236 Die Hard Part 1 Jul 02, 2021

Show notes

To say that Die Hard is one of Steve and John's favorite movies is an understatement. To say that The Cine-Files didn't come close to doing it justice back in 2016 is a fact. To say that they were thrilled that you picked this movie for them to redo in 2021 is as true as it can be.

Ned Beatty & Superman Jun 25, 2021

Show notes

Are you interested in the early days of The Cine-Files? Then look no further than our exploration of Superman with special guest, Michael Vogel. This was the third episode of the podcast and to say that we didn't know what we were doing was an understatement. However, that didn't stop us from having a fantastic conversation and if you are interested in the versatility and comedic timing of Ned Beatty than this movie, contrasted with Deliverance and Network definitely brings home the point.

Ned Beatty and Network Jun 24, 2021

Show notes

It's no surprise to anyone that actors are often type cast in Hollywood. What is a surprise is that only a couple of years after Ned Beatty was humiliated in his first film, Deliverance, that he was cast as one of the most powerful and intimidating leaders in corporate America. Arthur Jenson is on screen for less than five minutes but the impression he leaves is as indelible as it is disturbing.

Show notes

We all know Steve has a tough time ranking stuff but John finally convinced him to do it and the result is an absolutely fantastic conversation. Of course, what make this live episode even better is the myriad of Cine-Files Announcements from the tribute to Ned Beaty next week to 2021's Cine-Files redo to the announcement of next month's Cine-Files Live.

In a complete break from Cine-Files traction, next month's live show will be devoted to the Films of Steve Morris with a focus on The Assistants which now, for the first time, is available for free on YouTube.

Shorts Compilation #4 Jun 04, 2021

Show notes

Every week on https://www.patreon.com/TheCineFiles, John and Steve release brief (and sometimes not so brief) conversations that we call "Cine-Files Shorts". Most of the topics are chosen by the patrons themselves and they have covered everything from movies and TV, actors, directors and fans to food, sports, travel, and philosophy. We have some great conversations lately and thought we'd release four of our favorites so you can hear a sample of what's available on Patreon.

233 Moneyball Part 2 May 28, 2021

Show notes

This week John and Steve return to the Oakland Colosseum to watch one of the most improbably teams in the history of baseball break one of the leagues most important records, a 20 game win streak. More importantly the A's win those 20 games and make it to the playoffs with one of the smallest payrolls in the league.

232 Moneyball Part 1 May 21, 2021

Show notes

Back in January we asked you which movie from 2011 you wanted us to dig into first in 2021. Your answer, by the slimmest of possible margins, was Moneyball. Moneyball is as unlikely a movie as the A’s were to become a great team and yet it manages to be funny, heartfelt, and very thought provoking.
