We probably should have had him on a long time ago, but better late than never. Dr. Phil Maffetone is a coach, author, innovator, and founder of the 180 Formula and the MAF test for heart rate training. He's basically the godfather of the field, which has seen a huge surge in followers over the last decade. He's also been an advisor to music legends like Rick Rubin, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Johnny Cash, and James Taylor.

In this episode, we talk about heart rate training and its benefits, as well as his new research into music and its affect on the mind and training. This is a long one, but it was a lot of fun and super interesting!

Look, we had to know what they were all about, so we went straight to the source. Brett Fraser is the Chief Athletes Officer for the Enhanced Games, a sporting event without drug testing, billed as "an alternative to the corrupt Olympic Games."
This is an open conversation about the persistence of drugs in sport, the idea of "scientifically-enhanced" athletes, and whether or not that's a good thing or a bad thing for sport overall. There are definitely two sides to this issue and both have certain merits, whether you agree or not. Either way, we're interested to see how it plays out over the next year and a half.

We didn't know this before we started, but apparently we just talked to the only person to podium at Marathon de Sables, UTMB, and Western States, where he just won a few weeks ago with the 4th-fastest time ever. And to think that it all started with a bet.
Tom Evans is an Adidas Terrex athlete and no doubt, one of the best ultrarunners in the world right now, throwing down incredible performances on some of the toughest courses in the game. We talk about how he got into running, why he drinks Red Bull before, during, and after his races, and how he's loving the new carbon-plated trail racing shoe coming from Adidas.
