USMNT & USWNT Olympic rosters announced, Copa & Euro roundup, San Diego Wave controversy Jul 08, 2024

Rosters have officially dropped for the United States men’s and women’s soccer team and The Cooligans (minus Alexis) are here to discuss how each squad shapes up, including a notable omission and a controversial inclusion.

Christian Polanco is joined by guest host Christine Cupo of CBS Sports to talk about the disappointment from Diego Luna in getting left off the men’s squad and why his desire not to be an alternate has hindered the team’s bench options. They also get into the addition of Korbin Albert to the women’s side following her controversial actions on social media.

Also on this episode, Christian and Christine give a recap of all the latest action in the Copa América, including Canada making the United States look bad by advancing to the semi-finals after penalty kicks and Uruguay’s manager Marcelo Bielsa’s viral post-match comments.

They then get into the pressure that the England team faced in their matchup with Switzerland when the match had to be decided by penalty kicks. They close the show talking about the controversy surrounding the San Diego Wave FC and President Jill Ellis following allegations of harassment and abuse inside the NWSL club.

USMNT crashes out of the Copa America, Argentina advances on epic shootout against Ecuador Jul 05, 2024

The United States Men’s National Team found themselves saddled with disappointment under manager Gregg Berhalter yet again, this time crashing out of the Copa America in the group stage following their 1-0 loss to Uruguay. While it wasn’t a shocking result given their play in the tournament, not advancing to the knockout stage can only be viewed as just another failure for the USMNT.

Christian Polanco and Alexis Guerreros breakdown the match between the United States and Uruguay, including the complete failure by not getting out of their group, if Gregg Berhalter’s days are numbered at the helm and the cryptic instagram post by former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp that has many thinking about if he could be the next manager for the USMNT.

Also on this episode of The Cooligans, Christian and Alexis talk about the exciting match between Argentina and Ecuador, which saw Lionel Messi’s side advancing in the Copa despite the late heroics by Kevin Rodriguez to force an epic shootout. They then touch on suspensions being handed out to Merih Demiral and Jude Bellingham for their match antics and why Eli Martinez probably won’t be getting a suspension.

USMNT holds the fate of Berhalter’s job vs. Uruguay, England finds a way to survive Jul 01, 2024

The United States Men’s National Team has found themselves in a pretty dire situation as they’re set to face-off with Uruguay on Monday night in their final group match of the Copa America. After a disappointing loss to Panama in their previous match, they now desperately need to find a way to leave with a win in order to have a chance at getting into the next round.

However, much more might potentially be on the line for the US squad.

Christian Polanco and Alexis Guerreros discuss whether USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter’s job is on the line should the United States crash out of the tournament, as well as take a look at how they got into this situation and hope that they weren’t responsible for Tim Weah’s red card in their last match.

Also on this episode of The Cooligans, the guys breakdown the English national team’s performance in their late win against Slovakia to keep their Euro hopes alive, Gareth Southgate’s problem with not fully utilizing his bench and give a stark defense for captain Harry Kane’s performance. There's not much good to say about about the USMNT's 5-1 loss to Colombia ahead of Copa America, but at least Christian got to interview Michelle Akers, Ali Krieger, and Alexis Nunes!

Christian and Alexis are back together in the studio at last and boy do they have a lot to talk about! The guys kick off the show by recapping their respective trips to the Champions League Final and TST, which unsurprisingly included a ton of hilarious stories. Then, they discuss the USMNT's horrific display against Colombia and ask what needs to change ahead of Copa America to ensure we don't get embarrassed while hosting the competition.
