Top 10 Sir Ridley Scott Films Jun 14, 2024

Show notes

Countdown #477

The boys are in fine form this week as they examine the filmography of one cantankerous old man, aka Sir Ridley Scott (or, if you're Paul, just Ridley Scott).

Drawing films from every decade that he's been making films, the lads debate whether he's a truly great film-maker or really more of an exceptional production designer who doesn't know how to edit the scripts he works on.

Is Sir Scott capable of making a tight film? Will Paul offend Blade Runner fans the world over? And which recent guest host rates Prometheus as a better film than Alien?

Learn the answers to all these questions and more, as The Countdown (to 500) continues ...

Bad Boys: Ride or Die review Jun 11, 2024

Show notes

In a film which comes uncomfortably close to mirroring the flagging staying power of The Countdown itself, the boys are this week reviewing Will Slap Smith and Martin Lawrence as they Ride or Die in the fourth Bad Boys film. Wayne is surprisingly down on the film at review's beginning, while perhaps shockingly, Paul seems ready to defend what might fairly be described as a dumb action film. But will they occupy the same position by review's end? And can Wayne, for once, be prepared with his score for a film? Lean the answers to all these questions and more, as The Countdown continues ... Time Stamps: Bad Boys: Ride or Die NON-SPOILER Review: 0:00 - 12:46 Bad Boys: Ride or Die SPOILER-FILLED Discussion: 12:46 - 23:57 Final Thoughts Including Potential Spoilers: 23:57 - 25:27 Check out the show's first draft of a website for your one-stop shop for all things related to The Countdown. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare review Jun 04, 2024

Show notes

Guy Ritchie has hardly been on a roll of late, but he's back with a story line on paper which sounds like an absolute cracker: The Dirty Dozen by way of Inglorious Basterds and based on documented fact... How could it possibly go wrong? Well, let Paul and Wayne - who was so looking forward to this, he about cracked a sad when the film did not hit cinemas in Australia - tell you the multitude of ways that this film is a disappointment ... as The Countdown continues ... It's Paul's turn to get excited as the boys venture across the wasteland, braving marauding bands of cinema-goers, to see the brand new film set in the Mad Max universe, Furiosa! Can the film possibly live up to Paul's eternal love for Fury Road? Will Wayne get over a film's runtime for once in his life? And is this THE film to beat in 2024? Top 10 Train Films May 17, 2024

Show notes

Countdown #474

Choo-choo, everyone! And welcome to the first ever Countdown about trains. Specifically train-based films in honour of listener Ben and his father who recently passed away.

Trains may not be square in the middle of the lads' wheel-house, but they make a pretty good fist of it, layering in enough inappropriate genitalia based humour to ensure that no-one will forget this is, after all, another episode of The Countdown.

With just 26 episodes to go, find out whether Paul manages to crow-bar in another reference to John Farnham (and what he gets called for it), as The Countdown continues ...

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes review May 14, 2024

Show notes

The Apes are back and now 300 years later they run the joint. At least until one Ape group attacks another Ape group and apparently it all stems from, ironically, Apes being together strongly. (Or something.) Anyway, one of the boys doesn't much care for this continuation of the highly regarded Ape film trilogy from last decade, and the other claims to very much enjoy it. At least until you hear his score ... Find out who is whom and whether you should see what kind of wonderful day it is within this cinematic universe, as The Countdown continues ... Time Stamps: Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes NON-SPOILER Review: 0:00 - 12:04 Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes SPOILER-FILLED Discussion: 12:04 - 24:02 Final Thoughts Including Potential Spoilers: 24:02 - 25:45 Check out the show's first draft of a website for your one-stop shop for all things related to The Countdown.
