A few big storylines are already arising this season as the guys discuss the return of Jonathan Toews, the hot start for Kyle Connor, Evegeni Malkin and the looming contract situation for Adrian Kempe.

We then look at some teams off to slow starts as the Buffalo Sabres were shutout in Game 1 and John Gibson gets shelled in his Red Wings debut.

Can the Carolina Hurricanes go another season with injury prone goaltending? Pyotr Kochetkov is already missing the start of the season. How will the Canes handle this situation?

Luke Hughes & Jackson Lacombe Extend + Player Milestone Predictions Oct 03, 2025

Show notes

Welcome to the DFO Rundown!

On today’s episode Jason and Mike Rupp start by talking about Rupp’s Stanley Cup performance. What he remembers from his perspective how he felt at the time and his story about the game sheet!

We then move onto the Luke Hughes and Jason Lacombe extensions. Which is a better deal and who has earned it the most?

Last night saw a feisty game between the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning. This game left Lundell as a question mark as he left the game early. If he is out this is another HUGE blow for the Panthers.

Which NHL teams that put up 100 point seasons last year will have a regression? Will the Canadiens and Capitals find their way back into the postseason? Are the Wild good enough in the east? On the flip side is Calgary good enough to get in?

As we were filming the Edmonton Oilers re-signed their Head Coach Kris Knoblauch. How important has he been to the Edmonton Oilers? Should he have been considered for the Jack Adams last season?

Producer Pat then joins for ‘Fill in the Blank’ brought to you by bet365.

On the topic of future predictions, how many players will have a 50+ goal season and how many will have 100+ points?

The Hughes Brothers, Contract Negotiations and Season Preview w/Jeff Marek Sep 22, 2025

Show notes

Another season of the DFO Rundown kicks off with Jason Gregor and new Co-Host, Jeff Marek! This season Jeff will be joining Jason every Monday and mystery co-host will be joining each Friday!

Today the guys kick off the show talking about which games should end up in the hockey Hall of Game. Which games were so memorable, so important, so impactful that they deserve a spot in hockey history.

They then jump into the comments Quinn Hughes made in a recent interview with Elliot Friedman. How concerned should Vancouver Fans be this season that Quinn Hughes may be moving on? This leads into other contract negotiations that are going on around the league with Kirill Kaprizov and Connor McDavid also raising some eyebrows.

Speaking of the Hughes brothers we also need to look at the other two Hughes brothers in New Jersey. Could this be a legit landing place for Quinn Hughes? What about the Luke Hughes contract negotiations?

Then Producer Pat drops in for a little Buy or Sell for bet365. How many Canadian teams will make the playoffs this season? Will Auston Matthews hit 50 goals and will the Utah Mammoth make the playoffs for the first time in franchise history?

Another major storyline this summer is the Noah Dobson trade to Montreal. What are your expectations for the defenseman in his new city.
