Today's guest and I have a lot in common, we both went to college for musical theater, we both acted in the upcoming Billy Crystal/Tiffany Haddish movie Here Today, he's performed in Broadway's Beetlejuice, School of Rock, Matilda, Big Fish, Wicked and Glory Days, and I've seen several of those shows. ALEX BRIGHTMAN is our guest and I did everything I could to find the downsides to having the life I've always dreamed of. We talked growing up in Saratoga, going to a Jesuit prep school while being Jewish, getting death threats on instagram, and how Alex ends confrontations with people who unapologetically bump into him on the street (a steely "lead with compassion.") We also play audio from one of my girlfriend's night terror episodes WHICH SHE SAID I COULD DO! Join The Downside Patreon for ad-free and bonus episodes on the 1st and 15th of every month. This month's bonus episodes explore the downsides of funerals and celebrity encounters. Fun and sad! We interrogate the RECENTLY single comedian FUMI ABE (@thefumiabe) about all the downsides of living alone for the first time in seven years. Once we've all stopped crying, he discusses moving from Chiba, Japan to Columbus, Ohio as a kid, auditioning for a popular reality show about Americans having talent, and this didn’t come up but Gianmarco wants to mention he once beat Fumi in the 2019 Devil Cup Comedy Competition. This week we’re joined by The Tonight Show’s KENICE MOBLEY (@kenicemobley) to dish on the downsides of strip clubs, dating in New York City, making your late night debut during a global pandemic, and college cafeteria shows. We also breakdown once and for all the difference between a horse girl and a cat lady, which has surprisingly little to do with horse or cat ownership. On the premiere episode of The Downside, GIANMARCO SORESI (@gianmarcosoresi) and RUSSELL DANIELS (@russjdaniels) welcome stand up comic MATTHEW BROUSSARD (@mondaypunday) to discuss the downsides of being ridiculously good-looking, growing up in Corpus Christi, helping his peers cheat on math tests so they'd finally be his friend, too many Broadway stars being on Law & Order: SVU, and non-Jews playing Jews in tv/film, which is only a problem for shows it's too late for Gianmarco to be on.
