The Context of White Supremacy (C.O.W.S.) Radio Program welcomes Dr. Donald G. Mathews. A University of North Carolina Professor Emeritus of History, Dr. Mathews's research explores memory and violence - especially the Lynching of black people in the U.S. We'll discuss his book, At the Altar of Lynching: Burning Sam Hose in the American South. Gus found this book while roaming through the University of Washington library. While searching for a book on the lynching of Zachariah Walker, I found Dr. Mathews's work on Sam Hose. The book describes how the protection of White Woman, the threat of black veterans and the preservation of White Supremacy demanded that Sam Hose (Tom Wilkes) be slaughtered. We'll discuss the homoerotic bonding that occurred between White Men who hunted Hose. We'll also discuss White male rape of black females and the consistent refusal of Whites to acknowledge centuries of Racist molestation. We also observed the recent legislation regarding anti lynching. We’ll use these sessions to hone our use of words as tools to reveal truth, neutralize White people. We’ll examine news reports from the past seven days and – hopefully – promote a constructive dialog. #ANTIBLACKNESS The conflict in the Ukraine remains unresolved, including non-white migrants reporting White Supremacy and mistreatment at border checkpoints. Supreme Court Justice nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson continues to wait to see if the mostly White members of Congress will allow her to join the SCOTUS. A California task force approved reparations to individuals who can prove they are descendants of black slaves in the U.S. This and practically all other news was dwarfed by the 94th Academy Awards show. A show many had no interest in viewing. Until... #ToxicBlackMasculinity Chris Rock (Bring The Pain 1996; "Pookie" from New Jack City 1991) hosted the event and made disparaging remarks about a number of people. This included ridiculing the hair loss of Will Smith's longtime wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. Video seemed to show Mr. Smith open hand slap Rock in the face. Everyone in the universe has commented on the criminal, violent (raping), barbaric nature of the black male. Will Smith actually won an Oscar for his role as Richard Williams in the extraordinary biopic King Richard, but that's been buried. Smith resigned from the Academy and may face further sanctions. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly forum on Neutralizing Workplace Racism. Spring is here and Covid-19's on the wane - or at least it's being reported that infection rates have dropped substantially over the past month. Many folks are being asked to return to the officer. Countless black workers who've been working remotely (and loving it) dread returning to their White Supremacist colleagues. The folks who've been commuting to the workplace the whole time continue dealing with the usual suspects. We'll work to assist a black educator who's nearing completion of her graduate program. As usual, White instructors are combative, rude and unhelpful when asked to clarify information. We'll discuss the best way to get that diploma with the fewest White obstacles. We'll also give reminders about wardrobe in the workplace. Gus would recommend not being too casual when returning to the office. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the third study session on Essie Mae Washington-Williams' Dear Senator: A Memoir by the Daughter of Strom Thurmond. Having read three chapters of the book and conducted a smidgen of research, it seems equally incredible or embarrassing for a White college professor like J. Russell Hawkins to be ignorant about Strom Thurmond raping and impregnating a teenage black female. #WhitePeopleLieALot From the time Thurmond died in 2003, countless news reports acknowledged that Carrie Butler was a child at the time Thurmond raped her. Last week, Ms. Essie Mae describes returning to South Carolina for the first time since her birth. Stunningly, the first part of her trip is branded by repeated sightings of clusters of lame, impotent, out of work, unsheltered black males. This omnipresent band of brothers only found purpose when employed to clean and groom White property. Once in the Palmetto state, Carrie Butler took 16-year-old Essie Mae to meet her father, Strom Thurmond. The White man didn't acknowledge her as his daughter. The astronomical confusion produced from all of this cannot be overstated. Carrie Butler and her sister Mary describe the "tragic arrangement" with Thurmond as "falling love." The siblings conclude that Thurmond's rantings are just "politics." They detail the South Carolina tradition of White men proudly raping teenage black girls (and boys) at will. The Context of White Supremacy (C.O.W.S.) Radio Program welcomes the return of Dr. Gerald Horne. Currently employed at the University of Houston holding the Moores Professorship of History and African American Studies, Dr. Horne is a distinguished scholar, prolific author and historian. We've read his biography of Paul Robeson and discussed his fascinating study of professional boxing and White Supremacy (The Bittersweet Science). Speaking of The C.O.W.S. book club, we recently completed Philip K. Dick's #TheMan in the High Castle. One of the Asian characters is mockingly called "Tojo." Gus was ignorant about Tojo until Retired Firefighter informed me about former Japanese General Hideki Tojo, who was executed as a war criminal following World War II. Gus flipped to Dr. Horne's Race War!: White Supremacy and the Japanese Attack on the British Empire and felt guilty for not having already read this extraordinary book. General Tojo is mentioned a few times. Dr. Horne details the counter-racist motivations that led Japan to battle Britain, the U.S... White people. Horne describes how central the theme of global White Supremacy is for the duration of the conflict. He gives fascinating data on the psychological wounds inflicted on Whites when Japan defeated the British - which resulted in some White men wearing dresses! Prince William and Kate Middleton were met with protests and calls for reparations during their visit to Jamaica this week. Prince William said he was really sorry. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly forum on Neutralizing Workplace Racism. For years, Gus T. had blathered: "Sobriety Would Be Best." A recent report concluded that reckless use of liquor is responsible for over 200 million missed days of work. All indicators suggest alcohol consumption has increased during the years of the Covid-19 pandemic. This is another reminder of why we should avoid "happy hour" or any other invitations to consume alcohol during or after work or with colleagues. We'll also discuss the growing clamor to have all workers return to the office. Fear of Covid-19 combined with astronomical gas prices make many employees uninterested in a prompt return to the daily commute. We also discuss scathing allegations against the Tesla factory in Fremont, California. Black workers report being called niggras on a constant basis. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the second study session on Essie Mae Washington-Williams' Dear Senator: A Memoir by the Daughter of Strom Thurmond. **Unfortunately, a tech issue caused distortion in Gus's audio during the middle portion of the broadcast. The problem was corrected before the end of the program.** Gus was really excited to read a different book, but then Dr. J. Russell Hawkins made some likely Racist commentary about not knowing that Senator Thurmond raped a black child and omitting this sexual deviance from his book. Dr. Hawkins mentions Sen. Thurmond throughout his book, documenting the countless letters White parents mailed the lawmaker to voice their fears that their daughters would be ravaged by black school boys. Dr. Hawkins' conduct is repeated by Whites collectively. Last week, Ms. Essie Mae describes growing up in Coatesville, Pennsylvania thinking that she knew her mother and father. Then one day at 13, Carrie Butler informed her that she wasn't her "aunt," but, rather, her mother. Ms. Essie Mae details the challenges and joy of bonding with her mother while still clueless about her real father. She graphically describes the 1911 lynching of Zachariah Walker, which happened a few years before her birth and greatly traumatized her black caregivers and neighbors. She also details attending a separate school exclusively for black children and how the experience branded White superiority into her psyche. The Context of White Supremacy's monthly Global Sunday Talk on Racism. This broadcast is intended to encourage participation from non-white people in different parts of the world and Victims of Racism who are not able to join during the normal broadcast time. World attention is focused on the #WhiteOnWhiteCrime with the Russian invasion on the Ukraine. News outlets from around the globe report that black and non-white refugees have been blocked from sanctuary and subject to White Supremacy at the borders. We'll discuss how these events are impacting daily activities across Europe. We'll also discuss President Joe Biden's warning if the non-white people in China involve themselves in the White squabble in the Ukraine. In London, reports revealed that in 2020, a 15-year old black female was accused of cannabis possession and strip-searched. Apparently, the black girl was on her menstrual cycle and was required to remove her sanitary towel, spread her cheeks, and cough. We’ll examine news reports from the past seven days and – hopefully – promote a constructive dialog. #ANTIBLACKNESS In the U.S., Whites moved the clocks ahead one hour, mimicking the late Biz Markie's call that: spring is here. Incidentally, the US Senate passed legislation that could make daylight savings time permanent. Tennis season is rolling strong, and world champion Naomi Osaka broke down into tears after being heckled by White spectators during a match at the BNP Paribas Open, formerly Indian Wells. Osaka commented that she was especially pained because she knew the history of Venus and Serena Williams being terrorized at this same venue in 2001. Ironically, Osaka's opponent, Veronika Kudermetova, is a "Russian national," but she was not jeered. Reports of the Russian invasion of Ukraine continue, as do reports of flagrant White Supremacy being practiced against non-white refugees of this region. Ukranian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy asked the mostly White members of the U.S. Congress to step up their help in countering Russian aggression.
