Stay ConnectedThe Canadian Gothic uncovers Canada’s most mysterious, unusual, and fascinating stories.
The show dives deep into true crime, unsolved disappearances, paranormal encounters, and bizarre events using a blend of meticulous research, archival audio, interviews, and firsthand accounts.
Each episode, whether a standalone mystery or part of an ongoing series, offers a richly woven narrative that brings Canada’s most enigmatic cases to life.
Nova Scotia, April 18-19, 2020
Over a period of thirteen hours 51 year old denturist Gabriel Wortman, dressed as a police officer and driving a replica police car, carried out Canada’s most deadly act of mass murder. In this ongoing series Nighttime will explore the many elements of this tragic story. What happened, why it happened, and what could have been done to stop him.
In this episode, I avoid the many rabbit holes and contested facts to present an abridged telling of the “official” version of the Nova Scotia Mass Shooting.

Unexpectedly, but not completely surprisingly, I received an email from a very excited lady from Quebec who claimed to have filmed some odd objects hovering in the sky near her home.
She didn’t believe they planes or helicopters… Belia was convinced she witnessed something very unique and she wanted my opinion on the footage she captured.
The video (which I’ve since enhanced and added to the Nighttime YouTube Channel) shows several bright, slow moving objects, travelling above the Ottawa river.
It stumped me right off the bat and that doesn’t usually happen. Perhaps that’s why I wanted to figure this one out and I’m gonna take you along for the journey.
We are going to start by meeting Belia, the very excited lady who filmed the objects behind her home and then we will take the video, and her eye witness account to Celebrated Canadian UFO researcher Chris Rutkowski for an expert analysis.
In this episode of nighttime, I’m going to be considering the Nov 20th UFO sighting above Luskville, Quebec

11 year old Geraldine Settee was last seen leaving her home with some change in her pocket and a craving for a snack from a neighbourhood drug store a short, safe, walk away.
When Geraldine didn't return within the expected time, her father grew worried and worry turned to panic when he learned the drugstore wasn't even open that evening.
Where is Geraldine?
A gruesome discovery the next morning would answer that question, create many more, and forever change the Settee family.
In this episode of nighttime, We will be joined by the hosts of True North True Crime for a discussion surrounding this horrific case.

In this episode of nighttime, We will be joined by Geraldine's nephew and our topic is the unsolved murder of Geraldine Settee.

Nothing brings life to the Halloween spirit like a good ghost story, and no one tells a ghost story like Steve Vernon.
Longtime listeners will know Steve well. He's a favorite author of mine and has joined us several times in the past to share his unique style of storytelling.
Just a few nights back, Steve and I ventured into one of Halifax's many forests for a night of storytelling.
I brought my microphone, and Steve brought a flashlight and a book of his stories.
In this episode I'll take you along with me for three chilling tales from haunted Nova Scotia written and read by Steve Vernon.
the Haunting of Esther Cox
Digby, Nova Scotia; the site of the stirring curtains
the Mare of McNabb’s Island

Incels are the online community, made up predominantly of men, who define their identity in the fact that they are involuntarily celibate. the Incel subculture, as regular listeners of Nighttime know, doesn't just wallow in misogynism, self pity, and entitlement in the internet’s dark corners..
Some self identifing Incels have seen their inability to get laid as justification to commit horrific acts of mass murder...
It's a twisted, dark, and very troubling community, but it's also fascinating and I think it's worth exploring.
To help guide us along the way, I invited a colleague from the world of podcasting to join me.
In this episode we are going to explore the strange and dark world of the self described INCELS (involuntary celibate). Our guest is journalist/podcast creator Naama Kates (host of the Incel Project).

In 1986 my grandparents Eddie and Theresa were driving on a rural road in the highlands of Cape Breton Island.
When a strange object appeared above their car, their lives were never the same,.
In this episode, my best friend Randy will join me in a discussion, and a bit of an update, about the first story I've ever covered on nighttime.
