Jamestown: Legend of the Lost Colony – Cane and Rinse No.224 Jun 05, 2016
    Show notes

Inspired by the arcade games of CAVE and Treasure, the modern day Manic Shoot 'Em Up has found a home in the living room. Final Form Games' 2011 shmup, Jamestown has Bullet Hell hallmarks, but its unusual setting, structure and soundtrack piqued the collective interests of James, Ryan, Tony and special guest, genre specialist Simon Cole. Titanfall – Cane and Rinse No.223 May 29, 2016
    Show notes

Titanfall landed just over two years ago, the much anticipated first product of former Infinity Ward devs, Respawn Entertainment. Although closely associated with Xbox One (and perhaps therefore unfortunately, that particular console's controversial launch), the game also arrived on PC and 360. Leon, Josh, Karl and guest David Turner of The Computer Game Show strap in and chew over what they enjoyed about this fast-paced future FPS, with its unusual blend of parkour and in-mech action. We also hear from the Cane and Rinse community, giving voice to at least one naysayer, representing that section of the audience who felt that the game revealed its hand too early, burned bright and died young. Music used in this issue: Track 1: Wallrunner by Stephen Barton Track 2: Cosmology by Stephen Barton Cane and Rinse 223 was edited by Sean O'Brien Do you have an opinion about a game we're covering that you'd like read out on the podcast? The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask – Cane and Rinse No.222 May 22, 2016
    Show notes

In our sixth podcast covering Nintendo's fantasy series, we come to 2000's The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. Leon, Ryan, Michiel Kroder (as well as an audio contribution from Leah Haydu) are your panel as we attempt to cram everything we need to say about this densest of games into a single three day cycle. Eiji Aonuma's full directorial debut provokes a wide array of responses to the game's various, often unusual facets. Of course we also consider the significant and substantial changes made to the game by GREZZO and Nintendo for the 2015 3DS rerelease of the game. Please note: We had so much to say about this particular game and so did our community. As such - in order to stick to our self-imposed two hour time limit for the podcast - a swathe of fascinating listener correspondence is now available as a "podcast offcut" over on the Cane and Rinse YouTube channel. Do check it out. Music used in this issue: Track 1: Title Theme by Koji Kondo. Track 2: Last Day by Koji Kondo. Track 3: Mayor's Meeting by Koji Kondo. Cane and Rinse 222 was edited by Ryan Hamann

Gunstar Heroes – Cane and Rinse No.221 May 15, 2016
    Show notes

Breakaway studio Treasure launched its first game in 1993, Gunstar Heroes. Formed of some of Konami's crack Super Nintendo coders, Treasure rapidly built its reputation on this hectic, sometimes surreal sprite and special effects-heavy run and gunner for SEGA's 16-bit Mega Drive/Genesis. Leon, along with a panel of enthusiasts - Michiel Kroder, Dan Clark and Simon Cole - discuss both the original game, its various ports and versions as well as 2005 GBA sequel Gunstar Super Heroes (aka Gunstar Future Heroes). Music used in this issue: Track 1: Gunstar Heroes - Title by Norio Hanzawa Track 2: Gunstar Heroes - Ending by Norio Hanzawa Cane and Rinse 221 was edited by Jay Taylor Do you have an opinion about this particular game or maybe about our podcast in general? RAGE – Cane and Rinse No.220 May 08, 2016
    Show notes

Darren, Karl and Sean discuss RAGE, a game from a fascinating time in id Software's history. The then brand new id Tech 5 engine rendering a 'MegaTextured' post-cataclysmic wasteland is the setting as we converse at length about what it's like to drive, shoot and craft in RAGE. Does the aesthetic live up to id's previous work? Do MegaTextures matter? And just how did they get away with a competitive multiplayer mode which isn't first-person shooting? Music used in this issue: Track 1: Attack of the Mutants by Rod Abernethy Track 2: The Well by Rod Abernethy Cane and Rinse 220 was edited by Sean O'Brien Do you have an opinion about this particular game or maybe about our podcast in general? Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 – Cane and Rinse No.219 May 01, 2016
    Show notes

"Josh and Ryan, along with special guests Leah Haydu and Jerome McIntosh, enter the mysterious dark hour and explore every nook and cranny of ominous edifice Tartarus. This isn't the first time we've gotten to know some Japanese high school students, with unusual extra curricula activities. However, this group's tale proves to be considerably darker than one found within issue 80. So grab your evoker and prepare for some Mass Destruction, as we discuss Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3." Music used in this issue: Track 1: Because I Will Protect You by Shoji Meguro Track 2: Memories of you by Shoji Meguro, vocals by Yumi Kawamura Cane and Rinse 219 was edited by Jay Taylor Do you have an opinion about this particular game or maybe about our podcast in general? Conker’s Bad Fur Day – Cane and Rinse No.218 Apr 24, 2016
    Show notes

Darren, Ryan, Cane and Rinse débutante Michiel Kroder and returning guest Jon Salmon discuss the potty-mouthed squirrel before, after and around the rather unorthodox platformer, Conker's Bad Fur Day. Focusing mainly on the original N64 comedy adventure, we discuss how a Scouse dung beetle sounds to non-English players, we consider what's it like to play the game for the first time in 2016 and whether the jokes stand the test of time fifteen years on. We also touch upon the Xbox 360 remake Conker: Live & Reloaded and its differences and maybe, possibly, speak about a giant opera-singing poo. Oh, and some Three Word Reviews, too! I mean, it'd be foolish of us not to, right? P.S. Contains bleeped swears. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time – Cane and Rinse No.217 Apr 17, 2016
    Show notes

In which a panel of Leon, Darren, Karl and Leah Haydu consider what the fifth The Legend of Zelda title brought to both the series and videogaming in general. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remains one of the best-reviewed games in the history of the medium, but how do we feel about the game some 18 years after its Nintendo 64 launch? As well as our own perspectives - then and now - of versions older and newer, we also hear from members of the Cane and Rinse community, including some heartwarming Ocarina of Time memories, some tales of inspiration provided by the game and a dozen Three Word Reviews. Following on from our earlier Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain podcasts, we turn our attention to Quantic Dreams' interactive drama action-adventure - Beyond: Two Souls. Tony, Jay, Sean and Karl discuss the 2013 release, the hype surrounding it and whether it delivers on its promise of an emotionally engaging experience?
