Doing Life with The Dad Edge Dec 27, 2018
    Show notes

This is the final episode of Thursday Throwdown for 2018. This was the most successful year yet for The Dad Edge Podcast and The Dad Edge Alliance. We organized our first ever Dad Edge Summit. We received 150 iTunes reviews, 300 members in The Dad Edge Alliance membership, and thousands in our free Facebook group, a judgement and ego-free zone to share the challenges of being a man and a father. Thank you all for doing life with The Dad Edge!

We are going to bring you more amazing guests, content, and resources in 2019 to help you become your best self. We've seen men lose 100 pounds, save hopeless marriages, and rekindle connections with kids. Some guys have quit the jobs they hated to create businesses they love. Others have climbed out of impossible debt. How did they do it? By surrounding themselves with dynamic people, by having support from a group of likeminded men, and by being held accountable for their goals.

Is 2019 going to be the year you make things happen? Or are you going to wait another year?

The Cure for Lone Wolf Syndrome Dec 20, 2018
    Show notes

On Thursday Throwdown, we interview everyday dads. Today, alliance member John Williams is on the show. John used to suffer from lone wolf syndrome. He shouldered his burdens alone and kept his worries to himself. Even though he arrived at a good place in life, something was missing. He knew that a man is the sum of the people closest to him and that he was capable of more. This sparked the search for a tribe to surround himself with.

A rising tide lifts all ships, and by doing life with good men, John has stopped drifting and is now actively shaping his destiny. His wife Ashley also makes a surprise appearance and gives us the lowdown on the changes she has seen in John since he's had men to share the highs and lows with.

    Show notes

Join Larry and Jason MacKenzie as they riff on questions from the Dad Edge communities!

Here's what to look forward to in this episode:

    • How do I mature to where I don't utterly hate my in-laws?
    • How do I gain or maintain confidence while in a marriage that's on the rocks?
    • How do you feel about the success the guys in the Alliance are having?
    • What do you do when you ""climb the wrong ladder" - when you realize you've been working towards the wrong goal?

We also talk about what a terrible idea it is to attach your value as a human being to anything outside yourself.

How to Optimize The Structure of Work, Family, and Fulfillment with Dave Hollis Dec 17, 2018
    Show notes

Can work-life balance ever be achieved?

Our guest today is Dave Hollis, and he says work-life balance is unattainable. There is no such thing because our lives constantly fluctuate. Sometimes, our kids need us. At other times, our marriage requires more attention. Maybe our health has been neglected and we need to focus on taking care of our bodies. There will also be points in our lives where work demands all of our energy. Life is unpredictable and we must be prepared to adapt.

We are stoked to have Dave Hollis on The Dad Edge. Dave worked for Disney for 17 years selling movies like Star Wars and The Avengers to theaters, and he recently left his position to help his wife Rachel develop her business. Dave tells us why he quit what most people would consider a dream job and how he and his wife grow their media company while raising four kids. He also talks about their technique called 'frontloading' to optimize the structure of work, family, and fulfillment for an incredible life.

    Show notes

As men, we often feel alone on our journeys—especially when it comes to parenting. Today's guest is Dad Edge Alliance member, Simon. He talks about how when his wife got pregnant he didn't want to have a boy because it would force him to confront issues he didn't want to deal with. The thought of becoming a parent baffled him, but once his son was born he realized that shedding his former self and embracing the parenting journey came naturally.
