Ep.24 - Guest: CHRIS LOCKE Oct 08, 2023

Show notes

A fun and hilarious chat with comedian/actor/good guy Chris Locke. We talk about good things, evil things, random things, and old detectives. He and I have both played detectives in feature films - me in No Clue, and he in the upcoming, newly released WHO'S YOUR FATHER? Give us a listen. It's good for you, probably.

Ep.23 - Guest: KATIE-ELLEN HUMPHRIES Jun 20, 2023

Show notes

Anytime I get the chance to sit down and shoot the breeze with Katie-Ellen Humphries, it's always an absolute... and I don't use this word lightly... a delight!!! I highly recommend it, if you ever get the chance. But if that opportunity doesn't come your way, I have thoughtfully recorded a delightful chat that you can avail yourself of right here on this episode of TheButtpod. I yak it up with Katie about swimming, being covered in hickies, loving the language, and how she found herself doing comedy on a Saturday night at The Tallyho! (Every bit as exotic as it sounds). Enjoy!

Ep.22 - Guest: TIM LONG May 15, 2023

Show notes

If you're interested in comedy writing, this episode is FOR YOU...because I sit down and chat with one of the best in the biz. Writer/Producer from Late Night with David Letterman and a wee show called The Simpsons, TIM LONG parks his mug at the mic and we have ourselves a helluva a good time. I expect you will too if you give this episode a listen.

Ep.21 - Guest: JACKIE PIRICO Apr 27, 2023

Show notes

I've recently become a big fan of my guest in this episode. JACKIE PIRICO is a hilarious Toronto-based comedian who has performed all across this country and beyond, and her comedy album "Splashpad" was nominated for a Juno Award and is fantastically funny and original. When I listened to it, I knew I'd be tracking her down to come on the podcast. And she graciously accepted, and we subsequently had a blast and a holotta laughs! I hope you enjoy.

Ep.20 - Guest: BEN MINER Apr 16, 2023

Show notes

A terrific and insightful chat with comedian and SiriusXM host/exec Ben Miner. We discuss many things... so, so many things... if I told you them here, it may perhaps dissuade you from listening to the entire episode which would be, frankly, the cruellest thing I could imagine doing to you. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed yakking.

Ep.19 - Guest: CHRIS FINN Mar 16, 2023

Show notes

Over my 35 years in comedy, few people in the business have made me laugh more than this episode's guest, my long-time pal Chris Finn. We met as stand-ups in the late 80s and Chris went on to become one of the most prolific and sought-after comedy writers (award-winning comedy writers, mind you!) in the country. But aside from his professional comedic successes, he and I consistently gut ourselves laughing whenever we get together. It happened again here.

Ep.18 - Guest: JAMES HARTNETT Jan 30, 2023

Show notes

What a lovely and pleasant chat we had! By "we" I mean "myself and my guest James Hartnett". I also believe in my bosom that you'll have a lovely and pleasant time listening to our chat about the various things we have in common: stand-up, writing, acting, being the youngest child of slightly older parents and whether or not we got physically pounded by our older siblings.

Ep.17 - Guest: LAURENCE BROWN Jan 09, 2023

Show notes

Laurence Brown uses the term "Youtube sensation" as a joke, but in his case it's the truth, dammit! And I'm a fan. I had a terrific chat with him about how his online adventure came to be, why he moved from England to America, and why he has never deigned to set foot in Canada.

Ep.16 - Guest: ALLANA HARKIN Dec 31, 2022

Show notes

Hot off seven seasons of FULL FRONTAL WITH SAMANTHA BEE, the funny and talented Allana Harkin visits with Brent on this episode of TheButtpod, to discuss early live comedy gigs, an all-female sketch comedy troupe in the 1990s (outrageous!!!), no love in Vancouver, her push into the hairy world of directing, and her history as a fist-fighting arsonist. Fun and funny chat!

Ep.15 -Guest: MEREDITH HAMBROCK Nov 08, 2022

Show notes

Brent welcomes screenwriter and novelist Meredith Hambrock to the Gameroom Studio (but, like...remotely...not in person) for this fun and funny chat. A swirling variety of topics are discussed, from the structure of a story to the secret underground tunnel that connects Scotland's Loch Ness to Canada's Lake Okanagan. Wait - are you telling me it's the same monster in both places? Hey... I ain't telling you nothing!
