Becoming the complete dad starts with consistently working towards being a more capable, confident, and courageous man. Blended family father of four and veteran teacher, Thomas Kingwell, Joshua Laycock, and their diverse guests peel back the layers as they talk about how we can equip ourselves to become more physically, mentally, and emotionally fit, to love and lead their families effectively. We all want to live an extraordinary life, from the boardroom to the bedroom and out on the mountains, oceans, and lakes. Above all, that takes deep and difficult work. Ready? Let’s go!

    #42 | TRAVER BOEHM | DAD UNCIVILIZED: Fight, F*ck, Feed, Feel...FATHER Mar 10, 2020
    Show notes

You don't want to miss this one guys!

Talking to Traver after reading his book was a real privilege and I know that you will get a huge amount out of our conversation that focuses largely on us as fathers facing the hurts and disappointments of the past and allowing something great to grow out of our wounds. Every man I have interviewed has been better off because of the challenges they have faced and Traver and I delve deep in how we can move towards being more complete as men and the positive impact this will have on our families and all others we come into contact with. It is an honest and open discussion with no holds barred or topic too sacred. Enjoy!

Traver Boehm is the author of the books Today I Rise, and, Man UNcivilized. He’s a two time TEDx speaker and men’s coach, as well as the founder of the UNcivilized Men’s Movement —redefining the way men around the globe experience their masculinity by uniquely blending both the Primal Masculine with the Divine.

Drawing upon an eclectic background ranging from professional bodyguarding and Mixed Martial Arts to Traditional Chinese Medicine and meditation, Traver also teaches humans to skillfully use the inevitable pain of their lives as fuel for growth and positive change.

When not teaching workshops or radically shifting the way men experience their masculinity, Traver can be found chewing on his thumbnail in front of his laptop, chasing surf around the globe, or being reminded that yoga is significantly harder than it looks.

DAD STOIC | CHECK YOURSELF BEFORE YOU WRECK YOURSELF Mar 06, 2020
    Show notes

We make it far harder for ourselves to remain Stoic in the face of the challenges life throws at us, and when we aren't looking after ourselves physically, mentally and spiritually even the smallest things that we thought we had a handle on diminishing our joy and well-being. Inturn this hampers our effectiveness as fathers, husbands, friends and colleagues and makes employing a Stoic approach to life much harder than it could be. That is the story of my week...and now I am paying for being undisciplined, unreflective and inconsistent in how I treat my body and the habits that support my success.

#41 | JASON GARDNER |Making what's obvious on the battlefield more obvious at home Mar 03, 2020
    Show notes

My guest on the podcast today is former NAVY SEAL Jason Gardner. In his 30 years experience, including 9 tours, Jason was Team 5 Commander Master Chief and was awarded a silver star, two bronze stars and a purple heart. Jason learned through some of the hardships that many of us have faced (and others we will not have to because of men like him) how to be an effective husband and father and is learning how to apply the leadership skills he demonstrated on the battlefield to these roles. Jason also shares how Stoicism has and is helping him be calmer, kinder and wiser. We also talk about the myriad of challenges that we have in common with other fathers and how to approach these to achieve the results we desire as dads.

    Taking on toxicity?

Do you "take on" or allow yourself to be impacted by the toxic behaviour of others?

Or are you able to "take on" toxicity by remaining in control of our responses, behaviours and emotional well-being?

“Begin the morning by saying to yourself, I shall meet with the busybody, the ungrateful, arrogant, deceitful, envious, unsocial. All these things happen to them by reason of their ignorance of what is good and evil. … I can neither be injured by any of them, for no one can fix on me what is ugly, nor can I be angry with my kinsman, nor hate him.” - Marcus Aurelius

They say what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and I agree. So do a few important Stoic philosophers.

#40 | BRANDON LILLY | How to stop living with a deficit mindset Feb 25, 2020
    Show notes

“If whining and crying were part of the solution, the world would be perfect.”

These are the sentiments of my guest on the podcast today.

Brandon Lilly is the author of "The Cube Method", and "365STRONG", and he is also ranked as one of the strongest powerlifters of All-Time. He is the host of the Be Legendary Podcast and works closely with his good friend Bert Sorin at Sorinex Exercise equipment. Throughout his career, he has worked with a wide range of professional sportsmen and women as a coach and consultant, from the NFL to the SEAL TEAMS.

As you can tell, Brandon is no stranger to success, but he has also faced his share of adversity. It ultimately threatened to destroy him, but he has since used as fuel to rise again and again to be stronger, not only in a physical sense as was his claim to fame, but emotionally, mentally, spiritually and by finding his tribe and purpose in life as a friend and a father.

It is clear from our conversation that Brandon recognises the significance that being a father plays in his life and that if success that doesn’t align with his ability to serve his family and others, it is of little worth. I trust you will not only enjoy the conversation with Brandon but have a good helping of food for thought after listening that will help you stop living in a life of deficit and start living one of meaning, value and abundance.
