business minds in the world today, but what makes him different is his ability to take incredibly complex ideas and make them immediately actionable. We get into everything from productivity and AI to leadership, leverage, risk, and why some entrepreneurs explode through barriers while others stay trapped at the same level for years.

One of the biggest ideas we unpack is something I believe every entrepreneur needs to hear: the risk that got you where you are may not be enough to get you where you want to go. Alex explains why so many entrepreneurs get trapped between $1 million and $3 million in revenue. You’ve finally made enough money to become comfortable, and now the very thing that helped you survive starts working against you. You become protective. You stop making the bets that got you there. But if you want another level, your capacity for risk has to expand alongside your capacity for opportunity.

We also go deep on effort, focus, and leverage. Alex challenges the obsession with complicated morning routines and explains why your best cognitive hours should be protected for your most important work. He breaks down his philosophy that "work is the goal," why winning against other people eventually becomes too low of a standard, and why some of the most successful people measure themselves against what they were truly capable of giving. And his take on AI absolutely stopped me. Too many entrepreneurs are using AI to do the wrong things faster instead of asking whether those things should be done at all. Sometimes the greatest leverage isn’t doing something more efficiently. It’s eliminating it completely.

But underneath all the business strategy is something even bigger. Alex talks about becoming a father, thinking differently about legacy, redefining what a great day actually looks like, and asking a deceptively simple question before taking a risk: What will this actually change about my day? We talk about why fear lives in the vague, why failure builds the pattern recognition that eventually makes success repeatable, and why great entrepreneurs eventually stop "building" businesses and start assembling them. If you’re an entrepreneur, leader, or someone who knows there’s another level in you, this episode will challenge the way you think about work, risk, success, and what you’re actually building your life for.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Why your risk tolerance has to increase as your success increases
    • The $1M to $3M "swamp" that keeps entrepreneurs stuck
    • Why "work is the goal" can completely change how you measure success
    • How to protect your highest cognitive hours and eliminate unnecessary routines
    • Why focus is subtraction and doing less can create more leverage
    • The biggest mistake entrepreneurs are making with AI right now
    • How failure creates pattern recognition and makes future success faster
    • Why great entrepreneurs eventually stop building businesses and start assembling them
    • How Alex evaluates risk by asking what it will actually change about his daily life

This one is packed with ideas I’ll personally be thinking about for a long time. If you know an entrepreneur who feels stuck at the same level, send them this episode. It might show them exactly what’s been holding them back.

Why Your Environment Dictates Your Future Success | Ed Mylett Sep 12, 2026
    Show notes

The people closest to you are quietly writing the next ten years of your life.

When the water got shut off in my apartment, I did not just take inventory of myself. I took inventory of who was around me. What I found there redirected everything that came after it, and it is still the part of my story I talk about least.

So this weekend I pulled together the conversations that hit this from every angle, and I put my own version of it up front.Jeff Foxworthy, Master P, Jamie Kern Lima, Trent Shelton, Fallon Taylor, and Tom McCarthy each arrive at this from a completely different life: comedy, hip hop, beauty, the NFL, rodeo, and peak performance. Not one of them got where they are alone, and not one of them got there by accident.

Here is a piece of what we get into:

    • The question I ask about every person in my life, and why "they love me" is not the answer I am looking for
    • Why Jeff Foxworthy says the mistakes that blow up a life never begin as big mistakes
    • What Master P told his grandmother at seven years old, and the ten thousand dollars that showed up years later
    • The story about my first grade teacher that Jamie Kern Lima pulled out of me, and why it still gets me
    • Trent Shelton's soil test for your entire environment, and the palm tree that makes it impossible to unsee
    • What Fallon Taylor says the turning point in a life actually looks like when it happens
    • Tom McCarthy's poker table experiment in carrying an identity he had not earned yet
    • The three words I use with people I love who are not good for where I am going

Here is a piece of what we get into:I am not asking you to go clear people out of your life today. I am asking you to look around. Look at who you text when something good happens.

Look at who gets the last hour of your night. Then be honest about what that is producing in you, because you will get your standards and not your goals, and those people are the ones setting them.

John Maxwell's #13 Law of Leadership: The Law of the Picture Sep 10, 2026
    Show notes

📥 CLICK HERE to Download the free Leadership Workbook and submit your question for our Q&A with John and me.

Forget what you told them this week. What did they watch you do?

Law thirteen is the Law of the Picture, and out of everything John and I have covered so far in this series, this might be the one that convicted me the most. Because it doesn't ask what you're saying in the Monday meeting or what you posted online. It asks a much harder question: what is your team actually watching you do when you think no one's paying attention.

John's spent over forty years studying this and has put these principles in front of leaders in nearly every country on earth, and this is the law he says confronts people the most. Simply put, people do what people see. Not what they're told. Not what they're taught in a seminar. What they see, day after day, from the person leading them.

I've made this mistake plenty of times, both as a father and as a leader in my business. I used to think I could fix everything I wasn't doing with a great speech on a Monday. I was wrong. Once I understood my team wasn't catching my words, they were catching my life, everything about how I lead changed.

Here's what you'll take from this episode:

    • The Gandhi story that redefines what it means to lead by example, and why it applies to every parent and every leader listening
    • Why "most things are caught, not taught," and what that actually means for the standard you're setting without realizing it
    • The real reason culture can't be announced from a stage, and what it takes to embody it instead
    • How this law connects back to law nine, the Law of Magnetism, and why the leaders you attract eventually become the leaders you reproduce
    • The identity shift that separates someone who acts like a leader from someone who actually is one, even when the cameras are off

This law shaped how I show up with my own kids just as much as it shaped how I lead in business, and I don't think there's a law in this series that will confront you quite like this one does.

The Man Who DID NOT Want to be Elected Feat. Dr. Ben Carson Sep 08, 2026
    Show notes

What does America look like from inside the Oval Office, and what do you learn about leadership when you've actually run for President of the United States?

I don't normally talk politics on this show, but when I got the opportunity to sit down with Dr. Ben Carson, I couldn't pass it up. This isn't a political conversation. It's a rare opportunity to hear from someone who's run for President and had a front-row seat inside the most powerful office in the world.

Dr. Ben Carson has occupied seats very few human beings ever will. He went from growing up in poverty in Detroit to becoming one of the most accomplished neurosurgeons in the world, then stepped into an entirely different arena and ran for President of the United States. What surprised me in this conversation is that he told me he never really wanted to be President. He entered the race because he was deeply concerned about where he believed the country was heading and felt called to do whatever he could to make a difference. Along the way, he competed against Donald Trump, developed a friendship with him, and ultimately went on to serve as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Today, Dr. Carson gives us a rare look at what he saw from inside presidential politics and the highest levels of our government.

I wanted to know what happens when the cameras turn off. What is it actually like inside an administration? What surprised him about being that close to the Oval Office? Dr. Carson talks about the competing personalities and opinions inside government, the intense energy required at that level of leadership, and why disagreement behind closed doors can actually be healthy. We also have a fascinating conversation about President Trump, including what Dr. Carson told him while they were still competing for the Republican nomination, why he believed Trump was going to become President, and what he observed working alongside him once he was in office. Whatever your politics are, this is a perspective very few people can give you firsthand.

But what struck me most is the temperament Dr. Carson brought into an arena that rewards conflict. We talk about how divided the country has become and why he believes we've lost the ability to disagree with someone without treating them like an enemy. He shares why leadership requires listening to different viewpoints, why a "my way or the highway" mentality doesn't work in a country as diverse as ours, and why our ability to see each other as neighbors again may matter more than any political label. We also get into home ownership, the expectations of the next generation, AI, parenting in a rapidly changing technological world, and what he believes families can do instead of waiting for Washington to solve their problems.

And then you hear the story behind the man. This calm, measured former presidential candidate was once an angry teenager who tried to stab another young man. The knife struck a metal belt buckle and broke. Dr. Carson went home, locked himself in a room, turned to God, and experienced a transformation that changed his entire future. As he told me, God took the knife out of the hand of an angry teenager and replaced it with a scalpel that would save lives. When you hear about his mother, his childhood, his faith, his journey into medicine, his run for President, and eventually his time inside a presidential administration, you begin to understand why his perspective on leadership is so different.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Why Dr. Carson says he entered the presidential race even though he didn't really want to become President
    • What happened between Dr. Carson and Donald Trump while they were competing for the Republican nomination
    • What surprised him after getting an inside view of a presidential administration
    • What he learned about leadership, disagreement, and decision making at the highest levels of government
    • Why he believes Americans must relearn how to disagree without treating each other as enemies
    • His concerns about AI, parenting, home ownership, and the future facing the next generation
    • How faith transformed him from an angry teenager who nearly took a life into a surgeon who spent his career saving them

There are very few people who can tell you what it's like to operate on the human brain, run for President, serve in a presidential cabinet, and sit inside the rooms where decisions affecting millions of people are made. Dr. Carson can. Regardless of your politics, this conversation is about something bigger: leadership, faith, character, family, and what each of us can do to build a better future. This is one I genuinely didn't want to end. God bless you. Max Out your life.

How to Stop Wasting Years of Your Life With One Simple Word Sep 05, 2026
    Show notes

You don't need more talent. You need one more rep than you think you have.

I get asked all the time what actually separates the people who win from everyone else, and this week I gave you my real answer: it's not talent, it's not connections, it's one more. One more call, one more set, one more minute. So instead of just teaching it, I pulled from the archives to show it in action, my conversations with David Meltzer and Jay Shetty, alongside some of my favorite solo teaching on this over the years.

Here's what you'll gain from this episode:

    • The one word mantra: The single word I've repeated to myself for three decades, and why I believe it's the real separator between winners and everyone else.
    • The 24 hour myth: Why I stopped believing a day is 24 hours a long time ago, and the shift that gets me multiple days out of every single one.
    • David Meltzer on accessibility: What makes some of the most successful people I know also some of the most reachable, and what that has to do with how you value your own time.
    • Jay Shetty on evaluating progress: How often Jay actually checks in on himself, and why it's nowhere close to how often most people do.
    • The story I still think about with Kobe Bryant: What I saw the last time I was around him, and why it changed how I look at every day since.

Whatever rock is sitting between you and your dream right now, it's breaking down more than you realize. You just haven't seen the evidence yet. Stick around long enough and the candy comes out.

John Maxwell's #12 Law of Leadership: The Law of Empowerment Sep 03, 2026
    Show notes

📥 CLICK HERE to Download the free Leadership Workbook and submit your question for our Q&A with John and me.

You either go up with the people you lead, or you go down with them. There is no version where you stay still.

Welcome back to our series on John Maxwell's 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership. Law #12 is the Law of Empowerment, and John opens it with a line that stopped me: only secure leaders give power to others. This one hits close to home for me. If you know me at all, you know I like control. Letting go of it has been one of the hardest lessons of my leadership life.

In this episode, John shows you what happens when a leader pushes people down instead of lifting them up: you don't stay above them, you go down right along with them. Then he gets specific about why so many leaders never empower anyone in the first place. He breaks down five reasons, from insecurity to ego to the kind of bad experience that makes you swear you'll never pour into anyone again, and he doesn't let anyone off the hook, including himself.

I connect this straight to what I teach in the power of one more. I talk about how leaders convince themselves they're more valuable when everything depends on them, when the truth is the opposite: if everything depends on you, you don't have a business, you have a bottleneck with your name on it. I challenge you to stop asking how you can get something done fastest and start asking who can grow by doing it instead. That one shift in the question changes everything about how you lead.

Here's what you'll gain from this episode:

    • The Demonstration: John's live, physical illustration of exactly what happens to a leader who pushes their people down instead of lifting them up.
    • The Five Reasons You Don't Empower: The breakdown of what's really stopping you from letting go, and at least one of them is going to sting.
    • The Power of One More: How a single moment of belief from a leader can turn someone into who they were always capable of becoming.
    • The Bottleneck Trap: Why holding onto every decision doesn't make you more valuable, it makes you the reason your organization can't grow.
    • Kingmaker, Not King: What John says the real goal of leadership actually is, and why the leaders who understand it end up more secure, not less.

I think about every person who ever believed I could be more than I thought I could be, and I know I would not be sitting here right now without them. That is the debt I am trying to pay forward every single day. Somebody in your life is waiting for you to see something in them before they see it in themselves. Stop protecting your position long enough to go find that person this week.

This is part of a new series releasing every Thursday where John Maxwell and I are walking through all 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership together, one law at a time. Click the link below to download the free 21 page workbook so you can follow along, track your growth, and submit your questions for our upcoming Q&A sessions with John.

How To Be A World Class Communicator Feat. Rory Vaden Sep 01, 2026
    Show notes

What if the biggest thing holding you back isn't your talent, your intelligence, or your work ethic, but your inability to express what you already know?

Rory Vaden is back for his third appearance on the show, and this conversation might be the most important one we've ever had together. Rory is a two-time New York Times bestselling author, a two-time World Championship of Public Speaking finalist, and the co-founder of Brand Builders Group. He's also someone who has personally helped me grow my own brand and career. We go deep on what I believe is one of the most underrated skills in life: your ability to communicate, present, tell stories, and move people emotionally. Because whether you're leading a company, closing a sale, raising your kids, building a relationship, or speaking to thousands of people, you're presenting every single day.

Rory breaks down why charisma isn't something you're simply born with. It's a skill you can develop. We get tactical about how changing your pace, volume, eye contact, pauses, and storytelling can literally change how another person feels when they're listening to you. And in a world increasingly dominated by AI, Rory makes a powerful point: your story and your experiences are becoming more valuable, not less. AI can help create information, but it cannot live your story for you. If you can learn to tell that story in a way that creates emotion and meaning for someone else, you become unforgettable.

We also get into personal branding, and Rory gives one of the best definitions I've ever heard: your personal brand is the digitization of your reputation. You already have a reputation, whether you're intentional about it or not. The question is whether that reputation is helping you create more income, impact, and opportunity. Rory explains why you don't need millions of followers to build an incredibly profitable brand. Instead of obsessing over reaching more people, serve a narrower audience in a deeper way. Be useful. Create value. Become so good at helping the right people that they can't ignore you.

But this conversation goes deeper than business. Rory shares the buffalo story that helped build his career and explains why successful people learn to run directly toward difficult things instead of spending their lives avoiding them. We talk about separating your emotions from what needs to be done, doing the difficult things today that create freedom tomorrow, and why success ultimately becomes empty if it's driven only by ambition or competition. Rory's journey has taken him from ambition, to competition, and ultimately to mission. And that's where the real fulfillment is. It's not just about what you accomplish. It's about who becomes better because you were here.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Why communication may be the fastest skill you can develop to dramatically change your life
    • How to move people emotionally whether your audience is 20,000 people or one person
    • Why storytelling becomes even more valuable in the age of AI
    • Rory's four-part storytelling framework: scene, struggle, summit, and lesson
    • Why the struggle is actually the most important part of every great story
    • How your personal brand is really the digitization of your reputation
    • Why you don't need millions of followers to build a powerful and profitable brand
    • How serving a narrower audience more deeply can create extraordinary results
    • Why successful people run toward difficult things instead of avoiding them
    • The difference between building your life around ambition, competition, and mission

Some of you are far more talented, capable, interesting, and valuable than the world currently knows. The problem isn't what's inside you. The problem may be that you've never learned how to express it. Get better at communicating. Get better at telling your story. Get better at expressing who you really are. Because when you learn how to move people emotionally, you don't just change your business. You change the depth and quality of your entire life.

God bless you. Max out your life.

Learn the One Filter That Exposes a Fake Friend Instantly Aug 29, 2026
    Show notes

Every person in your life is telling you the truth about themselves right now, just not with their mouth.

That is the filter I open this weekend mashup with, and it is why I brought together some of the sharpest minds I know on reading people, building real confidence and telling the difference between someone who loves you and someone who is just good at saying it.

Dr. Marisa Franco is breaking down the actual research on why some friendships take root and others fade. Brendon Burchard and I get into the two small promises I started keeping to myself and how the habit of keeping tiny commitments directly relates to whether you can trust a person or not. Then you hear the raw truth from a man who finished Navy SEAL training, Army Ranger School and Air Force tech school in one lifetime, David Goggins, describing the 19 hours that broke him down and rebuilt him at the same time. What he says about the people from his old life who still want to pull him back will stick with you.

Here's what you'll walk away with:

    • Filter test: the exact shift in how you watch people that tells you instantly who is real.
    • Friendship science: why the group you show up to again and again matters more than how the first meeting felt.
    • Confidence rebuild: the two tiny promises that pulled me out of my lowest point.
    • The cookie jar: how to reach for proof of your own toughness when your body wants to quit.
    • The lens flip: one question that will change how every person in your life experiences you.

I have spent the past few years listening less and watching more, and every relationship in my life is better for it.

Watch the people around you this week instead of just listening to them, and you will already understand more about your life than you did yesterday.

John Maxwell's #11 Law of Leadership: The Law of the Inner Circle Aug 27, 2026

Your inner circle is either your greatest asset or your biggest liability. There's no neutral option.

Welcome back to our series on John Maxwell's 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership. Law #11 is the Law of the Inner Circle, and John says it as plainly as I've ever heard it: a leader's potential is determined by those closest to him. This one is personal for me. Every real breakthrough in my life traces back to the people I let in close.

In this episode, John breaks down why the "self-made man" is a myth: if you made everything yourself, you haven't made much. He walks through what he calls the water bucket and the gasoline bucket, how the people around you either put out small fires or turn them into disasters, and why he's convinced there are only two kinds of people in this world: lifters and leaners. Then he hands you the exact grid he uses to evaluate everyone in his inner circle.

I share a story of my assistant Linda, and the night she took an assignment I gave her and made it better than I ever could have on my own. That's what this law is really about. It's not about doing more. It's about who you let close enough to make you more.

Here's what you'll gain from this episode:

    • The Self-Made Myth: Why claiming you built it all alone isn't something to be proud of, and what it actually reveals about your team.
    • Water Bucket or Gasoline Bucket: John's test for figuring out who calms the fire in your organization and who throws fuel on it.
    • Lifters and Leaners: The two types of people in every inner circle, and how to tell which one you're becoming for the people around you.
    • The Five-Value Grid: John's exact evaluation system for deciding who earns a seat closer to you: potential, positive, personal, production, and proven value.
    • "You Just Make Me Better Than I Am": My story about Linda, and what it looks like when someone in your inner circle takes what you give them to a level you couldn't reach alone.

I used to think being the hardest worker in the room was enough. It never is. The moment I stopped trying to carry everything myself and started building the right circle around me is the moment my life actually changed.

Take a real look at the five or six people closest to you this week. Are they lifting you or leaning on you?

Jon Gordon: Forgive Fast — The Habit That Changes Everything Aug 25, 2026
    Show notes

You forgive fast, or you burn slow.

Jon Gordon might be setting the record for most appearances on this show at this point, and there's a reason for that. He's one of my closest friends, someone I call when I need real advice, and honestly one of only two people left where I still ask myself "what would John do" before I make a big decision, especially now that my dad is gone. When someone like that comes back on the show, you pay attention.

His new book, The Power of Positive Habits, might be the most tactical thing he's ever written. Ninety-three habits, pulled from nearly two decades of working with the best coaches and leaders in sports and business. Out of everything we covered, one story stopped me cold. Jon shared the moment he finally forgave his biological father, a man who wasn't there for his wedding, who abandoned him when he was a year old.

"Holding onto resentment", he told me, "is like gripping a hot coal meant for someone else. You're the one who ends up burned." He wishes he had forgiven faster. So do I, on my own stuff. That's why we're calling this one Forgive Fast.

Here's what you'll gain from this episode:

    • Forgive Fast: Why holding onto resentment, bitterness, or an old grudge is quietly costing you more than the person who wronged you.
    • The Thank You Walk: The daily gratitude practice that shifted Jon's mindset, saved his marriage, and became the source of nearly every book idea he's ever had.
    • Write Your Purpose Statement: Why putting your "why" on paper, not just carrying it in your head, is what keeps you from burning out when things get hard.
    • The Four Questions: What elite coaches like Sean McVay and Dave Roberts ask themselves every single day to keep improving instead of coasting on past success.
    • Tune Out Distractions: The sea turtle story Jon shares that will completely change how you think about chasing the wrong lights in your own life.

Jon said the sooner you forgive, the sooner you start growing again. Whatever you're still carrying, this episode is your permission to finally put it down.
