Massive crowds fill St. Peter’s Square for Pope Francis’s funeral: Did the pope write a now-viral “letter from the hospital”? Apr 28, 2025

Show notes

“He was a pope among the people, with an open heart toward everyone.” This is how Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re described Pope Francis in Saturday morning’s funeral for the deceased pontiff. It was remarkable to see more than 250,000 people fill St. Peter’s Square from all over the world. They came in such numbers that more than four hundred priests were required to serve communion to all who wanted to receive it. With Pope Francis’s burial, the church began nine days of official mourning, known as the novemdiales, then the conclave gathers to elect the next pope.

Amish helping to rebuild Hurricane-ravaged North Carolina: Why the biggest story is not always the most important story Apr 25, 2025

Show notes

Article Description

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, Amish volunteers from Pennsylvania quietly helped rebuild not only homes but also hope for residents of Chimney Rock, NC. Their story is a powerful reminder that God often works through quiet faithfulness, not breaking news. Most breaking news stories will play out in ways that will impact us, but we have little ability to impact them. Yet the best way to advance God’s kingdom on earth is to keep our focus and energy on the parts of our lives where we can make a difference.

Who will be the next pope? Why an atheist says America needs Christianity Apr 24, 2025

Show notes

The death of Pope Francis continues to dominate the news, but commentators are beginning to turn their attention to what comes next as well. Of the twelve cardinals thought to be frontrunners to become the next pope, many are considered more conservative than Francis. The person who becomes the next pope will obviously be vitally significant to America’s seventy-two million Catholics (comprising the largest denomination in the US). But three values Francis emphasized during his pontificate transcend denominations and are crucial to the future of American democracy as well.

Doctor fired for trans surgery warning receives $1.6M settlement: The path to courage that changes the culture Apr 23, 2025

Child psychologist Allan Josephson said at a Heritage Foundation panel, “Transgender ideology... is neglectful of the need for developing coping skills and problem-solving skills in children.” He was forced to resign as division chair of the University of Louisville’s Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychology. He sued the university and will receive a $1.6 million settlement from the university this week. To find the courage to refuse the lies of our culture, we need to love our Father more than we love our world. How do we make God our “one and only desire”?

Did the “experts” fail us on COVID-19? Why “Americans haven’t found a satisfying alternative to religion” Apr 22, 2025

Show notes

Many “experts” assured us that religion was outdated—and many now admit they were wrong. Studies show that people of faith report higher well-being, gratitude, and connection, while secularism leaves many adrift. But beyond the sociological benefits lies a deeper truth: Christianity is not merely helpful—it’s true. Because Christ is risen, our faith is not in vain, and we are not alone. The same Jesus who conquered the grave walks with us today, offering hope, healing, and life. The more we know him personally, the more we’ll find that our best days truly are yet to come.

Pope Francis, the first Latin American pontiff, has died. His passing was announced by Cardinal Kevin Farrell, the Vatican camerlengo. Bells tolled in church towers across Rome after the announcement. The pope survived a thirty-eight-day stay in Gemelli hospital for a respiratory crisis, emerging yesterday to bless thousands of people in St. Peter’s Square for Easter Sunday. Of all that could be said about Pope Francis this morning, however, I want to focus on his humility.

Will the Iran and US treaty talks lead to peace? Apr 18, 2025

Show notes

When President Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi last Saturday to discuss Iran’s nuclear ambitions, no one expected it to lead to further negotiations on Saturday. This has raised hopes for a diplomatic breakthrough in the Middle East—but trust is scarce and Iran’s motives remain unclear. As we reflect this Good Friday on the Messiah many rejected for not meeting their expectations, we’re reminded how often we, too, reshape God to fit our desires. True peace only comes when we surrender control and follow the true God.

Why are young adults fueling “meaningful spiritual renewal”? Maundy Thursday and my doubts about grace Apr 17, 2025

Show notes

Two-thirds of all US adults now say they have made a personal commitment to Jesus that is still important in their life today, marking a 12 percent increase in the last four years. Young adults in both countries are fueling the increase. But what God does, Satan corrupts. He whispers in our souls that we are not worthy of God’s favor, that our sins have cost us his best. An event on Maundy Thursday exposes this lie and invites us to consider an astounding dimension of Jesus’ love for us.

Abducted US pastor Josh Sullivan rescued in shootout: Silent Wednesday and my tearful cry to God Apr 16, 2025

Show notes

Last Thursday evening, American pastor Josh Sullivan was abducted at gunpoint as he was delivering a sermon during a prayer meeting at his South African church. He was apparently kidnapped for ransom, a crime that has recently been on the rise across the country. His church urged its followers to “please pray for Josh Sullivan.” This morning, we are learning that these prayers have been answered. The greater our challenges, the greater our need for our Father’s provision and grace.

“Wellness rooms” and fireplaces that lead to escape tunnels: Holy Tuesday and my spiritual blindness Apr 15, 2025

Show notes

Space designers in major cities claim that “wellness rooms” are essential for creating peace in modern American lives. Conversely, “panic rooms” are also booming in American homes. Bunkers cannot protect us from pancreatic cancer or panic rooms from traffic accidents. In fact, placing our security in buildings built by humans can blind us to the most significant and urgent issues our souls face today. The One who came to open blind eyes through his incarnate body now wants to do the same through ours.
