Nurturing Fatherhood and Self-Discovery After Childhood Adversity with Adam Prince Sep 01, 2023
    Show notes

Adam Prince is a member of Dad Edge Alliance. Some individuals, like Adam Prince, have experienced childhood trauma and instability that can have lasting effects on their lives. Adam opens up about his journey of overcoming these challenges and creating a better future for himself and his family.

In this episode, Adam Prince and Larry discuss the power of overcoming childhood trauma and making a conscious effort to change the game. They dive into the importance of breaking patterns and creating a different life despite challenges. Adam describes his childhood as marked by instability. He moved between several different schools, houses, and apartments, even living in a motel for a period of time. This constant upheaval created a sense of uncertainty and unpredictability in his life.

This conversation between Adam and Larry highlights the importance of acknowledging and overcoming childhood trauma and instability. It is not enough to simply accept these experiences as part of one's identity. Instead, individuals must actively work towards healing, understanding, and breaking the patterns that have been ingrained in them. Adam's story is a powerful example of resilience and the capacity to overcome adversity. Despite the instability and trauma he experienced, he has chosen to take control of his life and create a different path.

Resilience and gratitude are two powerful qualities that can help individuals overcome adversity and find strength in the face of challenges. From a young age, Adam experienced the absence of his biological father, who left when he was little and only reappeared briefly when he was 12. This lack of a stable father figure could have easily left him feeling abandoned and resentful. However, Adam chooses not to dwell on the negative emotions associated with his father's departure. Instead, he focuses on the lessons he learned and the resilience he gained from navigating life without a consistent male presence.

Adam's ability to share his experiences with his own children is a testament to his resilience and gratitude. Rather than shielding them from the realities of his past, he chooses to have open and honest conversations with them. He does not shy away from discussing the hardships he endured but presents them in a matter-of-fact manner. This approach allows his children to see the strength and resilience that can emerge from adversity.

How To Navigate and Overcome the Evil That Pervades Our Society Through Storytelling with Ben Pauling Aug 28, 2023
    Show notes

Ben Pauling is a writer, director, and actor. He is known for his new film Dream (2023), which highlights the issues of child trafficking in America.

In this episode, the host Larry Hagner welcomes guest Ben Pauling to discuss a topic that has been gaining a lot of attention. They briefly touch on Ben's personal life before diving into the main subject. They mention the release of some films and the media's coverage of the issue, which has created a perfect storm for their own film.

Ben Pauling emphasizes that human trafficking is an issue of utmost importance and one that demands immediate attention. He also highlights the need for rescue missions and organizations dedicated to combating this problem. However, despite the efforts of these organizations, less than 1% of trafficked children are currently rescued. This statistic underscores the enormity of the challenge and the urgent need for increased awareness, resources, and action.

Awareness is key in prevention, especially when it comes to the issue of human trafficking. One of the common misconceptions is that human trafficking only happens in certain areas or to certain types of people. However, the reality is that it can occur anywhere, from small towns to large cities, and can affect people from all walks of life. This lack of awareness is dangerous because it allows predators to operate unnoticed and continue their heinous crimes.

By supporting these organizations and advocating for stronger laws and policies, we can contribute to the fight against child trafficking on a larger scale.

Trine Schmidt and Loise HeartHenley are the creators of the Fulfillment Scale, where you learn where you are at on your personal growth journey, how to recognize growth, and how you reach daily fulfillment in everything you do. Their mission is to connect people's hearts and now share their method of 'Time-ins' with everyone so they don't have to walk the journey alone.

In this episode of the Dad Edge podcast, Larry welcomes Trine and Loise, two non-dads from Denmark, to share their perspectives. Loise, a proud mother of four girls and a grandmother, discusses the reactions she receives when people learn about her all-female family.

Larry also shares his own experience of being a father to four boys and the common reactions he receives. Loise emphasizes the importance of self-belief and personal development. Meanwhile, Trine Schmidt echoes the sentiment of self-belief and adds the importance of patience.

Both Trine Schmidt and Loise HeartHenley's advice focuses on the internal aspects of parenting rather than external tactics or strategies. Empowering Resilient Daughters with Markus Kaulius Aug 18, 2023
    Show notes

Markus Kaulius is the founder of Magnum Nutraceuticals, works equally hard on his physique as he does on his business. The hard work and balance between these two endeavors, synergistically have led to success in both areas.

In this episode, Marcus shares his gratitude for being invited and expresses his admiration for Larry's work. He talks about his family, including his wife, whom he considers the best for him, and his two daughters.

The first piece of advice Marcus offers is to not sweat the small stuff and to choose battles wisely. He emphasizes the importance of not getting caught up in minor disagreements or insignificant issues. Instead, he suggests focusing on the bigger picture and selecting battles that truly matter. Choosing battles wisely is an important aspect of maintaining healthy relationships, whether it be in a marriage, friendship, or any other type of connection.

Creating lifelong memories through experiences is a powerful way to strengthen the bond between parents and children. In today's fast-paced and technology-driven world, it is easy for parents and children to become disconnected from each other. One of the key benefits of creating lifelong memories through experiences is the opportunity for quality one-on-one time.

The ability to explain decisions and involve children in the decision-making process is crucial for their development. By communicating effectively, parents can promote critical thinking skills, empower their children, and prepare them for adulthood.

The Power of Bonding through Watching Professional Sports with Tom Dobrez Aug 11, 2023
    Show notes

Tom Dobrez is the author of "Root Root Root for the Home Teams: A Chicago Fan's Odyssey to Find the Meaning of Life Through Sports", an autobiographical account of his life as a sports fan. In this memoir, he examines how sports can teach us about family and success in life.

In this episode of the Dad Edge podcast, Larry Hagner welcomes author Tom Dobrez to discuss his book "Root, Root, Root" and his unique childhood experiences with his father. Tom shares how his dad was not only his baseball coach but also took him and his siblings to professional sporting events in Chicago. This episode offers a heartfelt exploration of the father-son relationship and the impact it can have on a child's life.

Tom describes how his father was their baseball coach, and they would often play organized sports together. However, it was not just organized sports that filled their days. Tom's father built a small ball field in their backyard, providing the perfect setting for their baseball games. The family's love for sports extended to attending professional sporting events, such as Chicago White Sox, Blackhawks, and Bears games. This exposure to sports and outdoor activities created a foundation for Tom's love of sports and physical activity.

Engaging in outdoor play has numerous benefits for children's physical and mental well-being. Outdoor play promotes physical fitness and helps children develop gross motor skills, coordination, and balance. Playing sports and games also teaches children the importance of teamwork, communication, and fair play. Additionally, being outdoors exposes children to fresh air and sunlight, which are essential for overall health and well-being.

Outdoor play also has significant mental health benefits. Being in nature has a calming effect on the mind and reduces stress and anxiety. It allows children to disconnect from technology and experience the natural world around them.

In today's digital age, where children are often glued to screens and have limited opportunities for outdoor play, it is crucial to recognize the importance of outdoor play in childhood. Tom's childhood experiences highlight the joy and benefits of spending time outdoors, engaging in physical activities, and building connections with others.
