Article Description

President Trump privately told senior aides late yesterday that he has approved attack plans against Iran but is holding off in the hope that threatening to join Israel’s strikes will lead Tehran to abandon its nuclear program. At issue is the Massive Ordnance Penetrator bomb (MOP) needed to blow up the Fordow nuclear facility. Israel does not possess weapons capable of penetrating the facility and destroying it—but the US does. We are already sharing intelligence and helping intercept Iranian missiles and drones. However, there is something else we also need to share with Israel, a factor vital to our flourishing and future as a people.

President Donald Trump called yesterday for Iran’s unconditional surrender, though the end of its war with Israel does not appear to be in sight. The way Iran’s dictators treat their own people and others in the region is indicative of the way they would treat Americans if given the opportunity. We are mistaken if we think this conflict cannot involve us directly. Today, we consider six scenarios in escalating order of geopolitical impact and how we might pray for all those involved.

Why is Iran “the world’s most dangerous regime”? The power of ideology to change the world Jun 17, 2025

Show notes

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Fox’s Bret Baier recently, “We’re geared to do whatever is necessary to achieve our dual aim, to remove . . . two existential threats—the nuclear threat and the ballistic missile threat.” He added, “We did act—to save ourselves, but also, I think, to not only protect ourselves, but protect the world from this incendiary regime. We can’t have the world’s most dangerous regime have the world’s most dangerous weapons.” Why would he call Iran “the world’s most dangerous regime”?

Suspect arrested in shooting of 2 Minnesota lawmakers Jun 16, 2025

Show notes

Former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, were fatally shot in their home early Saturday morning in what Gov. Tim Walz called a “politically motivated assassination.” State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were also shot multiple times in their home about nine miles away. In tumultuous times, we can be frightened into withdrawing from the news and the challenges of our day, or we can ask in every situation: How is God “reaching out” to us? Since I believe he redeems all he allows, I believe we can ask how he could redeem even this moment and pain, and how we can join him.

Israel’s preemptive strikes on Iran targeted nuclear facilities, missile depots, and top military leaders, signaling a dramatic shift away from diplomacy. Prime Minister Netanyahu warned, “If we don’t act now, there will not be another generation.” As the conflict escalates, one question matters most: How should we pray in moments like this? The answer might surprise you—and change the way you approach every prayer from here on.

An Air India plane with more than two hundred people on board has crashed near the airport in India’s western city of Ahmedabad, officials said this morning. The flight was scheduled to depart at 3:40 a.m. ET. The plane was taking off and was headed to London’s Gatwick airport when it crashed in a densely populated civilian area, causing a massive fire with billowing black smoke. The Christian faith offers a hope in the face of mortality found nowhere else, a way of seeing death and life that redeems the former and embraces the latter. This hope was expressed long ago in a surprising way that is still powerfully relevant today.

Who is driving the chaos in Los Angeles and beyond? A reflection on the spiritual warfare of our day Jun 11, 2025

Show notes

Mayor Karen Bass imposed an 8 p.m. curfew last night for downtown Los Angeles as anti-ICE protests continued in the city. She did so “to stop the vandalism, stop the looting,” noting that twenty-three businesses were looted Monday night. Meanwhile, in a televised address, California Gov. Gavin Newsom condemned President Trump’s deployment of the military to quell the protests as an assault on democracy. More protests are planned for today in Seattle, St. Louis, Indianapolis, and other cities. By Monday, organizers had scheduled demonstrations in nearly every major city. Who is behind them, and how can we pray for our country today?

The Muslim Brotherhood is “coming for all of the West” Jun 10, 2025

Israel has confirmed that a body extracted by their forces in a southern Gaza tunnel is that of Hamas leader Mohammed Sinwar. The brother of Oct. 7 mastermind Yahya Sinwar, he was killed in a May 13 airstrike as he hid under the European Hospital in Khan Younis. “We found a military base under a hospital,” said the company commander who discovered the body. His statement forms a descriptive metaphor for my article this morning as we discuss the rising spread of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Los Angeles yesterday, blocking off a major freeway and setting self-driving vehicles on fire, after President Trump deployed National Guard troops to the city. Local law enforcement used tear gas, rubber bullets, and flash bangs to control the crowd. Last night, the police department declared all of downtown LA to be an “unlawful assembly,” ordering demonstrators to leave the area immediately. The good news is that there is a way to resolve this “great difficulty,” one as available to us as our next prayer.
