25 Years of LOTR | Extended Editions Back in Theatres Jan 29, 2026

Show notes

In this special and celebratory episode of The Council of Elrond, we mark 25 years since the release of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and the epic return of the extended editions to cinemas around the world.

Dave and Johnny share their excitement and personal experiences watching The Return of the King back on the big screen, chat about why these films still hit just as hard all these years later, and react to the incredible fan response to the anniversary re-release.

We also have some fun digging into the trilogy’s lasting legacy, box office success, and the magic that keeps drawing us back to Middle-earth.

To top it all off, we look ahead to our upcoming adventure to New Zealand, where the films were brought to life, and talk about the Lord of the Rings filming location guidebook that will be coming with us as we plan to walk in the footsteps of the Fellowship.
