    The Chaplain’s Chair

The Chaplain’s Chair is a distinctly Christian podcast about faith, life, and the conversations that matter. Author and Christian board-certified chaplain Tim Lajoie shares stories and reflections drawn from hospice rooms, correctional institutions, ministry, leadership, and everyday life. Together we’ll explore grief, hope, forgiveness, human dignity, second chances, difficult questions, and what biblical truth has to say when life gets real. There won’t always be easy answers, but there will always be honest conversation. Chaplain care is soul care.

What to Say to Someone Who Is Grieving: Comfort, Faith, and Listening Oct 19, 2026
    Show notes

When someone you care about loses a loved one, you want to offer comfort. But what should you say—and why might the same words comfort one person and hurt another?

In this episode of The Chaplain’s Chair, I draw on my experiences with personal loss, pastoral training, and hospice chaplaincy to explore how we can support a grieving friend with compassion. We’ll consider familiar expressions like “time heals all wounds,” why relationship and timing matter, and how well-intentioned advice can unintentionally tell someone how they ought to feel.

Reflecting on Romans 12:15 and the Christian hope we have in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we’ll consider why faith doesn’t erase sorrow—and why people who share the same faith may still grieve differently.

If you’re unsure how to help someone who is grieving, join me as we consider the value of listening, being present, and making room for memories, tears, laughter, or silence. You don’t have to find the perfect words to care for someone who is hurting.

Does Your Past Have to Define Your Future? Oct 16, 2026
    Show notes

Have you made mistakes that still affect your life today? Do you struggle with regret, poor decisions, a troubled past, or the feeling that you'll never be able to change? Does your past have to define your future?

In this episode of The Chaplain's Chair, Christian chaplain Tim Lajoie explores what the Bible teaches about second chances, personal transformation, accountability, and finding a new beginning through Jesus Christ.

Drawing on his experience in jail mentoring and aftercare, Tim examines the Apostle Paul's remarkable transformation from persecutor of Christians to preacher of the Gospel. Discover why your past mistakes don't have to determine your future, why genuine change requires responsibility, and what it really means to become a new creation in Christ.

You cannot rewrite yesterday, but through God's grace, you can begin living differently today.

What If God Doesn't Give You What You Prayed For? Oct 14, 2026
    Show notes

Have you ever prayed for something desperately important, only to feel that God wasn't answering? Maybe you've prayed for healing, a struggling marriage, a loved one, or a situation that seems impossible to change. What happens to your faith when God doesn't give you what you prayed for?

In this episode of The Chaplain's Chair, Chaplain Tim Lajoie explores what the Bible teaches about unanswered prayer, trusting God's will, and finding strength when life doesn't turn out as expected.

Through the experiences of the Apostle Paul and Jesus in Gethsemane, discover why unanswered prayers don't necessarily mean God isn't listening, why faith isn't a guarantee of getting what we want, and how God's grace can sustain us through life's most difficult circumstances.

When God doesn't change your circumstances, it doesn't mean He's abandoned you.

Can You Forgive Someone Who Isn't Sorry? Oct 12, 2026
    Show notes

What do you do when someone hurts you but refuses to apologize?

Can you forgive someone who isn't sorry—and does forgiveness mean you have to trust them again?

In this episode of The Chaplain's Chair, Chaplain Tim Lajoie explores what the Bible teaches about forgiveness, repentance, reconciliation, and letting go of resentment.

Discover why forgiving someone doesn't excuse their actions, why reconciliation isn't always possible, and how extending forgiveness can free you from bitterness—even when the person who hurt you never asks for it.

You may never receive the apology you deserve. But you don't have to spend the rest of your life waiting for it.

Can God Forgive Me? Oct 09, 2026
    Show notes

Have I gone too far for God to forgive me?

Many people carry a quiet fear that something in their past has permanently separated them from God. Maybe they’ve avoided prayer, stayed away from church, or convinced themselves that forgiveness is available for other people—but not for them.

In this episode of The Chaplain’s Chair, we look at what the Bible says about God’s mercy, forgiveness, repentance, and restoration. If you’ve ever wondered whether you can come back to God after years away—or after something you thought was unforgivable—this episode is for you.

I'm Good with the Lord Oct 07, 2026
    Show notes

What does it really mean to say, “I’m good with the Lord”?

As a Christian chaplain, I’ve heard those words from people facing serious illness, grief, uncertainty, and the end of life. In this episode of The Chaplain’s Chair, we explore Christian faith, salvation, assurance, grace, and what it means to have genuine peace with God.

Whether you’re facing your own difficult season or walking alongside someone you love, this conversation offers a biblical perspective on faith, spiritual care, and the questions that matter when life gets serious.

You Don’t Always Know What God Is Doing Oct 05, 2026
    Show notes

Why doesn’t God always show us what He is doing?

There are seasons when prayers seem unanswered, circumstances make little sense, and we can’t see where God is leading. In this episode of The Chaplain’s Chair, we explore Christian faith, trusting God in difficult times, unanswered prayer, and what the Bible teaches about walking by faith when we cannot see the whole picture. Sometimes faith isn’t understanding what God is doing—it’s trusting Him when we don’t.

Why Am I Always Waiting for Something to Go Wrong? | Worry, Fear, and Trusting God Oct 02, 2026
    Show notes

Do you ever find yourself worrying about something bad happening even when everything is fine?

A late-night phone call, a message from your boss, an unanswered text, or an upcoming doctor’s appointment can send your mind racing toward the worst possible outcome. In this episode of The Chaplain’s Chair, Tim Lajoie explores why we anticipate trouble, the difference between responsible preparation and worry, and what Jesus teaches about fear, uncertainty, and tomorrow.

Drawing from Matthew 6 and Philippians 4, Tim looks at a practical Christian response to worry that doesn't pretend bad things never happen. Instead, it asks a simple question: Are you dealing with something that has actually happened, or suffering through something that exists only in your imagination?

You don't have to experience tomorrow's trouble twice.

When Did My Life Become Just Getting Through the Day? | Finding Purpose in the Routine Sep 30, 2026
    Show notes

Does life ever feel like nothing more than work, responsibilities, bills, sleep, and doing it all over again tomorrow?

Nothing may be terribly wrong, yet somewhere along the way life can become a routine we simply get through instead of something we intentionally live. In this episode of The Chaplain’s Chair, Tim Lajoie explores what the Bible says about purpose, time, attention, and making our everyday lives count.

Drawing from Ephesians, Psalms, and the teachings of Jesus, this episode isn't about becoming busier or squeezing more productivity into your day. It's about paying attention to the life God has already given you and asking a different question at the end of the day:

Did I actually live the day I was given?

I Screwed Up. Now What? | Dealing With Guilt, Regret, and the Past Sep 28, 2026
    Show notes

How do you live with guilt and regret after you’ve done something you can’t undo?

Some mistakes can be corrected. Others leave consequences that an apology, sobriety, changed behavior, or even genuine repentance cannot erase. In this episode of The Chaplain’s Chair, Tim Lajoie talks about guilt, forgiveness, taking responsibility, making amends, and learning how to live differently after you’ve seriously screwed up.

Drawing from years of encounters with people in corrections, at the end of life, and during other broken places in life, Tim looks at Jesus’ encounter with the woman caught in adultery in John 8 and the challenging words that followed His mercy: “Go, and sin no more.”

You may not be able to change what happened. The question is: What does obedience look like from here?
