He is the author of the new book America: The Farewell Tour.

Hedges is also the author of other award winning books including Empire of Illusion: The End of Literacy and the Triumph of Spectacle, Death of a Liberal Class, War Is a Force That Gives Us Meaning, American Fascists: The Christian Right and the War on America, and Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt.

Hedges explains how the Michael Cohen hearings before Congress are just another symptom of how America's political leaders--both Democrats and Republicans--are corrupt and live in their own reality, why Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar are hated for telling too much truth, and warns about the strangle hold that Christian fascists have over the United States through theor unholy alliance with Donald Trump.

And Chris Hedges is also very direct about how Bernie Sanders has a "race problem", one that is fundamentally rooted in the fact that most white liberals actually have no real and meaningful relationships with black people or other nonwhites.

On this week's show, Chauncey DeVega reflects on another seven days in this malignant reality which included the Leaving Neverland documentary about the likely sex deviant Michael Jackson, the banality of evil on full display with Trump's henchwoman Kirstjen Nielsen's testimony before Congress about concentration camps for brown and black children, and how Trump is a necromancer who wins the White House again in 2020 because his supporters think he is a tool of God.

There are two guests on this week's episode of The Chauncey DeVega Show.

Vegas Tenold is the author of the new book Everything You Love Will Burn: Inside the Rebirth of White Nationalism in America. He is an award-winning journalist who has covered the far right in America for years, as well as human rights in Russia, conflict in central Africa and the Middle East, and national security. A graduate of Columbia University's School of Journalism, his work has appeared in publications including the New York Times, Rolling Stone, New Republic, and Al Jazeera America.

Vegas spent 6 years embedded inside white supremacist and other white terrorist hate organizations. He shares his on the ground perspective and experience in Charlottesville during the white supremacist riot which killed Heather Heyer, what white supremacists actually envision for their ideal white "ethnostate", their delusions about "white identity" and "white European unity", as well as the ways that racism, whiteness, and toxic violent masculinity intersect. Vegas also offers some stories about how young white men (and women) are radicalized into joining white racist terrorist organizations.

Last Sunday, Kevin Willmott won an Oscar for his work writing Spike Lee's film BlacKkKlansman. Kevin is also a friend of The Chauncey DeVega Show. This is our victory lap. From the archives several months ago.

Kevin Willmott is a professor of film at The University of Kansas. He is also one of the writers on Spike Lee's great new film BlacKkKlansman. Kevin and Chauncey discuss the surreal truth of how Ron Stallworth, a black man, teamed up with a fellow police officer, who is Jewish, to infiltrate the Ku Klux Klan. Kevin also reflects on how BlacKkKlansman is a direct counter to the racism and bigotry of Trump's America, W.E.B. Du Bois' concept of "double consciousness", blaxploitation films and the desperation of hate mongers. Chauncey and Kevin also share what happened when they watched BlacKkKlansman in a theater with white Donald Trump supporters.

On this week's show, Chauncey DeVega reflects on how politics and popular culture overlap in the form of the white savior film--and Oscar winner for best picture--Green Book and the multigenre spectacle that was Trump's personal fixer Michael Cohen's testimony before the House. Chauncey also explains the role played by paid for black conservative human prop Lynne Patton in the role of "best black friend" in a Trump racism romantic comedy.

Ep. 224: How Black Americans Used the Sears Catalog to Fight Back Against Jim and Jane Crow Racism Feb 14, 2019

Professor Louis Hyman is a historian of work and business at the ILR School of Cornell University, where he also directs the Institute for Workplace Studies in New York City. He has published two books on the history of personal debt (Debtor Nation and Borrow) and a history of how American work became so insecure (Temp).

Several months ago Louis wrote a series of Twitter posts which were read by millions of people about the "hidden history" of how African-Americans used the Sears catalog as a way of fighting back against Jim and Jane Crow white racism and white supremacy.

Professor Hyman explains how the consumer's republic was and remains a key battleground for civil rights and the color line, the many ways that black Americans used the Sears catalog as a way of participating in day-to-day resistance against segregation and other types of discrimination across the United States, and how Sears and America's suburban mall culture were sites where whiteness was both reproduced and defended. Louis also debunks the very popular (and empowering) myth that Sears was co-founded by a black man.

On this week's show, Chauncey DeVega reflects on Ralph Ellison's "Invisible Man" and a recent experience with everyday racism. And in keeping with the theme of this week's show Chauncey also shares a wonderful story about the nationwide network of Sears retirees who gather on a regular basis to socialize, reconnect, and who are keeping the wonderful legacy of that American cultural and retail institution alive.

Eddie Glaude Jr. is the William S. Tod Professor of Religion and African American Studies at Princeton University. His publications include Democracy in Black: How Race Still Enslaves the American Soul and In a Shade of Blue: Pragmatism and the Politics of Black America. In 2006, he worked with Cornel West to develop a public online course called the "Covenant Curriculum: A Study of Black Democratic Action."

Professor Glaude has also written for The New York Times, The Huffington Post, and Time, and he has appeared on the Tavis Smiley Show, Hannity & Colmes, MSNBC, CNN, and C-SPAN.

Professor Glaude explains the lessons of the Black Freedom Struggle for surviving in a time of disaster that is Donald Trump's presidency, how not to surrender to despair in this moment, developing a more sophisticated way to discuss race and social inequality, and how Black Pragmatism and black folks' "Blues Sensibility" are tools for living and maintaining our moral virtue.

On this week's show, Chauncey DeVega explains why Donald Trump's State of the Union address was (another) vile, violent, and dangerous threat to democracy and the American people.

Chauncey is also disgusted by how the American people continue to aid and abet Donald Trump and the Republican Party's evil treatment of brown and black children from Latin and South America who have been "disappeared" into concentration camps.

David explains how sports are inherently political, why Colin Kaepernick is viewed as such a threat by the NFL and White America, Black Lives Matter and "taking a knee" at sporting events, the black athlete as a social and political figure, the insincere and problematic neoliberal politics of Nike's 30th anniversary "courage" ad campaign, as well as Tim Tebow, white privilege and hypocrisy.

On this week's show, Chauncey DeVega challenges the myth of billionaires and capitalism as uplifting the world's poor and being saviors for humanity and shares how Donald Trump is now the White House sex tour guide who lies (ever always, again and often) about Barack Obama. Chauncey then reads some hate mail as he reflects on the fallout from his series of widely read essays on the Covington High School Catholic Teen Magaites and white privilege.

At the end of this week's show, Chauncey shares two happy stories.

There are two guests on this week's episode of The Chauncey DeVega Show.

Yale University historian and New York Times-bestselling author Timothy Snyder returns to The Chauncey DeVega Show. He is the author of "On Tyranny" and the new book "The Road to Unfreedom".

Dr. Snyder explains how Donald Trump will--like other dictators and authoritarians--use his "national emergency" to overthrow American democracy and the Constitution, why "states of exception" are so very dangerous for democracies, and how the government shutdown reflects the right-wing's fake "populism" and mix of sadism and public policy to maintain power over their followers.

The second guest is Dr. John Feffer. He is the director of Foreign Policy in Focus at the Institute for Policy Studies. In 2012-13, he was also an Open Society Fellow looking at the transformations that have taken place in Eastern Europe since 1989. Dr. Feffer is the author of several books and numerous articles. His latest non-fiction book is Aftershock: A Journey into Eastern Europe's Broken Dreams. He is also the author of the dystopian novel, Frostlands, the stand-alone sequel to Splinterlands.

Dr. Feffer explains the key global societal fissures which will create the dystopic world of the year 2050, how Americans and other people are buying into their own surrender and domination through "participatory totalitarianism", the ways that the corporate state will find a balance between pleasure and pain to control the public and subvert democracy, and what if anything can be done to stop the disaster(s) on the horizon which will create what he describes as "Spinterlands".

On this week's show, Chauncey DeVega ponders how cultural and personal malaise has kept the American people from engaging in massive resistance to Donald Trump, the Republican Party and their neo fascist movement.
